We have a bed being delivered on sunday, its just a single bed frame for the babies room as we still take it in turns to sleep in the same room as her..but just checked now and it can hold 100kg as its limit... I am over this by a couple of stone ..i do want to lose weight and i will once i have got my head in it but for now i am over! I would be sleeping in it 5 days per week do you think it will last for a while? Are all ingle beds like this? It wasnt too expensive so dont mind if it doesnt last yeara and years but would like it to last a few years if poss!

My daughters toddler bed held my (at the time) 20 stones. Don’t bounce on it but your weight evenly distributed across it won’t break it

Newbabynewhouse · 31/12/2021 22:44

@SilkLabrador

Yep correct! That's a pretty good weight limit isn't it..i mean they've been really generous! ...unfortunately, i'm still over that though...

If the bed hasn’t been delivered yet, you should see if you could swap it for something more suitable. Maybe a sofa bed (could be more useful in the long run, unless the single will become DC’s bed) or, if not, a divan.

If I was sleeping in it 5 nights a week I would want a comfortable bed not a make do that I was scared to move in.

Newbabynewhouse · 31/12/2021 22:49

Yes was kinda hoping it would become her bed when older.. but maybe won't last..hmmm...dont really want to.mess around cancelling order..i might do what a PP said and add extra slats 😱 how embarrassing...didn't think id be in this position 8 years ago when i was obsessed with being slim

A lot of things have a 100kg weight limit. Mean really, as a lot of people are over that weight.

My ex was and we bought some of those silly canvas stools at a fete, and it broke under him. Grin Then we saw that it said 100kg limit on the base. But they were only a fiver.

If you paid quite a bit for the bed, I don't think I'd risk it.

More motivation to lose the weight. x

CorpusCallosum · 31/12/2021 22:50

You have to factor in the weight of the mattress too so you will be well over. It won't break immediately but if you can I'd swap for something else rather than waste your money and treat it as a wake up call to address your weight.

Meant v kindly, I'm there with you too in the 'I'll loose weight when I'm in a better place club'. Good luck.

PurplePansy05 · 31/12/2021 22:51

Ok, so you are tall, I think this should help if you use it gently! If that was someone as short as me there'd be a crater no doubt Grin x

thebabessavedme · 31/12/2021 22:52

you'll be fine so long as you and dh don't get too 'friendly' Grin

kwiksavenofrillsusername · 31/12/2021 22:53

A lot of furniture has that weight limit. My sofa is apparently only able to hold 100kg x 2 people. But it’s held up fine! I think it’s a thing manufacturers put it on there so that if things break, they can claim it was your fault, rather than being shoddy.

Westfacing · 31/12/2021 22:56

As it's not yet delivered I'd cancel and order a divan.

DustyMaiden · 31/12/2021 22:56

I have been using an IKEA day bed with slats for the past decade. Just checked 100 kg limit. I weigh 16 stone. No problems.

lunar1 · 31/12/2021 22:57

You'll probably be fine, there will be a manufactured leeway in the calculation, you don't need to deduct 25% for the mattress or they would say that.

Be mindful how you sit down and get up-slowly. Don't kneel on the bed. We f it's an ikea one, the slats are crap, the frames are fine so just add some extra slats.

You are also quite tall so that will spread the weight out more.

Chouetted · 31/12/2021 22:58

It might be the slats - but definately get another bed. You don't want to be interogating guests about their weight.

I broke a slatted single bed by having sex in it.

OnTheBoardwalk · 31/12/2021 23:02

I had slat bed as teenager and it was a nightmare

Wasn’t so much overall weight limit but how I sat and got myself out of bed that as the issue and broke the slats

I think the weight limit and moving around with baby will be an issue. Can you cancel and change?

Other option is to put some board over the slats but believe me that’s really uncomfortable

@EmKayEm

Hang on... 5ft 8" and 230lb +? I would be more worried about getting to the 16th birthday before worrying about the bed.
Helpful Hmm I'm 5ft 10 and heavier than that and not keeling over any time soon at a size 16
squeamishmishsqueam · 31/12/2021 23:18

@EmKayEm

So mean

SarahJessicaParker1 · 31/12/2021 23:22

Ah don't listen to that nasty comment op. Just some pathetic troll. I've reported them, as clearly a troll doing their best to be as hurtful and unpleasant as possible. Feel sorry for them.

Bmi of 35ish clearly isn't ideal, as op has repeatedly said and she is working on it.
