I’m not going to be alone on Christmas Day but if I was I would absolutely love a whole day to myself , I’d watch all old films that I love and never ever get chance to watch, maybe eggs Benedict for breakfast and a proper Christmas lunch followed by Black Forest gateaux with single cream x Hope you enjoy every single moment OP x

@AtleastitsnotMonday

OP if you want cod in bacon make it yourself. It’s really easy to do and delicious!
Is it as easy as wrapping a cod fillet in bacon and baking...? That's about as advanced as my culinary skills are!

@AdaColeman

I'll be on my own, I'm having

Pastries from the Polish bakery for breakfast.

For lunch ~ Veal steak with sage butter and bitter leaf salad. Followed by Pear Belle Helene.

For Supper ~ Selection of smoked fish, potato salad and Waldorf salad. Probably something like mince pie or Yule log later on.

Wow! This sounds decadent and luxurious. Perfect Xmas Smile

Mushrooms on toast?
I'm intrigued! Are they just fried or something special?

pigsinblanketsrule · 19/12/2021 19:06

More or less OP, I'd use parma ham or prosciutto though, not bacon.

heidbuttsupper · 19/12/2021 19:07

Hi @Misty9 dining alone here! I have been thinking about getting lots of the M&S party foods and doing a buffet for one, plus nice bottle of fizz and some Baileys. Reading this thread has made me want a beef wellington though!

Greenrubber · 19/12/2021 19:07

Whne I was on my own Xmas day I always cooked a ham and beef joint in the slow cooker on Xmas eve and had roast potatoes and some lovely veg (vegan now tho)
Not on my own now but we are having a beyond meat Wellington and all the trimmings which I am really looking forward too

Thank you. I get quite a lot of days to do that though... Might just get hammered on mulled wine and pass out before the queen's speech GrinWine

Buy a cod loin and wrap in parma ham, OP. Easy peasy.

Do it! Alas most party food is out for me as I'm gf, df and god knows what else free... But this thread is giving me lots of inspiration!

@Misty9

Is anyone else actually going to be dining solo on Christmas day...?
Yes I am - my choice. My DC are with their father and we will celebrate Christmas with my family when they come home. I am looking forward to the peace and quiet.

I shall probably cook a mini roast for 1.

I couldnt find a hotel I fancied for solo travel, so would love to hear more details - hope you get to go @SeaDreaming

pigsinblanketsrule · 19/12/2021 19:11

I hope you have a nice day OP. Why don't you google cod and parma ham recipe and plan cooking something to a recipe - might slow down your drinking 😂.

Like this sort of thing.

onelostsoulswimminginafishbowl · 19/12/2021 19:12

I will be dining alone! I am not in the UK (can't get back because of covid) and there is not a massive amount of good party food here. I will be popping the prosecco and making myself a platter for one! It's summer here so I will have oysters and smoked salmon, cheeses, bread, pate and whatever other goodies I can find. Mainly prosecco though 😁

Yes, I will be eating alone for the millionth time in a row - egg rolls for breakfast, East African style chicken curry with ugali for lunch and crusty white bread, cheese and pickles for evening 'top up'.

Going to keep busy during the day by carrying on with the plastering/decorating project which is currently on the go!

sansucre · 19/12/2021 19:25

I've always spent Christmas Day by myself. I see it as an opportunity to eat exactly what I want.

This year I'm having cantonese duck and pancakes which will give plenty of leftovers to pick at over the following days. Pudding is still undecided as yet, possibly profiteroles, a homemade chocolate roulade or both.

Breakfast smoked salmon blinis although I have a good stash of pigs in blankets too, so expect it will be a two course start to the day!

Nat6999 · 19/12/2021 19:29

When I have been on my own I have bought lots of luxury food that I can just get out what I fancy & it not take much preparing. I usually have a large prawn cocktail at lunchtime & then things like something from party ranges for tea. I always have smoked salmon & scrambled eggs for breakfast on Christmas day.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 19/12/2021 19:33

My dsis does every year. She usually hits Waitrose late on. The last time I think it was half a lobster, some posh cheesy thing and pud for about a fiver.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/12/2021 19:36

@Greenrubber
Probably nice mushrooms, black garlic, wine, cream and nice sourdough bread. Always tastes like a treat and as much cooking as I could be bothered with if just me eating.

margoletta · 19/12/2021 19:38

If one was dining alone and in need of really good black forest gateau... where might one get one @Wineandroses3?

Preferably in single portions so I don't eat a whole cake Blush Cake

margoletta · 19/12/2021 19:39

Actually, I just want mushrooms on toast now! Thank you @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie!

HDready · 19/12/2021 19:41

A lot of the co-op party food is gluten free, not sure about dairy free though. Same for M&S. Enjoy!

userxx · 19/12/2021 19:42

I'd go with baked Camembert, crusty bread, salami, olives and Black Forest gateau.
