What would Corbyn do?

I am just musing what life would have been like if Corbyn had got into power. Didn't he want to scrap all nuclear weapons? And massively reduce spending on national defence? Would he have helped Ukraine or sanctioned Russia?

It would be even more scary right now if we didn't have nuclear weapons as a deterrent.

@OutsideVoice

In rl the only people I’ve heard discuss how JC would handle things are those feeling defensive about how dear BJ is handling things.

BJ running a corrupt, incompetent government? Oh well thank god it’s not Corbyn - can you imagine!

I have no idea what JC would have done.
I can look back at the past few years and see what the government has been doing, and wonder if anyone but BJ (and I mean anyone) would have done better.

I didn’t vote for Labour at the time, but right now trying to deflect the poor handling of, we’ll, pretty much anything by our current government, is getting tedious.

@Suzi888 - completely agree. I voted Labour (with some misgivings) because I live in a bellweather and only Lab/Tory would get in. I also dislike my Corbynite MP who is a clown. But I knew enough about Johnson to know he shouldn't be trusted with high office. I do know that had Corbyn f**d up to a fraction of the extent that Johnson has, I would have been embarrassed. I see little of that.

Is that you, Boris?

@PaulGallico

The tedious thing about this thread is the number of posters who feel it necessary to sound 'politically informed' at the expense of the OP.
Someone has ot do it as the OP hasn’t an idea in their noddle.

I actually think about the same. BJ does what he does not because he’s so clever and original but because it’s the only obvious way of dealing with Putin.
I agree that JC probably would be quicker in dealing with Russian oligarchs and more committed to refugees but we can’t be sure 100% as I imagine being in government differs from being in opposition.

At least Corbyn would have acted with principles and almost certainly wouldn’t have closed the border to refugees

I completely agree with this.
I find it so upsetting that people are still attacking Jeremy Corbyn. I can't bear the way he was treated, and still is being treated. The allegations levelled against him were cruel, when he's literally one of the least racist people in the world, and has spent his life fighting racism.
But people fell for media lies, and sadly I don't think enough British people have good critical thinking skills...

Article from the Jewish Chronicle imagining just this scenario: www.thejc.com/lets-talk/all/pm-corbyn-invites-russian-troops-to-britain-1SDI29qCGKXgsbeHXNQgrr

The Jewish Chronicle is an extremely right wing rag. I would take most of its content with a very large pinch of salt.

  • because some of us, have not forgotten the sheer fear that at one time he was the leader of the labour party. Backed by vicious thugs!

Well as someone on a low income, and renting from a terrible landlord, I've found all these years of Tory rule pretty terrifying.
JC gave me hope. He is a polar opposite of a thug btw - a gentle, jam-making, allotment tending good guy

I that you Boris?

Oh look, a windmill!!

Basketet · 26/05/2022 06:26

I don't give a rat's arse how Corbyn would have dealt with it. It's Boris dealing with it and he's a knobhead.

*Grovel sycopantically at the feet of Putin.
Seriously? Are you still at school?

ATadConfused · 26/05/2022 07:39

Thankfully we haven't needed to find out. We know it would not have been anything good.

Shade17 · 26/05/2022 07:59

Thankfully we’ll never have to find out. Just got to keep them out at the next GE.

No, we don't know that whatsoever!
We do know that the current government has been a disaster

🙄I genuinely don't understand how anyone would be happy with another 5 years of Tory rule. Bewildering. I'm praying the next GE will bring an end to this extreme right-wing government🙏

balalake · 26/05/2022 18:40

One thing I am certain would have happened under a government led by Jeremy Corbyn is that 20,000 or so fewer people would have died from Covid 19. Restrictions would have come in earlier, albeit from trade union pressure.

BiggerBoat1 · 26/05/2022 18:45

I assume this is an attempt at misdirection.

We have the worst, most corrupt Prime Minister we have ever had but maybe there is some kind of mythical scenario in which it could have been worse.

Corbyn is not in power and never will be so how about we address the shit show that is actually happening now rather than musing on what could have been?
