Since the madness of our love/hate affair with Semantle is continuing, I thought I start a second thread. Why worry about the goings on in the world when you can pull your hair out over vocabulary?

To umderstand what I'm on about follow this link. It's a word game like Wordle in that you need to find the secret word of the day, but it works by semantics. So you input a word and it will tell you how close you are. You have infinite guesses.

For example, one of the secret words was 'costly' with expensive, cumbersome and burdensome being the three closest words.

Help! I got to 958 over 100 guesses ago and I'm stuck.

I just tried one of the archived games using the pimantle link from the Reddit upthread - because it plots the points you can get a better idea of relationships between the guesses.

Yes, that one would have stumped me for sure.

Last minute fluke putting words in from the TV! I solved Semantle #35 in 41 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 13.18. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #37. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 23.57. semantle.novalis.org/

I solved Semantle #35 in 76 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 14.30. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #30. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 48.38 (986/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

Thank god for this thread, I started so late today and was about to give up when inspiration struck thanks to the clue up thread! The list of nearest words is mind blowing, though. Why on earth are there not more relating to its other meaning?!!

And randomly got it. I love/hate this game.

I hate this game. If I had translated one of my guesses into Irish I could have got it. That might be a clue for any Irish players!

Think of the literal meaning of that word and work out from there

Yes, todays related words had a definite bias due to the source I think.
Though why it had 477 (and types thereof) and even 62 but not the analagous term applicable to one of the meanings of the target word is surprising.

Thanks for your help. I focused on that word and was able to get it. Rather than 958, which makes sense now, but I would never had been able to move forward from there.

How is it possible to get word 995 on guess 45 and then not to get any further?!

I've now got words 990, 994, 995, 996, 997 and still can't get it. I don't know what's wrong with me! Apart from its 4am 🙈🙈

I struggled but when I got to green it finally made sense!

I got it in 7 by complete fluke and I'm quite disappointed

I solved Semantle #36 in 7 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of -12.47. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #4. My penultimate guess had a similarity of -2.52. semantle.novalis.org/

I got green on my first word, reached 955 with my 89th word and can’t get any further forward.

I gave up yesterday after well over 200 guess and then when I saw the answer I thought it was one that I had put in, but I had chosen the word with -on at the end instead. Quietly furious with that!

I'll be going in shortly.

Yesterday’s confused me for a bit as I had animal words (duck, toad, frog) and weapon words (machete!).
Luckily I randomly guessed ball and got there.
