Looking for inspiration! So far I'm thinking, cheese, nice crisps, and chocolate... Grin

Steak and beef dripping chips.

NMC2022 · 19/12/2021 19:52

Alone here, I'm having an Indian takeaway that my dad is dropping off (long story but I'm CEV and can't go for the meal in the restaurant)
Having
Onion bhajis
Chicken tikka tandoori
Garlic naan
Poppadoms

Also making apple crumble with Apple strudel mincemeat so will have some of that, got some garlic pita chips and hummus as well

Iguessyourestuckwithme · 19/12/2021 19:58

I'm making cinnamon whirls for brunch with a pot of tea.

I have yummy crisps and chocolate to much on.

Then I have bought a finest fish pie which I could have with cabbage and carrots followed by a gingerbread bomb with caramel sauce and custard.

However I'm also leaning on a beef brisket from M&S with roast potatoes and red cabbage. Can pop out christmas eve if I'm still craving this.

@Misty9

Is anyone else actually going to be dining solo on Christmas day...?
Yes. I'm doing Christmas alone this year. 3rd one in the last 4 years.

I am single and my estranged from my family.

I have been invited to a distant relatives but I know I need some time to myself on Christmas day and I won't be the best company.

beastlyslumber · 19/12/2021 20:06

I'm GF and DF also (if you're DF I don't recommend the camembert, tbh!) I haven't decided what I'm having yet. Probably won't bother with breakfast. Dinner... rack of lamb? If I feel like cooking it. Maybe a prawn cocktail starter. Feels a bit seventies! Whatever I have I will be setting the table and having a glass of wine with my meal. I've got some nice cured meats and some smoked salmon, so lots to choose from.

I am. I haven't decided what I'm having yet though. Depends what's in the shops when I go on Tuesday.

I'm leaning towards a bacon egg and mushrooms for lunch and a big bag of M&S crisps for scoffing in one go grazing throughout the day like a lady.
Oh and a couple of M&S big chocolate eclairs.

Misty9 · 19/12/2021 20:15

I think I'll add prawn cocktail to my menu - I'm lactose free and couldn't remember if camembert is high or low in lactose... 😬 Might have to give that one away then!

OP posts:
beastlyslumber · 19/12/2021 20:25

I don't know about the lactose situation, sorry. I can't have dairy but I do eat butter. If I were going to have cheese it would be something like a very mature, hard cheddar, as that is what I'd be best able to tolerate. Not sure if that's to do with lactose or something to do with how its made - sometimes people get on okay with fermented dairy like kefir or stuff like yoghurt. I think camembert would destroy me!

Sorry, bit of a derail there. Can highly recommend a prawn cocktail, though! I might have some cashew nuts for a snack. Don't generally have them in the house because of my inability not to eat the whole tub in one go...

Iamanicepersonreally · 19/12/2021 20:35

I'm on my own for Christmas. I'm having a bacon sandwich, strong tea and nice orange juice for breakfast.

For the rest of the day... Baguette, pate, Caesar salad, coleslaw, nice cheese, pork pie, nice ham, crisps. Possibly a prawn cocktail and a couple of mince pies. And a nice bottle of wine.
I hope you enjoy your day OP 🌲

BewareTheRedNosedDragon · 19/12/2021 20:46

Not exactly alone but my autistic ds will prob not join me at the actual table so I feel like I will be.

Thinking nice steak and chips, samphire, roast Brussels and bacon for lunch. I have an individual Xmas pudding (ds hates them) and will also have chocolate cake with praline filling available...

Breakfast chocolate croissants.

Don't know about tea.

Pombearsforthewin · 19/12/2021 21:02

Also flying solo. Early walk then smoked salmon & scrambled eggs, washed down with the first of a few glasses of champagne. Then late afternoon early evening the whole Turkey dinner shebang. I can time it for when I want to eat, without anyone being passive aggressive about how many roasties I’m eating. Best of all I make enough for left overs and then some. Bliss!

