London fireworks

I thought the fireworks were amazing but was confused half the time with what was going on. It felt a bit all over the place - nevertheless I still enjoyed it but was just wondering if it was me that found it confusing?

@scurryfunger

For everyone confused about the ABBA connection. They reformed and made a comeback in 2021. I guess in a pretty non-eventful year this was a highlight - so playing ABBA songs was a nod to that.
But… they’re Swedish? What’s the UK connection?

Just watched it now on catch up. Was a bit wierd and underwhelming. Liked the chap at the beginning and his speech. Didn't like the choir. Expect more from the fireworks. Shame.

@SoupDragon

Hardly a nod, more of a full on head butt 😂

I still think the reformation of a Swedish pop band is an odd thing to celebrate in the London NY display.

Agreed! @SoupDragon and @ShirleyPhallus Acknowledging 10 anniversary of Londoner Amy Winehouse's passing would have been more apt

@Silverswirl

Can’t stand all the annoying cringy crap talking over the music. The best part of fireworks is how they fit into the music for me and what the mix of the music is saying. Music was disjointed and shit this year. Don’t want to hear some annoying voice blocking it all out! Also didn’t want to but away to the globe theatre. Although the choir were interesting to listen to (and I liked the auld Lang’s aye bit) it didn’t need to but from the fireworks to random ABBA songs just then
so agree.

I think it was a few years back they did fireworks to so great music like Rolling Stones and Stormzy, all British artists, it was really well done.

Didn't really like any of it - seemed very amateur and disjointed.

SoupDragon · 01/01/2022 13:06

Thinking about it, it was the fact that so many (all?) the songs were by ABBA. One in a medley of other relevant songs would have made sense to me.

AChickenCalledDaal · 01/01/2022 15:08

Also, the introduction was "ladies, gentlemen and non-binary folk" 🙄

Which made my eldest child smile and feel included.

Booklover3 · 01/01/2022 15:08

I didn’t realise there were any… I thought they cancelled it in October.

Is that why it was so poor?

Glassesdontsuitme · 01/01/2022 15:10

Think the Abba thing was reference to the big Abba show coming up in May?
