Do you know what your neighbours cars look like?!

Just a random conversation with dh and he asked me if their cars were still there. I honestly have no idea what cars they are, I know one of them is white Confused but couldn’t tell you what make it was. And I don’t even know the colour of the other car.
Sometimes they park on their drive, other times they park on the street. I clearly don’t pay attention!!
Just got me wondering if everyone knows what cars their neighbours drive.

Yes but only because it can be a bit 'parking wars' so everyone knows a strange car, I know the ones from the houses within 2 of mine each side and opposite. If parking was more plentiful I probably wouldn't pay attention

VariationsonaTheme · 27/02/2022 12:47

Yes. It’s hard not to notice when you step outside the door, unless you keep your head down.

Seeline · 27/02/2022 12:49

Definitely know for all 4 or 5 properties either side and opposite (don't really know the neighbours other than by sight though!).

The only time I wasn't sure was with our old immediate NDNs who had 3 adult sons living with them for a time each with a car as well as several vans between them, that seemed to change on an almost monthly basis!

GTAlogic · 27/02/2022 12:52

No. I wouldn't know my neighbours' cars at all apart from the big orange one. I often don't recognise my siblings' and mum's cars either. It's just not something I ever really focus on.

GordenBennett · 27/02/2022 12:53

Nope but then I tried to open someone else's car as I thought it was mine, just because it was the same colour

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 27/02/2022 12:54

Yes I know them all and I know which ones park on the visibility splays when they shouldn’t.

ClariceQuiff · 27/02/2022 12:54

The one next door is grey and I know it's an EV because I noticed them having a charging point fitted but other than that, I have no idea - I'm not at all interested in cars.

canyon2000 · 27/02/2022 12:56

Yes I know all my neighbours cars.

thenightsky · 27/02/2022 12:57

Yes. Every single one in my close of 9 houses.

SarahAndQuack · 27/02/2022 12:58

Yes, but I live in the sort of village where people honk at you to be friendly (which I am a curmudgeon about as it never fails to startle me and make me assume I've done something wrong).

ShinySquirrel · 27/02/2022 12:59

Yes, but only because one neighbour has a massive flatbed truck and the other has a Tesla and strings the charging wire along the pavement. Otherwise I'd be oblivious.

GoogleWhacked · 27/02/2022 12:59

Yes, would know most cars on our street - probably 15+ houses.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 27/02/2022 13:01

Yes.

How2Help · 27/02/2022 13:04

Not a clue, but DH does.
In fact I’m so oblivious about cars that if DH picks me up he has to text me his registration in advance so I can check I’m getting in the right car. Like Uber but without having to leave a review afterwards.

NotAScoobyToBeSeen · 27/02/2022 13:04

Yes but I tend to notice this type of thing and remember it without putting any effort into it. I dont remember or pay attention to the cars of people Ive only met a handful of times though, or passing people on the street where as my ds does and always seems amused that I havent noticed. So I think we all have our own things that we notice easily, its no big deal really

FreyaMaya · 27/02/2022 13:06

Only my next door neighbour's. Not anyone else's in the street

BocolateChiscuits · 27/02/2022 13:15

Just two of the most distinctive ones (very new white range rover, and an old VW camper van painted an unusual colour). Mostly I'm pretty "car blind".

DH notices cars more. But he's "plant blind"- he struggles to identify, say rosemary, even if he had cut one back the week before or cooked with it recently.

Gingerkittykat · 27/02/2022 13:15

Yes, my next door neighbour has a grey Audi. I know because we have a mini parking war going on where she likes to park hanging into my space and when she does that I park about 3cm behind her. When I park like that she stops for a while and then it starts again. It's all very petty but I take great delight in parking like that when she annoys me and deliberately leave loads of space when she parks properly.

I know what another neighbour two doors away drives because I have seen him get it into it so often and I know a neighbour behind me has the same make, model and colour but has a huge bash in the side they have never got fixed.

The guy on the opposite side of the culdesac has a freaking speedboat on the road in it's trailer. It's been there for at least two years, I have seen him fiddle with it and clean it but it has never left the street so I have no idea why he has it and it annoys me.

deadlanguage · 27/02/2022 13:25

There are a couple of cars on the street I recognise due to stickers they have but I have no idea which houses they belong to. We have on street permit parking and also get people parking here for nearby shops so there’s not really any way to know. Sometimes we have to park halfway up the street instead of by our house. To be honest I don’t even know the names of our next door neighbours on one side or how many people live there!

MyBottleOfRibena · 27/02/2022 13:26

You wouldn’t recognise your own husband in his car?!

I know all of my neighbours car (and some of their visitors too) and I’m not overly interested in cars

MrsEricBana · 27/02/2022 13:28

Yes

singlepringlenotbychoice · 27/02/2022 13:30

I know my direct next door neighbour and their neighbour. I know the colours of 4 other neighbours but not makes and models. Husband on the other hand knows every single car. He couldn't tell you their names though.

jytdtysrht · 27/02/2022 13:31

Yes, their cars are right outside and I see them everyday!

whiteonesugar · 27/02/2022 13:33

Yes, but only because we live on a small close with only 6 houses so you get used to seeing them.

Magpiecomplex · 27/02/2022 13:35

Yes, and cars of friends and colleagues too. I often recognise the car before I recognise the driver!
