What would Corbyn do?

I am just musing what life would have been like if Corbyn had got into power. Didn't he want to scrap all nuclear weapons? And massively reduce spending on national defence? Would he have helped Ukraine or sanctioned Russia?

It would be even more scary right now if we didn't have nuclear weapons as a deterrent.

Well listen to what he said in parliament before Russia invaded.

Then I'm sure him And his cronies would be dancing around waving their little red books screeching " down with the government, down with the government!".
Then the speaker intervenes " you ARE the government".

Doesn't really matter as he isn't in power and has pretty much zero influence over policy these days.

I’m so sick of all this what would Corbin/Starmer or anyone else do. We don’t know, they’re not in power and Corbin hasnt been the Leander if the Labour Party for a while now.

It’s Johnson and his shitshow we’re having to deal with, you should be more worried about that than some hypothetical scenario

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 27/02/2022 08:37

He's not in power.

He'll never be in power.

It's ancient history now and pointless speculating.

Hah! Quite scary!

In rl the only people I’ve heard discuss how JC would handle things are those feeling defensive about how dear BJ is handling things.

BJ running a corrupt, incompetent government? Oh well thank god it’s not Corbyn - can you imagine!

I have no idea what JC would have done.
I can look back at the past few years and see what the government has been doing, and wonder if anyone but BJ (and I mean anyone) would have done better.

I didn’t vote for Labour at the time, but right now trying to deflect the poor handling of, we’ll, pretty much anything by our current government, is getting tedious.

MerryPoppings · 27/02/2022 08:43

Wow, a lot of defensiveness here! Thankfully we don't have thought police (yet) so no one can tell me what to spend my time thinking about. I'm also able to hold more than one thought so can think that Boris is an incompetent idiot at the same time as pondering what life would be like if Corbyn had got into power.

OP posts:
OutsideVoice · 27/02/2022 08:48

Defensiveness? Not intentional.

Reacting to a pointless, tedious argument that’s brought up every time the government shows us how shit they are, at a time when a country is getting its arse blown out by man who thinks he has a right to do so? Maybe.

Tigersonvaseline · 27/02/2022 08:52
  • because some of us, have not forgotten the sheer fear that at one time he was the leader of the labour party. Backed by vicious thugs!
Tigersonvaseline · 27/02/2022 08:57

Op some poster's are like cult victims they are brain washed and don't have the ability too see things in a balanced way.
They can't understand that most people are somewhere in the middle when it comes to politics.
Some poster's used to boast proudly, how tribal their parents were true reds etc and the most devestating thing would be for them to marry a ," Tory". Everything is simple and black and white in their lives.

Createdjustforthis · 27/02/2022 08:59

We’re supposed to not proliferate the nuclear weapons remember? Ffs it’s like you want there to be nuclear war.

That's some extrapolation Grin

Exactly the above.

Some people must live in a binary universe where they worship at the altar of either Boris or Corbyn. Thank god most people have the capacity to think in a more nuanced way.

TyrannosaurusRegina · 27/02/2022 09:14

Corbyn isn't in power

Hm.. Well luckily some people actually have brains and imaginations and are able to sit and wonder about things.

Ooo, well enjoy your wonderings then. I'm sure it's a useful intellectual exercise.

WhatAWasteOfOranges · 27/02/2022 09:22

At least Corbyn would have acted with principles and almost certainly wouldn’t have closed the border to refugees

Tootyfilou · 27/02/2022 09:29

You talk about being brainwashed, you all appear to have swallowed the MSM version of Corbyn hook line and sinker. He twice won the international Gandhi peace prize. He would not have got rid of Trident as that is not Labour Party policy. He would have tried to negotiate, and would not have taken sides ( you do know he is not a Communist right? and Russia is not a Communist country ). As for the anti semitism bollocks that was a massive smear by the Right in the Labour Party and the establishment.

EnjoyingTheSilence · 27/02/2022 09:39

It’s. It about being a Corbin fan (I’m not) I’m just sick of the what about if....

It doesn’t matter

We need to concentrate on what is happening right now, not saying or implying it would be worse if...

We don’t know if it would have been worse or better, we know it’s bad now and that’s what we have to deal with.

I also wish people would stop saying things would be better if Corbyn were in charge. We don’t know that, he isn’t and never will be. We have to deal with what we have.

Jansobieski · 27/02/2022 10:42

Corbyn will probably get deselected by the LP because of his refusal pigheadedness to remove his signature from that ill advised protest letter. What he would or wouldn't have done is irrelevant. He's gone and good riddance. Bit of an odd question though. What would Tony Blair or John Major or Wilson or Thatcher have done..it's all pointless and academic and probably intended to improve the atrocious popularity ratings of the Dear Leader.

caranations · 27/02/2022 10:46

What would he do?

Grovel sycopantically at the feet of Putin. Probably.

SeaWitchly · 27/02/2022 10:48

This

Postdatedpandemic · 27/02/2022 10:52

He always made the point that there had to be a dialogue and a peace process.

What's the alternative? Nuke Moscow into oblivion?
At some point there will be dialogue.

Veryverycalmnow · 27/02/2022 10:54

Nuclear weapons and defence would have continued under the labour policies at the time. Corbyn was however standing against Russian money funding the Tory party.

Why on earth you'd want to start a Corbyn- bashing thread at a time like this baffles me, but carry on if it helps you to justify something.
