Semantle Chapter 2

Since the madness of our love/hate affair with Semantle is continuing, I thought I start a second thread. Why worry about the goings on in the world when you can pull your hair out over vocabulary?

To umderstand what I'm on about follow this link. It's a word game like Wordle in that you need to find the secret word of the day, but it works by semantics. So you input a word and it will tell you how close you are. You have infinite guesses.

For example, one of the secret words was 'costly' with expensive, cumbersome and burdensome being the three closest words.

I'm thinking about some categories of ppl whose communications likely don't inform Google News, so that could explain the large number of words I think should be close to today's answer but are not.

Yes... if their source was e.g. Radio 4, quite a lot of their close words would be absent and there would be more relating to the other (main, imo) meaning.

But for todays, a lot of the green words are ones we probably wouldn't ever use (927? Wtf?) but there are plenty with the same type of relationship which are familiar. So the former don't really matter.

I have no idea how this happened! Although got 446 on guess number 5 then flailed around for ages.

I solved Semantle #37 in 64 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 7.68. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #5. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 11.17. semantle.novalis.org/

Got to 990/1000 about three days ago, but going nowhere now.. am currently typing anything I can see out of my window..

Quite pleased with today. I got Wordle in two as well. Quordle will be in my lunch break...

I solved Semantle #37 in 48 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 7.91. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #14. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 39.74 (990/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

I didn't like the similar words today, I would have thought of completely different related words to the top 100.

A lot of words that relate to today's answer (& previous ones, eg vampire, ears, mammal, etc, for the answer bat), were either cold or really low down on the list for me and I think that's due to it being American and so focuses on their (most common) uses of the correct word.
