Grabbing breakfast...

...is the worst thing I've ever heard anyone say. I hate it. I hate people who say it. And I hate people who do it. Grabbing. Yuk.

OP posts:
MrsDThomas · 17/02/2022 17:33

Its yuk. I dont grab. I sit down for a meal. Especially breakfast.

ShowOfHands · 17/02/2022 17:35

People are always grabbing a snack or chucking something in the oven or throwing on some jeans or popping somewhere or have pops of colour in their house or are nibbling at things or munching or picking at some nibbles or choking down medicine or getting Calpol down a toddler.

It's all affected bollocks and I HATE it.

Finfintytint · 17/02/2022 17:37

Yes, I hate the phrase. I get images of someone cramming a pop tart in their mouth on the way to the bus stop. I get indigestion thinking about it.

MrsDThomas · 17/02/2022 17:43

I don’t understand how someone cant sit down for a slice of toast and a coffee in the morning. 15 minutes out if your morning.

cherrytopcake · 17/02/2022 17:45

The worst are those marketing ads that say "grab and go". Makes me shudder.

FrustratedTeddyLamp · 17/02/2022 17:46

I Don't really see the issue...meselfWink

LimeSupper · 17/02/2022 18:28

@MrsDThomas well some people are busy in the morning that’s all! I get up at 5.55am and still don’t manage to sit down for 15 minutes and eat breakfast. Should I be getting up at half five and eating then?? I wouldn’t even fancy it at that time. People have different lives.

I prefer “eating” breakfast though as I don’t like the word grabbing for some reason.

GreenWheat · 17/02/2022 18:33

Don't get me started! I can't stand it when people "grab" sandwiches, "jump" on buses, "pop" on a jumper and "sling" things in the oven. Just do these things like normal people!

MrsDThomas · 17/02/2022 18:36

Oh you’re one who gets up before anyone else and is busy.

I get it,

maddiemookins16mum · 17/02/2022 18:38

I only sit down for breakfast at weekends or on holiday/Christmas etc.
The other 200 plus days a year I eat toast or a yoghurt as I’m loading the washing machine or feeding the cats. It’s not a sit down meal for me most days.

FlibbertyGiblets · 17/02/2022 18:39

Hah. Threw her out. Fling it in the machine. Rammed it down your throat.

Stop it!

nocoolnamesleft · 17/02/2022 18:40

I do grab a breakfast bar out of the box and head out the door. I'm an extreme night owl. I'd sooner miss breakfast altogether rather than have to lose 15 mins precious sleep to eat it.

childcarequery · 17/02/2022 18:40

I love this thread!! I thought I was the odd one out

PiesNotGuys · 17/02/2022 18:41

I don’t get chance to grab breakfast until 3.30-4pm most days never mind sitting down for 15 minutes on a morning (being fair if I had 15 mins spare I wouldn’t use it to eat in the morning, I’d probably use it to either exercise or mainline coffee)

Grabbing breakfast doesn’t bother me, but I’d be more likely to say ‘get some’ than grab.

Grin

I do all of those things, I’m sorry! I don’t grab breakfast though, but only because I don’t eat breakfast…

Eggshausted · 17/02/2022 18:54

Grab a bite to eat! . Yeuchhh. Just the one bite? And it makes my teeth itch when people say ‘Uni’. So lazy.

RallySooney · 17/02/2022 18:57

Some competitive grab and go on this thread!

MintyGreenDream · 17/02/2022 19:03

hunkering down.Makes me feel like I'm in and Enid Blyton book.

Ilovetommycat · 17/02/2022 19:08

My worst two are 'a bite to eat ' and 'kitchen supper'
Totally unrelated but aaagghh.

Somuddled · 17/02/2022 19:11

What don't you like about a kitchen supper?
Somuddled · 17/02/2022 19:12

I don't really like grabbing breakfast because it feels far too active for a morning.

PangolinPie · 17/02/2022 19:13

Kitchen supper is very Hyacinth Bucket

Ilovetommycat · 17/02/2022 19:38

Exactly Pangolin Smile
Plus the Pangolin is a beautiful animal.

Riapia · 17/02/2022 19:56

When it’s a “ movie night” the whole family must “ snuggle” under a blanket with snacks.
No self respecting MNer’s family ever tells them anything, it has to be “announced”,Formally one imagines, by a toastmaster.

Christmasbird · 17/02/2022 19:56

The phrase "a meal out" I can't stand
