Since the madness of our love/hate affair with Semantle is continuing, I thought I start a second thread. Why worry about the goings on in the world when you can pull your hair out over vocabulary?

To umderstand what I'm on about follow this link. It's a word game like Wordle in that you need to find the secret word of the day, but it works by semantics. So you input a word and it will tell you how close you are. You have infinite guesses.

For example, one of the secret words was 'costly' with expensive, cumbersome and burdensome being the three closest words.

Oh my days. I had SO many green words!! Chuffed that I got there without help or hints this time.

I solved Semantle #34 in 100 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 0.31. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #35. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 48.44 (995/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

I've been at this on and off since 7am! Still no higher than 679! Please send help...! 😲

Did it in 52 but was in the 900s on my third guess so found it a bit frustrating.

Much as I love and am hooked on this game, there are two things that I find extremely frustrating about it!

The first is that scramble for getting a word that is not absolutely freezing, let alone cold, whilst you enter any and every word that comes into your brain.

And the second is once you have guessed the word, and you see that others are struggling to get it, and you want to scream but it's easy, it's obvious!

Every day I say to myself that I am not going to waste any more time on it tomorrow. And every morning, there I am, putting in the random words....

I solved Semantle #34 in 198 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 3.50. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #106. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 19.43. semantle.novalis.org/

I solved Semantle #34 in 203 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 21.77. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #31. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 21.82. semantle.novalis.org/

I gave up ... ... I got to 496 & 624 early this morning, then leap to 957, 922, 834, 738... but... not progressed since, in spite of googling synonyms. i may need to hold my time in higher regard...

Got it in 180, finally!! Got stuck in the early 900s for aaaaaages

Finally got there! With a little help from my Nan today, who actually suggested the secret word after I got 3 words in the top 10. Thank you nan!

Many thanks for recommending this. Had a first try today on #35 and through beginner’s luck found word in 27. Will give it another go tomorrow.

#35- by an absolute fluke I guessed it in 6. Just trying random words to get started. It'll never happen again!!

I'm a bit stuck at 959, there's a definite theme but now I can't think of any other things that fit there.
