Semantle Chapter 2

Since the madness of our love/hate affair with Semantle is continuing, I thought I start a second thread. Why worry about the goings on in the world when you can pull your hair out over vocabulary?

To umderstand what I'm on about follow this link. It's a word game like Wordle in that you need to find the secret word of the day, but it works by semantics. So you input a word and it will tell you how close you are. You have infinite guesses.

For example, one of the secret words was 'costly' with expensive, cumbersome and burdensome being the three closest words.

If you want to see how we've been getting on up to now, thread one is here.

Enjoy, and don't shoot the messenger when you get nothing else done all day!!!

I solved Semantle #37 in 54 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 7.92. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #13. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 1.23. semantle.novalis.org/
I am very annoyed for reasons I can only explain after midnight!

darmar · 07/03/2022 17:25

I'm getting closer. Have managed to guess 987. Still no clue, this one is really frustrating me!!

picklemewalnuts · 07/03/2022 17:48

They are all relevant, but in quite a specific use of the word.

Hmm, let me think. It's about areas where people may be 226, 719, 767.

HeadacheGrey · 07/03/2022 17:51
@SlightlyJaded I see your
“ Worlde
Semantle
Worldle
Quordle”

And raise you
Wordle
Sweardle
Lewdle
Dordle
Quordle
Octordle
Squareword
Nerdle
Mathler
Worldle
Globle
And Semantle 🤣
Omg, I'll never get anything done 🤯

Ps I thought you were joking with Sweardle and Lewdle 😂🤣😂

JaneJeffer · 07/03/2022 17:55

There's also Heardle, Prayerdle and Wordlerry Grin and probably loads more

MrsElm · 07/03/2022 18:03

Absurdle is good, it changes the target word to make it as tricky as possible!

Bytrgrewd · 07/03/2022 18:32

Nooo don’t tell me anymore 🙉

Bytrgrewd · 07/03/2022 18:33

Yes I played Absurdle until I realised that if I used the same opening pair of words every time I could get it in 5 every turn with the same word as the answer 😆

madmumofteens · 07/03/2022 18:41

Thank you Squirrelnutkin1 this one had be well stumped and DH demented with me lol 😂

BertieBotts · 07/03/2022 18:42

Hogwartle too.

This is the only one I play now though.

I'm dying to know what it is with you all discussing so cryptically Grin I'm not too far off so I'm sure I'll get it.

I think the use of bat the other day relating more to sport than animals was more to do with it being sourced from the news rather than it being American as such. There is more news about sport than furry squeaky bats.

darmar · 07/03/2022 18:44

@picklemewalnuts

They are all relevant, but in quite a specific use of the word.

Hmm, let me think. It's about areas where people may be 226, 719, 767.

I solved Semantle #37 in 146 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 7.59. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #21. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 23.53 (468/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

Finally!! Highest amount of guesses yet.

MzHz · 07/03/2022 18:52

I solved Semantle #37 in 18 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 3.56. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #4. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 15.71. semantle.novalis.org/

Complete fluke.. but given where I live, not entirely unexpected

All my words have a very specific theme. Can someone tell me if I’m right to pursue it? (...and maybe give me a hint? 😂)

BabbleBee · 07/03/2022 19:20

Grrrrr stuck on 990!!!

MadisonAvenue · 07/03/2022 19:23

Ok, I’m going to have to ask for a hint please. I’ve been on 977 since first thing this morning and I’ve got a gap between that and the previous green answers but can’t seem to find a theme, every direction I try is cold.

picklemewalnuts · 07/03/2022 19:25

Madison, 977 could be the perimeter of the target.

picklemewalnuts · 07/03/2022 19:25

Babble, 990 could be the alternative to the target.

picklemewalnuts · 07/03/2022 19:26

Smol, where the things you've found happen.

BabbleBee · 07/03/2022 19:28

@picklemewalnuts

Babble, 990 could be the alternative to the target.
I’ve moved to 994 without the hint and I’m so confused Grin
SmolCat · 07/03/2022 19:29

Thank you @picklemewalnuts!

BabbleBee · 07/03/2022 19:30

Got it. Actually not just American if you also partake!

I solved Semantle #37 in 47 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 12.42. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #3. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 24.63 (595/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

picklemewalnuts · 07/03/2022 19:33

Babble, there's an activity called '990 & target'. I think it's a fairly American phrase, I vaguely remember it from Grease Grin.

picklemewalnuts · 07/03/2022 19:33

Well done, Babble!

WildImaginings · 07/03/2022 19:40

Good god... I've got it in 41!
