How do I pee in this situation?

I'm going on my first 'long' drive solo with my children (2.5 and 4.5) soon. I'm a relatively new driver, and its a 3.5-4hr drive, setting off early evening. The hope is that the children fall asleep on the way (amd stay asleep).

Obviously I'm going to need to stop off for at least 1 break, and will inevitably need to wee at some stage. I can't leave them in the car whilst I go to the services, and I really don't want to wake 2 dozy children/carry two kids in.

How do I pee?

Am I going to literally have to wee in a potty in a deserted part of the car park? 😳🤢

Am i missing a trick here?

@DappledThings

95% of the time I'm pleased that they aren't particularly early risers. This is one of the few exceptions 🙂

Getting them up and out to school/childcare for 9 is bad enough. They hate mornings even more than me, and I didnt think that was possible. They wouldn't fall back alseep and would be grumpy AF for the journey/day.

Its a backup if the packing goes tits up though!

Even reading this thread is making me want to pee.

Oh yes what @FusionChefGeoff posted. Also available at Amazon

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 17/01/2022 13:14

Also would need to go. I wouldn’t be able to go that long without drinking either - and at that time of day I’d want a cup of tea in the car to keep me awake!

She wee and long skirt I guess!

Maybe there should be drive through toilets (not sure how these would work mind) as well as drive through restaurants.

Maybe they look similar to a car wash, and you drive past the curtain, get out and pee etc.

😂

Life is too short for "just don't eat, drink or pee for four hours!"

This!

I wouldn’t go into a service station but maybe a petrol station?

Moonbabysmum · 17/01/2022 13:16

Men wouldn't think twice about this amd would just pee into a bush brazenly wouldn't they?

This is absolute, utter genius!

I used to regularly drive my 2 pre-schoolers 6 / 7 hours to Cornwall overnight to see family. I would just wake them up mid journey & take them into the services with me (buggy for younger one), they were always fine & went back off to sleep as soon as we set off again.
There was one horrible incident (after which I started taking the train) where I'd had too much red bull to try to stay awake and desperately needed the loo (not for a wee) when I found a petrol station, parked right in front of the window & used their loo leaving the kids asleep in the car. That wasn't ideal but we all made it...

elbea · 17/01/2022 13:23

A kiddiwhizz is what you need!

2bazookas · 17/01/2022 13:27

Pee , and don't drink, before departure. Surely you can last 4 hours?

If not, it's the she-wee in car.

Or, park in dark empty rural layby, open front and rear passenger doors. and squat between them.

TrojanWhore · 17/01/2022 13:30

Peeing into a nappy or inco-pad is probably the easiest to manage without being a contortionist.

Are you on motorways and at the mercy of service stations (with lights and people around, meaning you can't count on being alone even if you park at the far end by a hedge)? Or will you be able to pull off in to a more old-fashioned lay-by, where vegetation coverage is likely to be better?

ShirleyPhallus · 17/01/2022 13:31

@CMOTDibbler

I would avoid drinking anything, but also wear a skirt and take a ]] just in case. After breaking down at the side of the road and spending 2 hours desperate for a wee I always have one in the car now
Why didn’t you just wee in a bush /behind the car door?
BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 17/01/2022 13:31

If you are leaving straight after school then they won't sleep straight away surely?

Take them snacks, stickers and screens to pccupy them for the first 2.5 hrs. Then stop at a services for loos for all. Then back into the car, shoes off give them their usual bedtime teddies or comforters, and stick a nice audio book on the stereo.

GranolaHolmes · 17/01/2022 13:35

Had exactly this situation once.
Pulled my car into a corner of a service station car park.
Opened the passenger door for privacy and squatted next to the car with a long coat on.
Felt rather pleased with myself.

Moonbabysmum · 17/01/2022 13:35

Sadly we cant head off after school, so won't get on the road until just before 7.

Its mostly motorways/dual carriageways until the last half hour or so.

OK well I'd still follw the same routine and see if they will stay awake for the first half with distractions.

QueenJeanie · 17/01/2022 13:38

Pull into services, find a bush, have a pee

I often pee al fresco

Moonbabysmum · 17/01/2022 13:38

I'm just going to find a quiet spot and crouch down, or try to go all contortionist in the car, and not worry about it too much. Its just pee, I'm sure I wont be the first or the last.

I'll be discreet - I'm not going to crouch down I the middle of the carpark under a lampost or anything!

Genevie82 · 17/01/2022 13:39

Op, you will propably be able to hold on but it you get totally desperate basically you will have to pull over in a quiet country lane and find a bush with your car insight!! X

margegunderson · 17/01/2022 13:42

Presumably you can come off motorways? Just find a lay-by or a quiet bit of road and wee in the bushes. You can be within touching distance of your car at all times.

LakeShoreD · 17/01/2022 13:43

I’d try to take keep the kids awake for the first hour, which I wouldn’t expect to be that difficult, then stop at the services taking them with you. So they’ll stay up to 8pm ish which isn’t that late at all. Then you’ve only got 2.5-3 hours of driving left and surely you can manage that without a stop providing you don’t guzzle gallons of coffee.

Chemenger · 17/01/2022 13:52

Have you driven that far, in the dark, without a break before? I would find that very tiring.

saleorbouy · 17/01/2022 13:57

I don't understand why you can't just pull over and do a wee in a suitably discreet place, lay by, field gate entrance, or county lane.
My OH and kids manage it all the time. Open both doors on one side and perch on the door sill. Bring a pack of handy tissues to blot dry.

If you're not keen on that get a nappy of largish size and a nappy bag to store.

Sleepyquest · 17/01/2022 14:04

I don't know the answer but the people saying 4 hrs is not long enough to need to pee obviously don't have a small bladder like me!!
I think I would stop somewhere and pee in a bush, can't think of another option

sillysmiles · 17/01/2022 14:04

Open the passenger door and back door and crouch between them.
For a late drive I (personally) would need snacks and drinks for the drive - for me! And would also need to stop to stretch my legs.
Is there a Macdonalds or anything on your route?
