Honking slippers

Escargooooooo · 18/02/2022 15:35

Partially my fault, but I need to know what to do about my slippers.

I have Emu Mayberrys, which are sheepskin, crossover jobs, lovely and fluffy for the first month, a little less so and worn looking by the second. By the third, I've worn the fleece on the upper sole right through and they stink!

I know this is partially my fault because I don't dry my feet enough when I get out of the bath, so they have a bit of dampness every day, but my word, they honk of cheddar.

I'm pretty sure they can't go through the washing machine. Although sheepskin can obviously cope with being wet. And I can't keep shelling out £50 on slippers every 3 months. Even if it wasn't because they honk, they are worn too. I'm a SAHM and they are on my feet from 7am to 9pm.

What slippers do you have that are brilliant and either cheaper so replacement isn't a problem, or machine washable....

Can you get some decent quality actual flip flops or sliders rather than slippers?
They're made of different material so will be washable.

ThatsNotMyGolem · 18/02/2022 16:35

Are you hoping for women to tell you stories of smelly slippers, OP?

SartresSoul · 18/02/2022 16:56

I have wool slippers so can’t be washed, I wear socks with them to prevent this.

Would you be bette routing some comfy shoes/lightweight trainers and only wearing them inside? Then you would have foot support and can wear socks to avoid the smell?

Escargooooooo · 18/02/2022 17:04

What is wrong with you?!

I want recommendations of slippers in case the repeated asking for recommendations isn't clear enough?

Either washable, or cheap but robust, open slippers.

I see a lot of people are in the "just wear socks with them" camp. But as well as not liking this, you can't in the summer anyway.

I wear fitflop sliders around the house - very comfortable but with a proper sole and made from neoprene so washable.

QuizzicalEyebrows · 18/02/2022 17:12

My Birkenstocks honked badly because I'd worn them after applying moisturiser to my feet and it ruined the sole.

TeeBee · 18/02/2022 17:22

Sell them to the perverts on eBay and buy yourself a new pair with the profits.

wineymummy · 18/02/2022 17:23

Aldi sheepskin slippers. About £15 a pair I think.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 18/02/2022 17:24

I think you might struggle to find washable fluffy ones.

I wear different slippers in winter and summer, winter moccasins with socks, summer mules without.

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 18/02/2022 17:36

@Escargooooooo it seems some MNetters in the past have washed their sheepskin slippers in the washing machine on a wool cycle, including Emu ones.

Worth a try if you love them so much.

FindingMeno · 18/02/2022 17:45

There's some brilliant powder you can buy and it really works.
Hang on, I'll have a look.

I recommend Haflinger wool clogs. You can wear socks as they're not as warm as sheepskin.

It's called "Shoe powder ( sport)".
Can't do a link but you can get it on Amazon.

FindingMeno · 18/02/2022 17:49

Sorry - Shoe RESCUE

PagesOfSlime · 18/02/2022 17:49

Wash them and see what happens, they're no use anyway. And buy yourself two pairs of whatever next time so you can alternate and let them dry thoroughly.
Or get crocs and wear socks.

LadyEloise1 · 18/02/2022 18:01

Get two pairs if the M&S Crocs dupes with fleece lining and wear them alternate weeks.
Or buy a pair of Crocs, buy several pairs of Croc fleece liners ( dupes I think ) on Amazon and bung them in the washjng machjne after use.

MalfunctioningRobot · 18/02/2022 18:13

I have a pair of these.

www.pavers.co.uk/products/ladies-clog-mule-slipper-inb34013-320-835

They’re really comfortable, have a proper sole and because they’re a felt material are really warm too.

Escargooooooo · 18/02/2022 18:19

Well bugger me, it seems from that other thread I can just throw these in the machine. And as you say, nothing lost if they get ruined.

Off to try ....

I know wash-a-wools are enclosed however they are wool and do not make your feet sweat nor do they make them too hot. But what do I care, you're the one with manky slippers.

Omg don't throw anything sheepskin in the washing machine
JMAngel1 · 18/02/2022 18:56

Just throw them in the washing machine - what have you got to lose?
