What do you cook in the grill??

I never use my grill - other than for storage of cake tins etc.
We use the oven for cooking stuff.
It’s an integrated type oven with grill in the top

What do you cook in yours? I’m totally lost 🤣🤣

‘Groven ’ I like that mini. I’ve had to ‘grovel’ when I’ve put grill on instead of oven and something comes out half black and half raw. Not often but the smoke is dramatic!

PattyPan · 26/01/2022 21:43

@NewYearCalavicci toasters are more energy-efficient than grills

It stores baking trays but I use it for bacon, finishing off omelettes (setting/browning the top), toasties, cheese on toast, browning/melting cheese on cauliflower cheese, French bread pizza,

It’s a small oven too so I keep food warm in it & warm plates.

Mykittensmittens · 26/01/2022 21:47

Sardines on toast

KurtWilde · 26/01/2022 21:51

Bacon, sausages, cheese on toast, vegan things for DS.

KurtWilde · 26/01/2022 21:52

Oh and to brown off cheese on top of pasta dishes

SquigglePigs · 26/01/2022 21:54

@nocoolnamesleft

Bacon. Cheese on toast.
Exactly this for us!
OnTheBenchOfDoom · 26/01/2022 22:03

Cheese on toast,
nachos (melting the cheese) the left over pulled pork is heated in the microwave
toasted tea cakes
Home made Cajun chicken strips

That is it I think. Mine is part of my oven, top element.

WeAreTheHeroes · 26/01/2022 22:10

Cheese on toast. Sometimes crumpets as I like them properly browned and the toaster takes forever.

I bake/roast pretty much everything else, including bacon. Baking bacon is a game changer - crisp, no turning to cook evenly, no need to snip it to stop it curling up. Bacon in, timer on, sit down with a coffee.

Rupertgrintismyguiltypleasure · 26/01/2022 22:12

Garlic bread
Gammon steaks
Fish fingers
Toasting burger buns
Cheese on toast
Burgers

SquirrelFan · 26/01/2022 22:17

Salmon
Marinated chicken thighs
Puffing omelettes
Bacon
Sausages
I put the plates in when I'm using the oven - heat drifts up and warms them.

Pinchofnom · 26/01/2022 22:20

Bacon, sausages, cheese on toast, hot cross buns (add butter part way through cooking so it melts - divine); crisp up cheese and potato pie/ shepherds pie

Gladioli23 · 26/01/2022 22:21

Cheese on toast, Welsh rarebit, nachos, doing the top of a pasta bake if all parts were hot when they went into the dish so it just needs the cheese browning.

Mine does currently store baking trays though which is very off-putting when I want to do any of those things - which realistically isn't more than a couple of times a month.

MoFro · 26/01/2022 22:21

Thanks all! Seems like a few of us use it for storage and not that much else! 🤣🤣

Cheese on toast - id forgotten that! Tend to use sandwich toaster for that with lots of cheese and add tuna or beans and call it dinner 😬

Might use it for garlic bread and fish fingers - might be cheaper and faster than the oven 👍🏽

Mine is a cooker/grill. On a regular basis I use it to grill bacon and do things like cheese on toast and rarebit. Less often, I cook a big meal and run out of space so use it for Yorkshire puddings/desserts like crumbles and cobblers.

NotsoNeurotypical · 26/01/2022 22:34

Sometimes we do pitta or wrap pizzas that way or chicken dippers or goujons , then serve with salad, coleslaw and pickles. It does cost a lot less than running the full oven, although when I run the oven I try to throw some extra bits in like crumble, cauliflower cheese, cheese straws, baked potatoes or banana muffins instead of running a half empty oven.

DebiNewberry1997 · 26/01/2022 22:45

Cheese on toast
Chicken/pork/salmon kebabs
Macaroni cheese
Bacon/black pudding
Crumpets
Toast (don't have space for a toaster)
Haloumi

BeckyWithTheGoodHair010101 · 26/01/2022 22:47

Mines also a microwave and a second oven. But I only use it at Christmas. Or for plate warming, microwaving peas or beans, and DP uses it for roasting as he is coeliac and can't use the toaster.

ConsiderablyRicherThanYow · 26/01/2022 22:54

Warming plates while the oven is on Grin

Yubaba · 26/01/2022 23:00

Cheese on toast here too.
Our grill is also an oven so I often use it for cooking if I’m making something smaller rather than heating up the bigger oven underneath.
I cooked some part baked rolls in it this morning.

HeronLanyon · 26/01/2022 23:06

This thread has reminded me how much I love an eye level grill. So so much easier to use (I currently have grill element in single electric oven/gas hob.).
One of those things I fear will someday be banned for some (possibly v good eyebrow saving connected) reason.

Best would be both so bigger heavier grill use could still occur.

I was going to say, my grill is also an oven so it does get quite a bit of use either way.

I guess it depends on what your cooking , but as I said I can cook a whole English breakfast on my grill . You cant do that on a toaster Smile

I have a eye level grill and wont part with it ( for reasons mentioned up thread ) but when my gas check was done a few months ago I was advised to get rid of it in case I come home drunk one day and pull the whole oven on top of myself . I was not impressed by that comment at all , so I said if I get that drunk I would have more things to worry about , like setting the house on fire with my hopeless electric fire the housing insisted I had installed last year . Strangle he had nothing to say about that Hmm
