Semantle Chapter 2

Since the madness of our love/hate affair with Semantle is continuing, I thought I start a second thread. Why worry about the goings on in the world when you can pull your hair out over vocabulary?

To umderstand what I'm on about follow this link. It's a word game like Wordle in that you need to find the secret word of the day, but it works by semantics. So you input a word and it will tell you how close you are. You have infinite guesses.

For example, one of the secret words was 'costly' with expensive, cumbersome and burdensome being the three closest words.

If you want to see how we've been getting on up to now, thread one is here.

Enjoy, and don't shoot the messenger when you get nothing else done all day!!!

@Drawerofcrap

I'm stumped today. Please can someone give me a clue in the 900s that is actually helpful, lol, as I'm confused by my ones and have run out of words to try.
One of the words you’ve used here is an actual clue Grin
Drawerofcrap · 05/03/2022 18:03

🤣🤣🤣🤣 so it was!!

I solved Semantle #35 in 168 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 8.55. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #15.

SmolCat · 05/03/2022 18:04

I solved Semantle #35 in 63 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 12.65. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #48. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 37.43 (864/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

Not gonna lie, @Drawerofcrap and @LovedayCL’s
interaction helped a lot!

Ricardothesnowman · 05/03/2022 18:12

I think today's is a very hard one. Most the green words I got have no connection to the secret word at all, and looking at the list, I don't know most of the words from 1 to 400, and of those I do know, none of them have any connections to the secret word at all. I only got it by chance as ds was typing in random rhyming words.

DrHildegardeLanstrom · 05/03/2022 18:20

Well. That was an anticlimax

I solved Semantle #35 in 76 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 15.85. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #27. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 20.33. semantle.novalis.org/

BertieBotts · 05/03/2022 18:38

Oh!! Thank you all. Got it thanks to cross referencing clues and numbers. Wow that is a confusingly simple word!

BertieBotts · 05/03/2022 18:39

This was driving me mad and I can't wait to discuss the journey I went on tomorrow :o

fancyfrogs · 05/03/2022 18:39

Oh thanks @InMySpareTime! Smile

BertieBotts · 05/03/2022 18:42

This was an interesting read BTW - it's spoiler free as long as you don't click on the black boxes.

BertieBotts · 05/03/2022 18:43

Oh actually - having just revealed them, they relate to a previous day's puzzle anyway, so completely safe to click today.

NashvilleQueen · 05/03/2022 19:01

127! Ridiculous. I solved Semantle #35 in 127 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 24.04. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #43. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 48.38 (986/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

That is interesting. It is weird though the scoring, when the answer was LIVER the other day my first green hit was "kitchen", then one for "knife", "fridge" and "enamel", so I obviously went down the wrong track and those answers don't seem to relate (enamel possibly for a body part).

Alwaystired99 · 05/03/2022 19:17

@InMySpareTime thanks, that definitely helped. I'm now at 988 and even more confused. I've tried every variation I can think of so should probably walk away from it for a bit.

meow1989 · 05/03/2022 19:26

I solved Semantle #35 in 109 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 16.28. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #3. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 37.43 (864/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

I'm quite a high number player 🤣

988 is several yards away from the answer but heading towards it fast.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/03/2022 19:39

That Reddit link is interesting. I'd not realised the source, it helps explain some of the emphases in the ranking I think.

And there's an archive link which has a different interface, it plots the guesses.

CharacterForming · 05/03/2022 19:46

That was weird. Got to my twenty fourth guess, started typing a random word based on what I was watching on telly, got half way through and realised that actually that made a word which might be a better fit to my closest guess to date and stopped there only to find it was right. Bit of an "is that it?" moment.

CharacterForming · 05/03/2022 19:48

I solved Semantle #35 in 24 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of -3.26. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #24. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 13.59.

BettyBootsie · 05/03/2022 19:52

Yay! Seeing what the answer is, I'm a bit baffled how some of my earlier guesses - one in particular - were so cold 🤷🏼‍♀️

I solved Semantle #35 in 173 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 8.98. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #88. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 42.59 (948/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

HoundOfTheBasketballs · 05/03/2022 20:15

I solved Semantle #35 in 217 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 6.66. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #47. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 55.80 (997/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

I unintentionally got a clue off this thread though, so I feel like I cheated a bit. I'm not sure how long it would have taken me without it.

BertieBotts · 05/03/2022 20:24

Ronnie those items seemed food prep themed to me, and liver is also a food as well as a human body part.

On that day I think I got protein as my first green word and that sent me down a nutrition sort of line for a while until I tried stomach and that got me into body parts.

pandora206 · 05/03/2022 20:29

Gosh, much simpler word than I thought but got there in the end (127 tries though). I was at 707/1000 on my eight try but got stuck shortly after.

RonniePickering · 05/03/2022 20:30

Doh! Of course Bertie, didn't even think of the liver relating to food Blush

TheChosenTwo · 05/03/2022 21:55

I solved Semantle #35 in 22 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 2.31. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #4. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 18.20. semantle.novalis.org/

22! Was so pleased with myself and then saw people smashing it in 5 Grin

Alwaystired99 · 05/03/2022 22:08

@InMySpareTime 176 attempts but I'd never have managed it without your help! Hopefully I won't find it quite so hard tomorrow.
