Semantle Chapter 2

Since the madness of our love/hate affair with Semantle is continuing, I thought I start a second thread. Why worry about the goings on in the world when you can pull your hair out over vocabulary?

To umderstand what I'm on about follow this link. It's a word game like Wordle in that you need to find the secret word of the day, but it works by semantics. So you input a word and it will tell you how close you are. You have infinite guesses.

For example, one of the secret words was 'costly' with expensive, cumbersome and burdensome being the three closest words.

I have 7 words in the 900s. Still can't work it out!

I’ve got 901 and 952, none of the related words are anywhere near and I’m out of synonyms! Clearly I’m missing something.

I don't have either of those but now have 11 words in the 900s. I feel like I have exhausted all synonyms and despite having 986 and two in the 970s I can't work it out.

I solved Semantle #38 in 210 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 13.22. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #44. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 17.00 semantle.novalis.org/

Now I have solved it I should have got it a lot sooner.

Still on 909 aaahh, haven't been doing it solidly but still!

Any clue for higher numbers would be appreciated!

I solved Semantle #38 in 106 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 3.62. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #46. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 8.91. semantle.novalis.org/

Also jumped in at 962 on my 11th guess. Got a few lower greens since then but not got higher yet!

I've got one low green and then not a sniff! Is 347 going to help me or should I keep doing more random guesses?

Grr, I’ve got 22 green words, the highest is 971, and I am still not getting it!

I got a green (216) on my first guess and was so excited! Nothing else green so far but I’ll keep trying!

I'm at 984 and have a load in the 900s but still not getting it. It'll be a day of many guesses.

898, 697 and 845, and loads of similes thereof. Run out of similes. Root words are cold. Hmm.

I'm really surprised that the root words are cold. Trying to see what that could mean, but it currently means nothing!

This gives me hope that it’s actually a real word. I honestly can’t think of any synonyms for 952 I haven’t tried. Blasted thing.

Ha yeah it's definitely not an obscure one.

I jumped straight in on 929 with my first guess but 10 synonym guesses after have all been cold... I’m a bit confused!
