11 year old girl, what size clothes?

Can I ask what size clothes your DDs wear.
My Dd is 11 and (I think) a fairly normal sized child. She is the smallest of her friends.
She has hit puberty so is currently a bit bigger round the tummy than she was but, again, no bigger than any of her friends.
We recently went shopping and found many shops sizing to be really weird.
Age 14 clothes that would barely even fit my 9 year old round the waist!
If you have girls of a similar age, what size do they wear and where do they shop??
We did find some stuff in H&M in the end but interested to know where else to look.

My almost 11 year old is 150cm and wears an 11-12

CinnamonStar · 12/02/2022 12:30

My Dd is 10, she is one of the youngest but still one of the tallest girls in her class but not filled out yet, no curves.

She has mostly age 11-12 trousers for the length, but still needs the adjustable waist taking in. Tops are mostly 9-10. She'd not fit women's clothes at all yet.

I think it varies such a lot at this age. My older Dd was 12 or 13 when women's sizes suddenly fitted her far better than children's. Aged 15 she's women's size 6 or 8, but she does still have some age 13/14 things from the children's section.

RoastedFerret · 12/02/2022 12:36

I agree with everyone who says it varies so much at that age. Dd is just turned 12 and wears adult sizes, xxs or xs. She has a woman's shape so I think it's kind of normal that she would wear womens clothes?

I agree. My youngest DD is 11 and has a figure already. The kids clothes are straight up and down and haven't been any good for her since she started puberty. Plus she's quite tall. My older DD was the same at that age.

elliejjtiny · 12/02/2022 13:05

I only have boys so probably a different shape but he mostly wears 9-10 clothes.

Franticbutterfly · 12/02/2022 15:35

My DD isn't 11 until April and she is over 5' 3" and weighs 9 stone. She wears a size 8-10. But it's a nightmare trying to find school clothes as they are in kids sizes and she's very womanly. I feel that she will stop growing soon (as I did).

SouthParkCovid · 12/02/2022 15:42

Whats her weight and height op?

My 13 year old is 8 stone and 5 foot tall. She varies in shops.

River island 12-13
JD sports 13-14 or 15-16
Primak ladies XS or 14 years

NellyDElephant · 12/02/2022 15:49

My ten year old is a skinny bean and is currently wearing age 9-10 but trousers aren’t long enough in the leg and still falling down, skirts too short but too big on waist. We have to buy things with adjustable elasticated waist from next. I’d say she’s quite petite - awaiting the growth spurt when she starts secondary school, like her older sister!

HearMeSnore · 12/02/2022 16:36

I've had this problem trying to get swimsuits for my 10yr old DD. She's average height for her age and solidly built. She's an advanced swimmer for her age and childrens' competition swimwear is always way too small, but adult sizes are designed to accommodate a bust which she doesn't have.

Oddly, the "beachwear" type of swimsuit in an age 10/11 seems to fit her fine. It's just the sport ones that always come up tiny.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 12/02/2022 16:44

11yo is 160cm already, but still has quite a childlike figure. She's pretty much in the middle of her friends weight/frame wise.
She wears children's sizes 13-14 where I can get them - lots of children's ranges stop at age 12. even small sized adult clothing still seems miles too big width ways even though she's not unusually slender, as she doesn't have curves. Feet size 6 and still growing!

Hallowbat · 12/02/2022 17:49

Size 11-12 or Size 4 or 6

BuddhaForMary · 12/02/2022 17:56

DD11 size 6 feet, in fact I recently got her some new boots and had to get 7 because the 6 was a bit snug so I'm assuming they've gone up half a size over the last few months.

Smartiepants79 · 12/02/2022 18:00

It has been reassuring to know how many girls are wearing clothes in what would seem to be much ‘larger’ sizes.
Sounds like my DD is fairly normal!!

My almost 11 year old fits age 9-10 clothes. The next size up is massive on her waist. Looking at her friends, the differences in sizes is huge. It’s a tricky age when some are much more developed than others. I wish childrens clothes manufacturers would go on waist instead of age.

Cashwhat · 12/02/2022 18:18

My 11 (11 last Nov) has just had her school height weight letter through. She's 166cm last month.

She hit puberty at the age of 9 and has boobs and hips so I have to buy her school trousers age 16-17 as she's got legs that go on for ever. Clothes wise, she's usually a XS/6-8 in Primark or similar.

themental · 12/02/2022 18:22

I have one almost 12 and one 7, older is short and straight and the younger is tall and curvy so they both wear 9-10. I have to buy blue pants for one and pink for the other or I'd never keep track of who's whose. 🙈

Sarahlou252 · 12/02/2022 18:28

Vastly different answers! Dd is 11, oldest in her year, had a huge growth spurt and started her periods last year at just 10. She is tall, slim, and an adult size 8.
I look at clothes meant for girls age 11 and they're so far off sizing wise, and yet she's not terribly unusual, I don't think.

navydear · 12/02/2022 19:01

My 11 year old is slightly shorter than her friends, has hit puberty and has a normal tummy shape and wears age 10-11.
If you dd is wearing age 14, she is definitely over weight and you are right to be concerned

crispsandnuts · 12/02/2022 20:17

Thats a bit harsh navydear, you can not state someone is definitely overweight, especially a child coming up to puberty.

lljkk · 12/02/2022 20:25

IIRC, yr6 DD was wearing "age 9-10" clothes.
She was small for age... she had several very plump peers who wore > adult size 8 clothes.

tiredanddangerous · 12/02/2022 20:28

Mine is in adult size 8 mostly although she has got a few age 15 bits that fit. She's about 5ft 5 and started her periods a year ago so she's not child shaped any more!

BuddhaForMary · 12/02/2022 20:56

Don't be so silly.
Whatwouldscullydo · 12/02/2022 21:20

Clothes can vary in size even in the same shop.

Mine wears anything from age 11-12 upwards.

Her hoodies she likes bigger amd longer so she will wear a man's size small ( mens hoodies actually reach the waist and below) or a womens XS in sports leggings h&m. Her swim costume is an adult size 8.

Totally depends on what it is and where jts from.

Shes a normal height and weight according to the nhs height and weigh check in yr 6.

Shes 150cm /4 ft 11.25

@BuddhaForMary maybe the opposite issue is what causes us problems. My 15 year old at 5'6 and 7 stone has very little shape which is why nothing fits her!!!!!
Fedupsotired · 13/02/2022 10:28

@BuddhaForMary have you seen how large age 14 clothes are? I can wear them as a nearly 10 stone adult! I think @navydear is right and I would be concerned if a 9 year old was in age 14 clothes.