Misty9 · 19/12/2021 21:19

I confess I have already bought a medium sized Christmas pud - the individual ones are just tooo small Grin

Steak and chips does sound tasty!

SortingItOut · 19/12/2021 21:58

I'm kind of alone Xmas Day (25yr old DS is at home but will be in his room🙄)

We're having Indian takeaway🤤
Plus lots of chocolate

Camembert is high in lactose, the softer the texture the higher it is.

Luredbyapomegranate · 19/12/2021 22:27

@AlbertBridge

Nothing I could choke on. Having to Heimlich myself over the back of a chair, Liz Lemon style, would put a downer on my day.

The one time I did spend Christmas Day on my own (during the swine flu pandemic), I got shitfaced on a slice of boozy Christmas cake, fell over, smashed my face into the stairs and got a nosebleed.

🎉

I have nearly choked on a flippin Cornetto laughing when reading this

You are a choke hazard @AlbertBridge Grin

I discovered trays of tiny mini beef wellingtons in aldi party food this week. They were delicious!! And I'm sure about half the price of M and s too. I had some for a party this weekend and would definitely have again.

EBearhug · 19/12/2021 22:36

I'm single and have had Christmas alone a few times. I get a small turkey crown and do the full works, and then live off leftovers for a few days. I even put down a table cloth and get the best silver out. I like traditional Christmas dinner, and I don't see why I should go without just because I'm on my own.

Nat6999 · 20/12/2021 01:30

I eat all mine in front of the television, have the TV guide next to me, throw all the pots in the dishwasher & go to bed around 7.00pm in my new pjs to watch all the soaps & Call the Midwife & the big film. Get up on Boxing Day & do it all again

Thanks for the recommendation! Think I will head there too
SnowBrussels · 20/12/2021 13:24

Doing a scaled down version of the works with a turkey breast and a tiny plum pudding, just enough for 2 days, and making an effort to decorate.
Starting the day with a Baileys coffee, bacon and egg sandwich and good orange juice. The Prosecco, red wine and port is already in and I’m planning what to watch/record.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 20/12/2021 14:34

@AtleastitsnotMonday

OP if you want cod in bacon make it yourself. It’s really easy to do and delicious!
Cod in Bacon It’s best when the bacon is lovely and crisp all the way round. I often use Parma ham as it’s thinner and crisps quicker. If using bacon it’s a good idea to thin it out a bit by putting the bacon between cling film and giving it a bit of a bash. Then lay out the bacon or ham in a sheet by over lapping then roll around cod, secure with a cocktail stick. I usually get mine from the fish counter and ask for a thick fillet. Then I just pop it in a hot pan for a couple of minutes each side to get it crisp then transfer to the oven.
IcedAbstinente · 20/12/2021 14:43

When I had a solo Christmas I made for me and the dogs prawn avocado cocktail; marinated roasted chicken thighs with trimmings and christmas pudding icecream.

It was lovely. Except that one of the dogs rolled on his prawns instead of eating them. Cue Christmas bubble bath.

It was actually a lovely dinner. I could eat exactly what I wanted and watched all the cheesy films I wanted to watch as well. Plus I got hammered on a good red. Happy Days.

IcedAbstinente · 20/12/2021 14:44

(the dogs did not have the avocado, or the icecream just to be clear).

I'm working on Xmas day 😞 so I'm having a party tea. Mini sausages, cheese rolls, crisps, onion rings, prawn sandwiches might even bang some cheese and pickled onions on some cocktail sticks. Just picky bits really. And lots of chocolate for pudding.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 20/12/2021 15:32

I'd cook a roast chicken for myself (did this a lot when I lived alone). Along with dauphinoise potatoes, some stuffing, and a couple of veg side from M&S. That way I'd get to enjoy gorgeous sandwiches with the leftovers the nest day.

I'd have a delicious shop bought dessert too.
