How do I pee in this situation?

I'm going on my first 'long' drive solo with my children (2.5 and 4.5) soon. I'm a relatively new driver, and its a 3.5-4hr drive, setting off early evening. The hope is that the children fall asleep on the way (amd stay asleep).

Obviously I'm going to need to stop off for at least 1 break, and will inevitably need to wee at some stage. I can't leave them in the car whilst I go to the services, and I really don't want to wake 2 dozy children/carry two kids in.

How do I pee?

Am I going to literally have to wee in a potty in a deserted part of the car park? 😳🤢

Am i missing a trick here?

Moonbabysmum phew! It sounded like you were doing the 4 hours in one go! I regularly drive a four hour trip and usually have to stop at least once to pee but I'm on my own so no little ones to consider Grin.

Embracelife · 17/01/2022 16:09

@blobby10

Peeing aside, you really shouldn't drive for longer than 2 hours without a good 10-15 minute break where you get out of the car, walk around, swing your arms etc etc. Especially as a fairly novice driver as you won't be used to concentrating for that long in one go.
This

Don't t push
When you have two dc in car

Arrange a stop half way

ivykaty44 · 17/01/2022 16:11

I always used to start at 5am

Rds quite so drive easier
Children slept but woke after about 2 hours so would stop for drink and wee/pee stop

Never ever had this problem driving with children
Did in an airport
@HollowTalk that's incredibly naive of you. Far safer to pee in a lay by OP.
It's naive of me? Why, where are all the reports of murdering travelling women at service stations?

WouldIBeATwat · 17/01/2022 16:15

Use the petrol station toilets in services instead of the main building.

TragoCardboardCopper · 17/01/2022 16:19

@Moonbabysmum

Men wouldn't think twice about this amd would just pee into a bush brazenly wouldn't they?
Yes, yes they would. And with a she-wee you too can pee into the wind without a care Grin

Seriously, they're fab. Have a practice at home so you don't get 'stage fright' and then you can either pee in a bottle or just by the side of a road. If either of your DC are girls they'll come in handy when they're a bit older and desperate for the loo 45 seconds after leaving home too.

I'd go for tunic type top and trousers rather than a long skirt though, if you go with a she wee and plan to pee in a hedge.

Sunnysideup999 · 17/01/2022 16:21

Yup long skirt and potty/jam jar/ she wee. Done this many many times when driving in lock down and no cafes / restaurants were open to use the toilets.
I’ve also put on Tena lady pants for a long drive in case I got stuck in traffic and had to go.
I have bladder issues and a history of interstitial cystitis so I’m a pro and planning (and going just about anywhere!)

peridito · 17/01/2022 16:24

Um -wear night time period pants ( maybe with a pad inside ) .Blush

SpiderinaWingMirror · 17/01/2022 16:26

I regularly did a long drive on a Friday evening.
Stopped at services for hot choc for kids. Tbh I am a confident driver but I think 4 hrs in the dark without a break isn't the best

SleepingStandingUp · 17/01/2022 16:29

@HPLikecraft
I don't quite understand Travel Janes and she-wees. You have to park somewhere and have a bit of privacy to use them, so how is it an improvement on darting behind a bush?
Long spacious skirt you can face into the car, pull your knickers down from the inside, put the travel John in place and pee without anyone knowing what you're doing. Or if bad weather kneel up backwards in the passenger seat and do it.

I think that's 3 times I've now explained that I'm planning on having a break, just one that involves stretching my legs outside the car etc, not going on to the services... 🙄

Maybe at least read my posts.

😂

I think I can spare the time to stop and pee in a travel potty, but I guess its always good to prepare for anything.

I'm not too worried about it any more tbh. Ill just try to not get caught on the cctv, or if I do, give a bow or something!

Wake the kids or just watch how much you drink - I regularly drive 4 hours straight through

@Moonbabysmum, honestly I'd ignore the comments about "oh that's too long" etc. You are an adult. You have a contingency plan if you get tired. You are aware getting tired is possibility. Will your kids sleep through music-as I much prefer music to audiobooks/podcasts for driving at night. Enjoy your roadtrip!
BellatricksStrange · 17/01/2022 18:05

Will the kids not need to use the toilet too?

Scottishnewbie2022 · 17/01/2022 18:07

I think you’re overthinking this OP. Pee before you go and you’ll be fine.

oncemoreunto · 17/01/2022 18:11

A petrol station at a services should have a toilet you could very quickly use, leaving dc safely in the car on the forecourt.

Squills · 17/01/2022 18:12

Don’t drink loads peioe to your journey and pee before you go.

If you get caught out pull onto a layby and go there.

ShirleyPhallus · 17/01/2022 18:28

I cannot believe that people are suggesting tena lady / pads for the OP to just piss herself in the car. As if you’d do this and not just stop in a lay-by and have a wee by the side of the car

DuchessOfShithole · 17/01/2022 18:28

So much angst over nothing....I literally do this all the time.....

Wear a long coat or skirt
Stop in layby
Open front and back door of passenger side
Get in between the 2 doors
Wee in a paper cup, throw in grass (not the cup)
Wipe and put it in a nappy sack with paper cup to throw away at next opportunity
Use hand sanitiser

Done!

Or - if dark just squat between doors.

catfunk · 17/01/2022 18:34

I really wouldn't recommend not drinking water op, it's important to stay hydrated for fo concentrating so I'd sip water as I go.
Don't worry about weeing, just pull into a service station, park at the back and open a car door to shield you if necessary!
Good luck - you'll be fine !

lljkk · 17/01/2022 18:35

Wild wee in roadside bushes would be my plan.

Yes, was there not a pee troll who got off on the idea of women peeing into nappies in the car? I'd be careful about sharing your stories about being caught short! Just stop at services and wake the kids, it wouldn't cross my mind to do anything else.
wouldukissafrog · 17/01/2022 18:51

Drive these distances all the time with DD. Would never have thought to worry about this.

Need a wee - wake the kids

But surely you can hold it for that long??
