Honking slippers

Partially my fault, but I need to know what to do about my slippers.

I have Emu Mayberrys, which are sheepskin, crossover jobs, lovely and fluffy for the first month, a little less so and worn looking by the second. By the third, I've worn the fleece on the upper sole right through and they stink!

I know this is partially my fault because I don't dry my feet enough when I get out of the bath, so they have a bit of dampness every day, but my word, they honk of cheddar.

I'm pretty sure they can't go through the washing machine. Although sheepskin can obviously cope with being wet. And I can't keep shelling out £50 on slippers every 3 months. Even if it wasn't because they honk, they are worn too. I'm a SAHM and they are on my feet from 7am to 9pm.

What slippers do you have that are brilliant and either cheaper so replacement isn't a problem, or machine washable....

I'm not sure if this is real, but wear socks with them. Do you wear them when you go out?

TeapotCollection · 18/02/2022 15:39

Damn, thought this was going to be about some novelty slippers that make a honking horn noise. I was going to buy some 😃

DoucheCanoe · 18/02/2022 15:42

I think you're supposed to wear socks with slippers if you're wearing them for 14 hours at a time 🤢

You may as well just get Primark cheapos if they're only lasting 3 months anyway.

Or learn to dry your feet before putting them in your slippers, or wear socks

SnowD · 18/02/2022 15:45

Some people have a stinky worn out women's shoe fetish. Just saying

Theunamedcat · 18/02/2022 15:49

Just buy a couple of cheap pairs and rotate them putting them under the radiator to dry properly when not in use

TeapotCollection · 18/02/2022 15:49

On a more helpful note, I wear 4.7 tog slipper socks. Way more comfortable and practical than slippers. Think my last ones were £12 for 3 off eBay. I wear them all day at weekends

Iamanicepersonreally · 18/02/2022 15:50

I buy sheepskin bootee slippers from Celtic and Co. They last years and can go in the washing machine

Escargooooooo · 18/02/2022 15:52

I don't want to wear socks with them, my feet will roast.

I think when I see it written down, the fact I wear them 14hrs a day, is pretty much the answer here. Anything on my bare feet every day for 14hrs as I jog around after twin toddlers, is going to wear out and stink.

Good machine washable ones anyone?

Cheapo ones are no good. They need to be robust/have a decent sole. I tried a mock version of my Mayberrys from Tesco. They were beyond uncomfortable, and £11 I think. Stretched so much they fell off my feet after a week.

I buy sheepskin moccasins from sheepskin.co.uk and they’re holding up well two years on.

SalsaLove · 18/02/2022 15:56

£29

girlmom21 · 18/02/2022 15:57

Just wear socks instead of slippers, no?

Escargooooooo · 18/02/2022 15:58

Sorry, I should say not enclosed ones either. Flip flop/slider types if you know what I mean...

Buy some that are sold as machine washable - Sainsburys have loads, so do Amazon. Wear on rotation. Or get crocs - you can wash those too.

You'll be at risk of Plantar Fasciitis if you wear slippers all day without a decent sole.

Legomania · 18/02/2022 16:06

My £30 Next ones are still going strong since Christmas 2019, including 2 years of wfh. I do wear socks with them though.

HelloKeith · 18/02/2022 16:09

www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09KTNFWCG/?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

Washable with a slight heel and proper sole for the ole plantar fasciitis and glitter for the jazz.

Maybe see a dr about your feet? Do you have some sort of fungal infection? You can try foot deodorant. Why do you not dry your feet after a bath- that is very odd.

I wear sheepskin slippers barefoot, am at home with a toddler a lot and mine never smell, last at least a year until I wear the sole out.

Escargooooooo · 18/02/2022 16:19

Yes, but not enclosed ones, my feet will roast

I have a bath in the morning, hop out and twins are already wanting breakfast. So I tend to rub down with a towel quickly, chuck whatever on, stuff my feet in my slippers and off I go.

I didn't have this problem prior to DTwins. It's because I'm on my feet and on the go all day. Very different to when it was just the one DS.

They're not soggy dripping wet feet. They aren't bone dry though.

Maybe it is my feet...

Not slippers but Skechers wash-a-wools are comfy, supportive and machine washable.

It's not because it's your feet. A pair of slippers worn on a daily basis without socks are going to stink within weeks, no matter whose feet are wearing them. That you put them onto damp feet is just accelerating the stinkage.

SalsaLove · 18/02/2022 16:34

Yes, anything high quality and providing support to your feet. I strongly recommend a good pair of moccasins.
