11 year old girl, what size clothes?

Can I ask what size clothes your DDs wear.
My Dd is 11 and (I think) a fairly normal sized child. She is the smallest of her friends.
She has hit puberty so is currently a bit bigger round the tummy than she was but, again, no bigger than any of her friends.
We recently went shopping and found many shops sizing to be really weird.
Age 14 clothes that would barely even fit my 9 year old round the waist!
If you have girls of a similar age, what size do they wear and where do they shop??
We did find some stuff in H&M in the end but interested to know where else to look.

@navydear

My 11 year old is slightly shorter than her friends, has hit puberty and has a normal tummy shape and wears age 10-11. If you dd is wearing age 14, she is definitely over weight and you are right to be concerned
I’m a fully grown adult woman. I teach this age range of children and I know of many girls this age who would require clothes that are bigger than mine. They are NOT overweight. They are just taller than me and built differently. Several of them are extremely athletic with not an ounce of extra fat. They’re still 5’5’’ and requiring adult sized clothes. My Dd is one of the smallest of her friends. She still doesn’t fit into age 11 clothes.

My dd (11) river island seem to be great for length, but huge in the waist. She's about the same size as all of her friends. In some shops she needs 12-13, as she has long legs, she's not hit puberty yet ( and hopefully we have a while yet) but I know by other friends that their dd are about the same size, even those who have. I think it completely depends where you shop. As long as they're eating well and exercising I wouldn't make a big deal of it.
**@BuddhaForMary* have you seen how large age 14 clothes are? I can wear them as a nearly 10 stone adult! I think @navydear* is right and I would be concerned if a 9 year old was in age 14 clothes.
Of course I have, I've got children. I have a DD who's 11. All girls are different shapes. When my older DD was 11 she was a different shape to her sister. Neither of them overweight, just different shape.

Mine is in adult size 8 mostly although she has got a few age 15 bits that fit. She's about 5ft 5 and started her periods a year ago so she's not child shaped any more!

Exactly this.

Shame some people would rather state the child is overweight than realise that all kids are different shapes and their bodies mature at different times. My DD does wear some age 14/15 stuff but what's the point of trailing round the kids section AND the adults section when we can just go to one - and invariably adult clothes are the ones she prefers the style of anyway.

My tall slim 10 year old wears 12-13 in most stores like h&m, 2x XS or 13-14 in primark, 13-14 in river island.
Depends on the child though because another daughter was wearing those sizes at 12/13.
H&M tend to run very slim though imo.

My 11yo wear as it size 10 or small.

Being able to fit into age 13/14 garments as an adult doesn't mean 11 year olds are fat.

It depends a lot on the clothes.
I can wear (as a middle aged, size 12-14 woman) some clothes from the children's section (I've had some excellent coats in the past). Other clothes in the same shop, same age range, I'd possibly not get past my knees.
It depends on the fabric, style, cut, my own body shape.

My Dd had some shorts from the children's section, I think aged 11-12. When she was aged 11 and 12 the waist gaped ridiculously and they fell straight off her.
When she was 13 we couldn't tell if the waist fitted or not, because she couldn't get them past her hips.

She hadn't suddenly got "overweight" in that year. She'd just entered puberty and needed clothes that were cut differently.

Children's clothes are rightly, cut for a child's straight up and down body shape.
Women's clothes are cut for a woman's shape. Some 11 year old girls (and some 13 or 14 year old girls) still have a child's build and proportions, lots don't
