How's your Christmas Day going?

JohnSmithDrive · 25/12/2021 11:09

When I got back to the car after parkrun, I had a completely flat tyre. Feeling accomplished to have sorted it myself though Smile

When I got home I had to take the plunger to the toilet.

What's next?

Thank you @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie

We got one another through a really pivotal and difficult time in both our lives when we were a lot younger. I’ll always be grateful he was there.

Nc123 · 25/12/2021 13:12

Good! Though we are all pretty tired, having been up since 5:45.

DS1 is thrilled with his new Kindle and has already read his Beano annual. DS2 had asked for a puppy for Christmas, which we explained that we couldn’t get, but we got him the halter neck midriff dance top and showgirl headdress he wanted instead, and he’s delighted. They asked to ring their uncle in Italy to show him all their new toys. DH got me some lovely gifts including books and chocolate and no plastic smellies sets, so I’m happy, and he is absolutely made up with his personalised chopsticks, smart watch and Bluetooth beanie.

Don’t get me wrong, with the tiredness, we’ve been a bit snappy from time to time but it was over quick. And nothing can spoil Christmas Day.

Ijustwouldnt · 25/12/2021 13:13

@YenniferOfVengaBus sorry for your loss. Flowers

Largethighsbadeyes · 25/12/2021 13:18

Very nice! Smile DD very happy and grateful for all the presents even the stocking fillers like new duvet cover, woolly hat and gloves, books. Absolutely thrilled with main presenta of scooter and slush puppy machine.

Off to my sisters for Xmas Dinner in a bit.

RagzReturnedUnwrapped · 25/12/2021 13:27

Pretty chilled so far. Up at 8am (DD11 set an alarm and brought me coffee!) watched the kids open their stocking presents on my bedroom floor while I sat in bed drinking coffee. Decided we didn't want breakfast too early so did other presents downstairs, then smoked salmon or bacon and scrambled eggs for breakfast with Bucks fizz all round (very weak for DD!).

Watched the cats play with their presents for ages. Had a bath. Cleaned up. Peeled the rest of the veg. Meat was cooked yesterday by DH while I was at work, so not too much to do and we eat Christmas Dinner at dinner time so no rush.

DSIiL and her family are popping over shortly to do gifts. I'm drinking water and avoiding the rest of the Bucks fizz until they get here!

YenniferOfVengaBus · 25/12/2021 13:28

Thank you @Ijustwouldnt

Undecidedandtorn · 25/12/2021 13:32

It's going well - am spending it with my ex and our two kids. Eldest told me he wasn't happy with one of his presents (whatever) but everything else seemed popular. Im doing veg and ex is doing turkey and will do a call to my mum who is with my brother today

PixieAndTheToad · 25/12/2021 13:48

Aweful. Fil is being a selfish dick. Some others in the family are trying to make us all bend around him and causing distress for the rest. Gift opening went horribly, totally joyless chaos and waste of all the time and energy that had gone into it. DH is being wonderful as always, but is getting so stressed out, I'm holding him now while he naps, hopefully he will feel better afterwards.
They think we'll travel twice as far next year to spend Christmas with them again. But we are never doing this again. I won't spend the holidays with people who ignore and upset my husband.

MissConductUS · 25/12/2021 13:51

Fine. I was up early. I'm making holiday mashed with sour cream and cream cheese, always a hit. Everyone else is still asleep or in bed.

It's raining, but we're not going anywhere today.

TowandaForever · 25/12/2021 13:53

@IcedAbstinente

I had the most amazing present from the Dcs - a silver bracelet with a seaglass pendant on it. They know I adore seaglass and marched DH to the shop to buy it for me. :)

I also got some bells for Number One dog. She's almost blind and i had said i wanted bells to hold and ring for when we went on our walks so she knows where I am.

