What would Corbyn do?

I am just musing what life would have been like if Corbyn had got into power. Didn't he want to scrap all nuclear weapons? And massively reduce spending on national defence? Would he have helped Ukraine or sanctioned Russia?

It would be even more scary right now if we didn't have nuclear weapons as a deterrent.

@Tootyfilou

You talk about being brainwashed, you all appear to have swallowed the MSM version of Corbyn hook line and sinker. He twice won the international Gandhi peace prize. He would not have got rid of Trident as that is not Labour Party policy. He would have tried to negotiate, and would not have taken sides ( you do know he is not a Communist right? and Russia is not a Communist country ). As for the anti semitism bollocks that was a massive smear by the Right in the Labour Party and the establishment.
I agree totally.
MajorCarolDanvers · 27/02/2022 10:59

What would Corbyn have done is the reason why I voted Tory at the election.

Jansobieski · 27/02/2022 11:03

That's nothing to be proud of. BJ and JC are both idiots.

Thank fuck he isn’t in any sort of power anymore.

Labour have got a long, long wait for power to return to them again. Vol au vents during covid isn’t going to get the Tories out.
Aishah231 · 27/02/2022 11:11

The Corbyn bashing is in preparation for an attack on anyone remotely suggesting that this war is complex and perhaps NATO and EU expansionism may have played a role in it. Stop the war coalition will be the new enemy rather than anti-vaccers and anyone toing the party line will get to feel smug and virtuous. In twenty years time the truth will slowly emerge and those jingoistic tub thumpers of today will preach that we all need to 'move on'. Just like Iraq, just like Afghanistan.

@EnjoyingTheSilence

I’m so sick of all this what would Corbin/Starmer or anyone else do. We don’t know, they’re not in power and Corbin hasnt been the Leander if the Labour Party for a while now.

It’s Johnson and his shitshow we’re having to deal with, you should be more worried about that than some hypothetical scenario

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Well put.

I don't get all this "what would Corbyn have done". Obviously it's irrelevant because not enough people wanted to find out.

We have another problem to deal with in Boris who likely got in purely because he wasn't Corbyn Wink being not the worst doesn't make you the best.

And Boris still can't help himself with his political posturing and blusters of being the first and best and biggest package etc.

This isn't about the UK being the best to support Ukraine. We bloody well should be because if all the Russian interference in our politics.

So remember one thing - we cannot know what would have happened had Corbyn got in. But we do know the Russian interference wouldn't have happened - the money wouldn't be intertwining them in our politics - therefore we have to ask ourselves if all the current war would have happened at all, the same or differently.

sodastreamer · 27/02/2022 12:13
  • we cannot know what would have happened had Corbyn got in. But we do know the Russian interference wouldn't have happened

Oh give me strength

Grantanow · 27/02/2022 12:20

It doesn't matter because he's a has-been. Our problem is Johnson who is clearly not up to the job but the Tories fear to lose him because they don't want to lose their jobs at the next Election. Ukraine has given him a golden opportunity to prance about on the big stage. We must not forget his incompetence over the pandemic, partygate and Brexit.

itsgettingweird · 27/02/2022 12:24

@sodastreamer

* we cannot know what would have happened had Corbyn got in. But we do know the Russian interference wouldn't have happened * Oh give me strength
Why do you need strength?

Johnson has allowed Russian money to be involved and influence our politics. That's a fact.

He's taken 1.8m in the past years.

Labour are not involved that way and therefore wouldn't have had that involvement.

We simply so not know if and how that would of change the current situation. But we do know the ties would have been different.

lljkk · 27/02/2022 12:36

I'm only interested in what line of logic anyone could use to say that May, Major, Brown, Blair -- would have done anything that truly changed outcomes for Ukraine crisis happening as it is now.

Suppose they all had Johnson's stonking majority to work with.
Would Hague, Howard, Duncan Smith, Kinnock -- any of them have done something effective enough to prevent or shorten this crisis?

Even Thatcher... I don't think so.
Over-estimating Britain's power in any case, all cases.

i can imagine that Corbyn could have made it worse (sooner, longer) -- his reluctance to battle would be seen as pure weakness by Putin.

Hoppinggreen · 27/02/2022 12:41

Who knows?
I am not a fan of the “Johnson might be shit but Corbyn would be worse” school of thinking but I do remember listening to an interview with Corbyn on the radio just after Salisbury. He was criticising the govts reaction to it and was asked what he would do if he was PM.
He ummed and ahhhd a bit then said he would speak direct to Putin and challenge him on his gay rights record.
Obviously I do advocate gay rights in any country and Russia has a bad track record in that area but seriously????

Jansobieski · 27/02/2022 12:45

@NobodysGonnaKnow Johnson's popularity is atrocious. Vol au vents might not get them out but corruption will eventually, as will a rise in living costs, Brexit etc.

TooBigForMyBoots · 27/02/2022 12:59

You should get this moved to Creative Writing @MerryPoppings.

God yes! Thank god we’ve got Boris….oh wait…..
ForkedIt · 27/02/2022 13:22

He wouldn’t have blocked Ukrainian visas.

Libraryghost · 27/02/2022 13:24

He would be doing exactly the same as BJ because we are bound by the rules of NATO.

Postdatedpandemic · 27/02/2022 13:26

Have you lot read the Russia Report?

Dazedandconfused28 · 27/02/2022 13:45

@OutsideVoice

Defensiveness? Not intentional.

Reacting to a pointless, tedious argument that’s brought up every time the government shows us how shit they are, at a time when a country is getting its arse blown out by man who thinks he has a right to do so? Maybe.

PaulGallico · 27/02/2022 15:18

The tedious thing about this thread is the number of posters who feel it necessary to sound 'politically informed' at the expense of the OP.

amicissimma · 27/02/2022 15:40

If you think this is a 'pointless, tedious argument', why bother to engage, or even click on the thread at all?

Some people are interested in thinking about and discussing these things, which might inform debate in future with different party leaders. If you are not, fine, but why object to others doing so?

luckylavender · 27/02/2022 15:49

Who cares what Corbyn would do? Thankfully we'll never have to find out.

caringcarer · 27/02/2022 16:22

Thankfully we won't ever have to find out. He was so far left he was almost off the scale.

luckylavender · 02/03/2022 18:44

@caringcarer - actually there are far more left wing politicians than Corbyn and I don't object to that as much as I object to him personally. Passive aggressive, messiah complex who has never moved on from student politics. And his outrage when a Labour MP dared to disagree with him. I think he holds the parliamentary record for most voting against his Party whip. Weasel of a man.

Hen2018 · 02/03/2022 19:58

I don’t know.

I can’t imagine having a decent, honest leader with principles.

I haven’t got over the “sponsor a refugee” idea yet.
