Semantle Chapter 2

Since the madness of our love/hate affair with Semantle is continuing, I thought I start a second thread. Why worry about the goings on in the world when you can pull your hair out over vocabulary?

To umderstand what I'm on about follow this link. It's a word game like Wordle in that you need to find the secret word of the day, but it works by semantics. So you input a word and it will tell you how close you are. You have infinite guesses.

For example, one of the secret words was 'costly' with expensive, cumbersome and burdensome being the three closest words.

I did have ax and wood on there too 😆 I haven’t got anywhere yet today either

I solved Semantle #36 in 92 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 1.33. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #31. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 58.95 (997/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

Loved todays one! First time I have got it without help from my son (we have both been doing it and sharing words). He is 150 words in without a green and doesn't want any help today - so far!

I was really annoyed at yesterday. It seemed very American/sports influenced when you look at the list. So many of the words appeared to be obscure unless you know about baseball. If you say bat to me I think the creature!

Today it’s taken me to guess 60 to find anything green, now I have word 472 to work from.

I think this game might be more fun if they randomly assigned you a starting word in the 0-99/1000 range and took the initial frustration of random guesses out of it.

I feel like there's a definite theme in my non green guesses but I just can't get a green!
I've got 18.47 so nearly at 19.07.
This is going to be my worst score yet!

I have a load of 800s but getting nowhere, on over 300 guesses now 😳

Is everyone essentially random until they get a green? Is there any point at all looking at the top cold words?

I reckon some university or government department somewhere is analysing all these guesses to train an AI!

Oh good, a new day. So now I can openly moan about how ‘sport’ wasn’t a green word yesterday!

Is everyone essentially random until they get a green? Is there any point at all looking at the top cold words?

If I get a cold that is approaching the threshold for a green, then I sometimes try to find similar words. Doesn’t always work though!

I’m beginning to think hitting green is just down to luck (and I try to spread my guesses across subject areas. Not sure if they helps either though, truth be told).
