Celeb scandals of the 90s

I'd forgotten all about Julia Roberts and Kiefer Sutherland until I read this piece about it. And then wondered how I could've forgotten as it was huge! And those were the days before social media!

I never realised that Michelle Pfeiffer played a conciliatory role or that the wedding cake apparently spoke to a tabloid reporter!

What are some scandals you remember from that period? (I'm housebound with Covid - humour me!)

The impeachment programme that is on iPlayer (I think still), is brilliant and it shows it from Monica’s side. There was a HUUUGGGE power imbalance and he completely took advantage of her.

TV shows like The Girlie Show followed The Word in the late Friday night slot. I seem to remember Sara Cox losing a lot of weight between series'. Does anyone remember the T4 on the beach episode where she very spangles apparently.

Staying up later after pub/work to watch The Box (music TV you control) where Aerosmiths vids with Liv Tyler/Alicia Silverstone were on constant rotation and was just as it came out she was his daughter but had only recently found out.

Kevin Federline left Neicey (her characters' name from Moesha) pregnant for Britney.

I don't think Julian Clary has been mentioned yet? His amazing 'I've just been fisting Norman Lamont' one liner took him off the tellybox for ages.
I remember howling at that comment. His career never recovered to where it should have.

Was it also the same show where he said Charlie, they're looking for Charlie backstage or something like that?

I'm just watching the Winter Olympics and am reminded of another scandal - Tonya Harding (allegedly?) hiring a couple of heavies to kneecap rival Nancy Kerrigan! In the end the Olympics was something of an anticlimax - Tonya forgot to lace up her boots and burst into tears on the ice, and Nancy "only" won the silver medal.
They made a film about this I, Tonya with Margot Robbie.

Rebecca loos will always be a pig wanker in my eyes! She knew exactly what she was doing with David. My sympathy was with Victoria who was the innocent party and still vilified in the press!

Didn't Mick Hucknall also come out and say that Martine M did not vomit in his hair as she was living off that for years after her career nosedived?

then he went back to Della for a bit and she did this really weird photo spread in OK magazine in a ski chalet with her best friend (but no Grant), holding glasses of champagne because she was so pleased to get him back

then he left her again for Anthea

Caprice, Tara P-T, and there was another one called Normandie Keith (embarrassed I remember this nonsense). They were the supposed IT girls who were all over the social pages of the weekend broadsheets.

Not a scandal per se but Jill Dando's murder was quite shocking. I once knew someone who claimed to be stalked by Barry George. She was convinced he was innocent as he was a particularly crap stalker who would follow her about on roller skates, and there was no way he was clever enough to mastermind a murder.

When the Liz Hurley/Hugh Grant/Divine Brown scandal broke my parents went to a party and they Hugh and Liz were meant to be there but they didn't come but someone else told my mum that Liz was chucking the bed in a symbolic gesture as it was tainted.
I remember a new mattress being delivered.

Oh I remember that! The drinking, drugs, partying and marrying some Welsh bloke she'd only known 24 hours!

She seemed to be all done with it by about 30 though, and built herself a pretty successful career in acting and producing.

She was a young kid on work experience. He was gross

ffs 22-23 is NOT a young kid.

Compared to his status, age and experience she was like a kid.