I am thrilled as both things were something I had mentioned at some point casually (not with gifts in mind) and the Dcs and DH remembered. :)

I'd love to see it. Fellow sea glass fan here!
IpanemaPeaHen · 25/12/2021 13:53

So far so covid Smile. We are having a quiet one because of positive tests and it’s quite chilled really…

TowandaForever · 25/12/2021 13:56

@Stretchandsnap

Up early and everyone delighted with their presents, took the pooch for a walk and have somehow pinched a nerve in my hip - so painful! Everyone gone for a pre-Christmas dinner walk and I am stuck at home on the sofa. Luckily I did most of the prep yesterday so I can conduct operations from the sofa (with a glass of champagne) we eat Christmas dinner late, so will gobble around and get the nibbles ready
Punched a nerve not bursitis?
Libertybauble · 25/12/2021 14:02

Pretty crap tbh. Got some lovely gifts from DH and dc but have awful PMT that usually hits me hard for 24 hours, feel so tearful and tense and absolutely desperate just to be alone. DH making dinner and tbh I just want to climb into bed, wish the day was over. Trying so hard to be smily and happy for kids but they know something is wrong which makes me feel even worse.

Not the best Xmas day overall.

MrsBerthaRochester · 25/12/2021 14:08

Knackered and stressed. was just about to go to bed at 2am when I get a call from the police asking me if I will take my dds friend for the night as her mother drunk and there had been a physical fight. Have had about two hours sleep and am now worried about this girls home life.

DragonMamma · 25/12/2021 14:19

Really chilled and lovely here.

DCs (14 and 11) were up about 7ish - a very nice hour or two of present opening followed by a full English. Then I had a nap as went a bit too wild last night on the champagne - back up and dressed now and am just sorting dinner out with a G&T with white Christmas on in the background.

Will probably eat about 4ish so no rushing around

Etherealhedgehog · 25/12/2021 14:23

DD (15mo) was up at 4am and then 5.20 but DP let me have a lie in so I can't complain. We got through about half of her presents and all of ours, then to the playground for her to toddle herself to a state of exhaustion. Beans on toast for lunch and then she went down for a nap and we packed and cleaned so we can set off to my parents as soon as she wakes up. Now chilling on the sofa and wondering whether it would be madness to wake her at half 2 considering she'll probably stay up late and get very excited with Christmas dinner at 6pm!

JennyForeigner · 25/12/2021 14:25

My MIL bought son YET ANOTHER pair of lederhosen. She isn't german.

FML.

bunnyboilerx · 25/12/2021 14:27

Crap. DC seem to be having a good day though so that's good. Might just crack open the wine.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 25/12/2021 14:30

Not too bad considering

I have everything sort of organised for dinner which will be later tonight .

DH has Covid
DS had a positive LFT (and unwell) waiting on his PCR

I couldn't taste the pistachio nuts I was scoffing so I stopped eating them
The soft drink I had last night tasted funny ( tasted like sugar free but it isn't ) but tastebuds are being weird

DS and DD liked their presents ( both adults) .
DH and I don;t buy each other presents

DH is watching various TV tat but he knows he has to give up the remote for Eastenders Xmas Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 25/12/2021 14:33

MeanderingGently · 25/12/2021 14:34

Best Christmas ever!
I have to work on Christmas day so the family did all our Christmas during the week. It means I have done all the driving, visiting, swapping presents, afternoon tea, light trails and EVERYTHING already.
Finished my house jobs/cleaning yesterday. Have already been into work today, it was a lovely atmosphere and we got to leave early.
Now I have my place to myself....peace and quiet, nice food, will watch TV in my PJs. Absolutely loving it! No chattering relatives, no arguments over presents, no boring conversations with folks I only see once a year. It's very selfish I know, but I'm having a perfect Christmas....

middleager · 25/12/2021 14:34

I woke up at 3.47am and vomited continuously.
I don't normally drink Bailey's, but DH made 4 large doubles. That'll do it.

At 9am I did a LFT, one of the down your throat ones, which made me retch again! Negative.

Finally feeling human again.

Brilliant. Kids have opened and played with everything. Food is amazing. Kids are living life. So are we

Pretty good all things considered! My DD is 4 and in hospital having chemo. She got loads of pressies from Santa NHS 🎅 and we both got a lovely Christmas dinner! Trying to persuade her to have a snooze now so I can have one too 😆
