Mine was walking down stairs with my hands in my pockets. Didn't end well Grin

Going to Luton

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 09/02/2022 20:09

When painting a bedroom, deciding that instead of going down one step ladder to go up the one next to it would be too time consuming...so I stepped across from one to the other...well, nearly.
I landed in a bruised crumpled heap covered in white emulsion with a collapsed step ladder either side of me.

Sorry Dad.

Thinking I would try abseiling (was very young). I completely froze at the top, refused to move an inch up or down and had to be rescued by several people.

This is mine too. I wasn’t young though. People told me it was the best way to get rid of my fear of heights. So I did a charity abseil. I waited 4 hours to do it, by which time all my friends who came to watch had gone, I did manage to get all the way down, but at the bottom they cheerfully asked if I would do it again and through tears I said “noooooo!”

Never again.

Perfectlystill · 09/02/2022 20:14

Also: filling a diesel car with petrol. Horrific expensive mistake that means I still double check every time I fill up 16 years on from it.

IReallyLikeCrows · 09/02/2022 20:14

Pickled egg. I love hard-boiled eggs. I love pickles. I do not like pickle juice and eggs together. At all.

Hairyfriend · 09/02/2022 20:17

@Sunnyday321

Pickled walnuts 😨
I thought the exact same!!! Until I found this recipe and it really makes the dish delicious! I don't add the pastry, add more veg (carrots, potato, celery, pearl barley etc) and sometimes make with beef cheeks.

Going to Bongo Bingo.

We were staying in a hotel next to a venue where this was going on. It sounded horrific enough from the outside!

LightSpeeds · 09/02/2022 20:21

@NotRainingToday

A very high, very fast water slide. It was like a colonic irrigation!
Shock Grin
CeliaCanth · 09/02/2022 20:23

Stick a pitchfork into a wasps’ nest “to see what happens”. They were furious.

OvertheRainbow2U · 09/02/2022 20:23

crab
anal
in no particular order
both vile
hats off to those who enjoy

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 09/02/2022 20:24

Skydiving. Absolutely loved it. But the price:enjoyment ratio doesn't make it worthwhile.

Eat cactus. (Restaurant in Mexico)

Do one of those massive obstacle races. I fell off the first obstacle, but my foot was trapped in it so I was hanging off it upside down by one leg. Which has never recovered properly in the past 10 years and never will.

FourChimneys · 09/02/2022 20:25

Tipped a generous scoop of washing powder into a vegetable stew (large enough to freeze portions) rather than into the washing machine drawer.

Get on a train without checking it was the right one, or even heading in roughly the right direction.

CaveWoman1 · 09/02/2022 20:29

Paintballing. I was enjoying it until some dickhead shot me in the neck at point-blank range. I was in agony, & the scar from the wound is still there to this day. Never ever again.

Hairyfriend · 09/02/2022 20:30

Hakarl in Iceland.

Imagine mixing stale, years old urine with bleach, then eating it!!!

clary · 09/02/2022 20:33

@Scarby9

Popped a stray bit of cottage cheese into my mouth from the newly cleaned work surface, only to discover it was Jif/ Cif.
My sister famously did that with blue cheese... nope, it was biological washing powder.

Some of these are very funny and some are downright scary (the stick blender??). I am impressed with @XenoBitch potholing (no waaaay) and @edwinbear swimming the Channel, wowser!

Mine is flying from Gatwick (we live in the East Mids) - our flight home landed at midnight and all I could think about on the last day of the holiday was how awful the drive home would be, halfway round the M25 and up the M1. I was right too. Local airports only from now on!

pictish · 09/02/2022 20:36

Another vote for paintballing - actual worst day of my life. Got spattered from close range, lay on my side and cried. Hated every minute. I am not made for war.

GameofPhones · 09/02/2022 20:36

Use a retractable dog lead. First time out the door, the dog spotted a cat. The dog, and the lead, ran out at top speed over my hand, cutting it.

OnwardsAndSideways1 · 09/02/2022 20:37

I have so many!

Shaving my foof. The regrowth was horrifically itchy.

Going up the Eiffel Tower. First time I made the 2nd stage, second time the first, there won't be a third. The thing's rusty!

Ate eel (whoever said jellied eels was right). Didn't even swallow the first time.

Ditto Tete de Veau, frogs legs, snails. Once was enough of all of these.

Went on a big wheel, wind blowing, got taken off screaming.

Don't feel the need to repeat skiing.

OnwardsAndSideways1 · 09/02/2022 20:38

Had my cuticles cut during a manicure. The pain!

clary · 09/02/2022 20:38

Oh yes and paintballing. Did it for a friend's stag do (yes I was a hen). Paying to have people shoot hard things at me - and being instructed on it by someone who clearly thought he was in the Army? no thanks.

I've never been potholing and I definitely do not intend to.

ISpyCobraKai · 09/02/2022 20:40

Have a baby!
I adore the one I had, she's amazing but over 20 years later, it was definitely the right thing to do to just do it once.

stoppedlurking · 09/02/2022 20:43

@WillowintheUK

Tried andouillette - one teensy mouthful. Truly awful. 🤮
We have a place near Vire where they make this stuff. One thing I have never tried.
thistimelastweek · 09/02/2022 20:44

Scuba diving.

Sort of glad I did it.

But once was enough.

Zeewest · 09/02/2022 20:45

Whilst pregnant ferry to Scilly Isles, sooo sick I got the helicopter back, cost a fortune.

Pyewhacket · 09/02/2022 20:48

Ryanair. Never , ever again.
