Is anyone else following it? Grin

Vardy's phone was accidentally dropped into the North Sea... Yeah right!

Go Colleen!

QuebecBagnet · 11/05/2022 06:54

I’m firmly team Rooney. I think Vardy leaked the messages, has tried to destroy evidence and she’s the one who has brought this to court, not Rooney.

I do worry though that Rooney won’t be able to legally prove it and Vardy will win and Rooney will have to pay everyone’s costs and Vardy will spend years crowing about it in interviews.

bit of light relief from serious news

Yes!

The agent not being well enough to give evidence adds another reason I can't believe Vardy is still carrying on with this.
Imagine having this much money to piss up the wall.

haw · 11/05/2022 07:00

Do you think a judge could find for Rooney on the basis that Mardy Vardy was the proximate cause of the stories being leaked and without her passing on the knowledge to her agent, her agent would not have had the story to sell?

QuebecBagnet · 11/05/2022 07:01

Rooney thought she was being smart saying the leak was from Vardys account and not actually saying it was Vardy. There was an earlier hearing to make a judgement on this and Rooney lost, the judge instructed that even though she said account everyone would read it as accusing Vardy so that’s what she had done.

so now Rooney has to prove it was Vardy and not the agent or someone else who knew Vardys account password and could log in. This is where I think she might come unstuck.

think I have that right.

I wish a Sun journalist would drop her in it but they always protect their sources so they won’t.

Morph22010 · 11/05/2022 07:21

Jamie Vardy should be a fantastic rags to riches story, someone who was playing football in the non league and working in a factory that has gone on to win the premiership, fa cup and play for England, this sort of thing just doesn’t happen. There was talk that he was very looked down on by the other players and wags within the England camp as he’d come from the non league so maybe that’s where it all stemmed from initially. However she is just making him look an absolute fool now dragging it all out.

Good precis from Ros Atkins this morning

Before the fun kicks off today can anyone explain to me how WhatsApp texts can be lost forever. I thought the reverse is the case. When I lost my phone tech had all of its content retrieved, without any loss that I noticed, within the hour.

yep, thats pretty much the gist of the case and the earlier hearings.

I have a defamation exam on Monday so hopefully can sneak this case in, its a good example of the judde deciing on what the meaning of the statement made was - how most "ordinary people" would take the accusation to mean that it WAS Rebecca (as 99% of people do control their own facebook account, bar say the Queen!)

acatcalledjohn · 11/05/2022 11:06

Such a waste of oxygen. They have no talents, they just married talented overpaid rich blokes. Imagine showcasing having no common sense and no concept of the real world outside of their privileged bubble. It's not even light relief, it's obscene.

Meanwhile women and children are being bombed in war zones, far too many families can't even afford the basics in life in this country, but they are throwing away money to try to protect their overinflated egos.

Like I said: Obscene.

mymindisamuckingfuddle · 11/05/2022 12:24

My opinion on this (amusing and light relief from the doom and gloom of the world) farce is that Vardy absolutely did leak the stories about Rooney and she's pissed off on being called out publicly for it.

Missing evidence/accidental deletings/phones in the sea? Really? What a load of utter cobblers.

Even if she didn't leak these particular stories, and time will tell, she's a total idiot for bringing it to court because the evidence she's having to give and the exposure of her private messages show that she does gossip and leak information. She's indiscreet and can't be trusted. And that, in the world of celebs and WAGS, will mean that she's outside the circle of trust forevermore. She's effectively signed her own warrant on her exclusion from 'the gang' from now on.

Foolish woman, and deeply unpleasant to boot. I don't mind Colleen. I mean they've all got more money than sense, and her sticking with her philandering buffoon of a husband makes zero sense to me, but whatever floats her boat.

MoonriseKingdom · 11/05/2022 13:57

I know nothing of the law but the loss of data obviously looks very suspicious to an outsider. Legally can this go against Vardy though? Can the judge decide if this was likely deliberate. It seems unfair to Colleen that she has to prove it was RV who leaked the information but the evidence is destroyed and the agent can’t be cross examined!

Completely agree! Why can't the judge see what Vardy is doing and throw the whole thing out?!

AngelinaFangelina · 11/05/2022 14:18

It's excruciatingly embarrassing, particularly Vardys released text messages. My toes were curling reading them! Even the ones setting up the photo opportunities with paps to get her and the other WAGS coming out of a resteraunt. Wouldn't you be mortified.

QuebecBagnet · 11/05/2022 14:21

And how does Vardy know how big Peter Andres willy is? Think I feel most sorry for him getting dragged into this

friendlycat · 11/05/2022 14:38

So far Vardy certainly isn’t being portrayed in a good light (no surprise there) but by the end surely her reputation will be shredded. The only winners here will be the lawyers and their fees. The whole thing is madness.

Why on earth she pursued this is extremely difficult to understand.
even the opening salvo of yesterday shows her to be deeply unpleasant and prepared to leak stories for her financial gain. Whatever the outcome there’s no going back on this fact.

Ludicrous waste of money and utterly ludicrous all the “lost” evidence in terms of phone, data and unusable laptop etc.

ImAvingOops · 11/05/2022 14:38

Even if Vardy was innocent of these particular leaks, she was mad to bring this case, since all it's done is remind everyone about the stories she has sold and revealed her nasty texts to the people in her social circle, whose opinions she's likely to care about - people who work with her husband etc.

She ought to have just said, sorry, other people have access to her account and she will investigate, blah blah blah. Rooney would have won that little spat but Vardy wouldn't be exposing her own nastiness any further. I do wonder why Loose Women let her on the show, given her history re the Peter Andre story.

I also think that since onus is on Rooney to prove it, since Vardy has failed to provide the phone and computer she was ordered to hand over, Rooney should win by default.

ComDummings · 11/05/2022 14:41

I agree with others, Vardy was so stupid to bring this case. She comes across as a horrible woman and this is all her own doing. She should have denied it then shut up so everyone forgot about it instead of dragging Rooney to court.

QuebecBagnet · 11/05/2022 14:43

I’m just glad the Depp/Heard debacle has taken a week off while this one is on! 😁

TigerLilyTail · 11/05/2022 14:46

I saw the Ros Atkins story on this and wondered how he kept his face straight.

They had a lawyer on who said that there are three possibilities:

  1. RV leaked the stories
  2. Someone connected to RV leaked the stories and she knew about it
  3. Someone connected to RV leaked the stories and she didn't know about it

If it's No. 3, then RV is ok, but if it's 1. or 2. RV will lose.

I have a big tub of popcorn ready for this!

ImAvingOops · 11/05/2022 14:48

Vardy came across badly in I'm a celebrity as well. Makes you wonder why her husband has allowed this to continue - it can't be doing his career any good. Imagine going to work and your teammates know your wife sold stories to the press!

TigerLilyTail · 11/05/2022 14:51

I still think that CR said the leaks were coming from RV's account and it seems pretty certain they were coming from RV's account, so I still don't understand the earlier judge's ruling on that one.

Candleabra · 11/05/2022 14:51

I don’t understand the legal technicalities of this case. But surely you can’t just claim all the evidence is lost or destroyed?
Is the act of “losing” it suspicious in its own right (legally I mean) - so could the judge rule against Vardy because had the evidence shown her in a good light she would have presented it?
