We have a bed being delivered on sunday, its just a single bed frame for the babies room as we still take it in turns to sleep in the same room as her..but just checked now and it can hold 100kg as its limit... I am over this by a couple of stone ..i do want to lose weight and i will once i have got my head in it but for now i am over! I would be sleeping in it 5 days per week do you think it will last for a while? Are all ingle beds like this? It wasnt too expensive so dont mind if it doesnt last yeara and years but would like it to last a few years if poss!

I think you'll be okay. I regularly lie in my children's beds with them and I'm sure our combined weights are over 100kg. They both are the slatted type and a couple of slats have broken but that happened when they were walking/jumping on them, not when anyone was lying down.

Slatted beds are crap. If it’s a bed with a sturdy base it shouldn’t be a problem though.

100kg just means that that's what the bed is tested to -it's not going to collapse the minute anything heavier goes on it

It's like pushchairs say they take up to 15kg but by the time you've got a 2 year old in there, a changing bag, and a bit of shopping you are probably way over the limit but most people would think twice about doing that

Alpenguin · 31/12/2021 23:33

I’ve slept in my youngest’s cotbed when I was 100kg (steroid weight before the fatist comments kick in) and it creaked a bit but survived remarkably well. Unless it’s a really flimsy bed you should be ok for a while. You could strengthen the weakest parts with some
Mdf under slats and some metal rods along the length but only if you felt it wasn’t taking your weight… and Just don’t jump on it or throw yourself down on it.

Failing that a mattress on the floor.

Well said @TerriblyNaice SmileWine

CornishTiger · 31/12/2021 23:34

I’ve slept in a single bed which wasn’t a specialist weight for nearly 2 years. I’m much heavier than you. It’ll prob be fine!

@SilkLabrador

100kg is approximately 15 stone that's a pretty good weight limit
Why did you think this was helpful?
gavisconismyfriend · 31/12/2021 23:44

@EmKayEm So here’s the thing. It will have taken a lot for OP to post honestly about her weight. She already knows she is overweight and has said she intends to work on it when she can. Your comment offers nothing that is positive or helpful, it’s just unkind. Is that really how you want to behave towards others?

100% this. We are all (hopefully) adults here. Why spend new years eve being the mean girl making up nasty comments to a stranger in the internet?

I suppose school girl bullies never go away, they are just unkind in other walks of life.

OP ignore the nasties.

Newbabynewhouse · 31/12/2021 23:52

@EmKayEm

🤣 what a sad life you must have to comment that on NYE on a post about a bed... i feel sorry for you, bad upbringing? Depressing life? I am successful, I have a lovely little little girl, my own house, loving partner, friends and family and i carry my weight really well.. i have massive boobs and a small waist and am pretty happy with my life obviously unlike yourself ..will still get back to the gym though as i know id be healthier lighter... but like a pp said, at least i can lose weight and stay a nice person ..personality transplants aren't a thing unfortunately! Happy new year!!! 😁

Just sleep in the bed. It’s a guide. If it breaks, replace it with something else but you say you aren’t worried about the cost, so just try it and see.
I’ve over weighted my sun lounger for three years. It’s fine

Reinforce the bed, put stronger slats in and if they are free moving slats, screw them down. Make and add extra slats or get someone else to if you don't know how.

People saying sleep on a mattress on the floor - PLEASE don't do this as dampness builds up underneath and eventually rots the carpet down to the underlay and the smell in terrible. It breeds bacteria to sleep on a mattress on the floor. That's why people have beds!

NannaMcPhoo · 01/01/2022 00:22

That's silly though. If the limit is 100, and a regular mattress weighs 25, then any person would need to be at most 75 kg. It's not exactly uncommon for a man to be 80-85, especially if they have a little muscle

I am guessing they will have already accounted for the mattress weight and are only quoting maximum user weight.

Fuck that is grim but most people would be moving the mattress for usual room cleaning before it got anywhere near that state.

IncessantNameChanger · 01/01/2022 00:53

I have recently put loads of weight on ( it think its fluid but no luck with any cause via the gp).

I'm proberly not far off your weight and no issues sleeping on my kids ancient slatted single bed. Or the toddler bed ( God forbid it's too short but needs must some times)

NauseousNancy · 01/01/2022 01:00

God people are dicks about weight. Is it any wonder women feel constantly shite about themselves and like they are only worth something if they are slim?

I recon it’ll be fine. If you are worried slide the mattress onto the floor.

And don’t listen to arseholes telling you to address your weight. You clearly have a child that doesn’t sleep well, you must be shattered. More important things in life for you than weight loss - take care xx

tcjotm · 01/01/2022 01:05

Careful with divan beds, a lot of them still have a slatted base.

Apparently the trick with slats is whether they are just plain wood vs those glued layer ones. The layer ones are supposed to be a lot stronger.

I weigh more than you and did a tonne of research on this recently as I was thinking 2 single beds instead of one king.

I think you’ll be fine so long as you aren’t jumping around. Plenty of young people have sex in single beds and never seemed to worry 😂

StillMedusa · 01/01/2022 01:07

We put laminate boards (spare from doing the living room) on DS2's bed after he broke every single slat! He's a 12 stone bloke but has autism and slams himself down with incredible force! I'm pretty sure his bed would have had the 100kg limit but with a little extra reinforcement it's held up fine!
Don't over think it :) If you aren't leaping on it, it will be ok!

BrocolliHamster · 01/01/2022 02:14

I've found on slatted beds that if they have plastic slat holders they tend to break - this happened to my old double bed and I was 80kg at the time. If the slats screw in I doubt any would break as long as your not flinging yourself onto the bed.

Also don't use mdf to replace slats if one breaks, it's much bendier than wood.

Could a metal bed frame be a better option?

immersivereader · 01/01/2022 02:24

You'll be reet, op

Happy New Year!
