Honking slippers

Partially my fault, but I need to know what to do about my slippers.

I have Emu Mayberrys, which are sheepskin, crossover jobs, lovely and fluffy for the first month, a little less so and worn looking by the second. By the third, I've worn the fleece on the upper sole right through and they stink!

I know this is partially my fault because I don't dry my feet enough when I get out of the bath, so they have a bit of dampness every day, but my word, they honk of cheddar.

I'm pretty sure they can't go through the washing machine. Although sheepskin can obviously cope with being wet. And I can't keep shelling out £50 on slippers every 3 months. Even if it wasn't because they honk, they are worn too. I'm a SAHM and they are on my feet from 7am to 9pm.

What slippers do you have that are brilliant and either cheaper so replacement isn't a problem, or machine washable....

@TeapotCollection

On a more helpful note, I wear 4.7 tog slipper socks. Way more comfortable and practical than slippers. Think my last ones were £12 for 3 off eBay. I wear them all day at weekends

Why would you need three slippers? Two is enough for most people Grin

WeAreTheHeroes · 18/02/2022 19:38

Ha ha - that's helpful for me as my slipper socks are wearing through on the heels.

Escargooooooo · 18/02/2022 20:20

Well. They've gone through the wool wash.

They've come out looking, well, like clumped together wet sheepskin, so will see how they look once dry.

There's still a faint whiff of cheddar though. Perhaps I needed more powder, I didn't want to go too heavy handed incase it affected the wool. If they dry ok, I'll whack a load it and run it again....

I wash my sheepskin slippers and they're absolutely fine. I've had them for 8-9 years now and apart from a slight discolouration on the toe part they still look brand new. Mind you then again I don't shove damp feet inside them and I don't wear them pretty much every waking hour of the day

The smell will be in the sole part so scrub that with biological washing liquid or powder and a toothbrush whilst keeping the fluffy part dry.

I wear Birkenstock's and a clean pair of socks every day. Don't stink. However Birkenstock's without socks rapidly stink.

Ah, but all they'd have to do is then "request a return" and they'd get my address to "return" them too.

No no no.

@Swonderful

I recommend Haflinger wool clogs. You can wear socks as they're not as warm as sheepskin.
Yes yes yes, I love my haulier clogs. I converted my friend who suffers from honky Slippers, hers are still stink free. They ate very supportive and might take a bit of getting used too. I got a new pair this Christmas so have demoted my old ones to outside slippersSmile
