Semantle Chapter 2

Since the madness of our love/hate affair with Semantle is continuing, I thought I start a second thread. Why worry about the goings on in the world when you can pull your hair out over vocabulary?

To umderstand what I'm on about follow this link. It's a word game like Wordle in that you need to find the secret word of the day, but it works by semantics. So you input a word and it will tell you how close you are. You have infinite guesses.

For example, one of the secret words was 'costly' with expensive, cumbersome and burdensome being the three closest words.

If you want to see how we've been getting on up to now, thread one is here.

Enjoy, and don't shoot the messenger when you get nothing else done all day!!!

I'm hideously stuck. I got 990 at about 7 this morning, and have loads of related words but am close to giving up.

Thanks but I’m still stuck, I don’t even know where the target comes into it. Nothing I’ve got so far implies a target of any kind.

Haudyourwheesht · 07/03/2022 19:49

Sorry @ErrolTheDragon - 980. That made no sense.

Haudyourwheesht · 07/03/2022 20:03

I solved Semantle #37 in 118 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 4.20. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #10. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 25.17 (643/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

@Haudyourwheesht your options are open

Hasselhoffsheadband · 07/03/2022 20:05

Got it in 132 - not bad for me! Grin

JaneJeffer · 07/03/2022 20:07

A bit late with my clue Grin

fancyfrogs · 07/03/2022 20:21

I solved Semantle #37 in 42 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 5.98. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #11. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 44.26 (996/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

A better one for me again today, think I got lucky with the general theme quite early!

BertieBotts · 07/03/2022 20:30

Omg 🤣 I can't believe I didn't get that sooner! FFS

BertieBotts · 07/03/2022 20:32

Definitely not American - in fact the way people are referring to it as American really confused me and slightly put me off! I wonder if you all have different green words to me though.

thepainteddesertcanwait · 07/03/2022 20:34

I solved Semantle #37 in 7 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 1.51. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #7. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 11.11. https://semantle.novalis.org/

I'm finding this game really irritating now (yet I'm still playing Blush). Some days like today I get the word almost straight away (seemingly pure fluke) so there's no actual game play to enjoy and yet other days I am going round and round in circles never getting any closer and eventually lose interest. The percentage "closeness" of words is often very dubious imo! Today's success follows two days where I have totally lost interest after 200+ guesses consistently cold with maybe one or two lucky greens that I can't develop no matter how hard
I try!

JaneJeffer · 07/03/2022 20:43

I agree @thepainteddesertcanwait I had three words which to my mind were very close but were very low scoring.

picklemewalnuts · 07/03/2022 20:53

Not an American word at all, Bertie. But some people had sets of words that together led to a more American understanding. Rather like bat coming after loads of baseball words.

And in contrast, I got to it via some very English weather terminology!
BertieBotts · 07/03/2022 20:56

Yes, I can see that looking at the list. I had a very different theme to that. Will share tomorrow :)

NaiceLeftie · 07/03/2022 21:17

I’ve got 41.5% similarity so far… this is really hard Confused Seems to be completely different to where it was heading this morning.

MadisonAvenue · 07/03/2022 21:38

Anyone fancy giving me a DM with a word over 977? Please?

BabbleBee · 07/03/2022 21:49

DD has just got it. Very, very different words to me. I had a different theme to her, she got it in less guesses.

BettyBootsie · 07/03/2022 21:57

BettyBootsie Thank you!

I solved Semantle #37 in 133 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 10.82. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #5. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 39.74 (990/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

BowerOfBramble · 08/03/2022 00:20

This one is already shaping up to be a pain. My highest word is 881 but all the greens I have are incredibly vague and I’m already over a hundred guesses in.

MadisonAvenue · 08/03/2022 00:43

I was in at 962 with my 6th guess, been cold ever since.

Wallawallakoala · 08/03/2022 00:47

I'm with you @BowerOfBramble I got 909 and not a single green after that!

BowerOfBramble · 08/03/2022 01:01

I haven’t got anything in the 900s yet! All seems very vague. Definitely my worst so far - please send me a clue to a higher word if you can!
