Is your Christmas tree coordinated glory or a mismatch of decorations from the years?

Ours is so random, some from my mum, friends’gifts, dh’s kids favourite baubles. It doesn’t match….

Coordinated but with memories

We buy a new bauble every year, but as the tree is mostly red and white, most Christmas baubles have red in them, so we choose those.

I could tell you when / where I got most of the baubles from... but to an outsider, it would look coordinated

drspouse · 19/12/2021 09:27

The DCs are of the More Is More school of thought!

Keladrythesaviour · 19/12/2021 09:29

Mismatch! We pick up decorations every year from places we visit, or catch our eye so the tree is full of memories. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Ours is mismatched as baubles have been added to over the years. I like it that way as many of them bring back memories. I like too that now dgs is here we can play "can you find a snowman/Santa Claus/Swan/Bell etc on Granny's tree?" I love that he finds it completely bizarre that there is a Christmas tree on Granny's tree and it makes him laugh and we are building more memories for years to come.

Gloriously mismatched! I collect vintage baubles, especially Czech glass ones from the 1950s. They're on the tree, as well as old decorations from my DM and grandparents, plus ones the children have made / bought.

I find matchy themed trees quite sterile looking, but each to their own!

Lalallama · 19/12/2021 09:37

One of my pupils said he wouldn't be able to take his school-made decoration home this year as it would clash with the family's colour coordinated Christmas theme. Such a pity.

This is so sad. One of DS's little friends said he couldn't ask for an Arsenal duvet cover from Santa as his mum said it wouldn't match his room.

KurtWildesChristmasNamechange · 19/12/2021 09:47

I couldn't find the star for the top of our tree so ours has a Santa gonk sat on top this year 😂

Justcannotbearsed · 19/12/2021 10:03

We had a toy rabbit for years on top of the tree, with a bit of tinsel draped over an ear. Nothing says Christmas like a toy rabbit.

We have a tree in the front room which is coordinated. We have a tree in the family/dining/every day room which is a complete mismatch of things made by DD over the years and things given to me by children at work over the years.

NoToast · 19/12/2021 10:33

Mismatch. I cherish the first plastic baubles I bought second hand from a charity shop when I found a tree in my rented houses attic and had barely any money. Today there's a whole mess of stuff. Decorations DC made, from places we've travelled a couple of new things every year. The tree tells our story.

TheLeadbetterLife · 19/12/2021 10:35

Mismatched, some of the baubles are older than me. I don’t like themed trees and coordination, I don’t want my home to look like a shop window.

thatsallineed · 19/12/2021 10:51

We've now got such a huge collection of decorations we can do a theme and still have plenty of lovely ones with loads of memories on it. This year we've gone for silver and white, with a few odd bits of green and blue here and there, with white lights and holly tinsel. From where I'm sitting right now I can see baubles I bought a week ago, some we've had for a few years, and the rest have memories attached going right back to my childhood in the 1960's.

The boxes of decorations I put back in the loft after we'd finished decorating it are still three-quarters full so loads of options for next year!

saddowizca · 19/12/2021 11:03

Joyful chaos here, and all the baubles are high hopes because of our pup. I like white fairy lights, silver and turquoise tinsel and an eclectic range of baubles.

sueelleker · 19/12/2021 12:17

Mine's not deliberately co-ordinated, but since I like gold and silver most of my baubles are those colours. They're just ones I've bought when I particulaly liked them.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 19/12/2021 14:01

Mine is very traditional with old fashioned wooden ornaments, one or two relics from when the kids were little, a couple inherited from my childhood tree that i rescued when mum died. Its a very comforting tree.

Mismatched and I love it.

HereticFanjo · 19/12/2021 14:50

Random much loved bits.

BogRollBOGOF · 19/12/2021 15:13

Random. Started nearly 20 years ago with cheap baubles and have gradually added through the years to the point of buying a second tree last year to accommodate them. I started with rich jewel colours so most goes with that really.

The little lounge tree has the more random, individual decorations and the home made ones. The DCs have also adorned it with Lego, festive headbands and a Stick Man Grin

The bigger tree in the conservatory is more classic, but we spend less time with it, and tend to see it through the house.

thickthighs73 · 19/12/2021 15:17

Love the tree pics! Determined to get mine done by Christmas Eve!

bcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyza · 19/12/2021 15:22

Prelit fake tree here, the tinsel is the only organised pink gold alternating. The baubles are mixture of handmade and sentimental ones and a god awful thing my husband wants in the tree.

ItsSunnyOutside · 19/12/2021 15:48

Completely mismatched and love it!

Bigassbeebuzzbuzz · 19/12/2021 15:54

Its completely mismatched various odd baubles from packs that have broken, homemade from when dcs were little and I always let dc decorate except for the lights.
I was never allowed as a child or any baubles I did put on were in the wrong place so I leave it exactly as the dc have decorated it. Bloody hell I can't keep my house organized all year never mind a tree that's only up a couple of weeks Xmas Grin

Naimee87 · 19/12/2021 15:55

A crazy wonderful christmassy mess! Baubles from my schools days and wacky decorations made by my DS at school! Love it wouldn't have any other way!

WeAllHaveWings · 19/12/2021 16:09

Mismatched and lots of them that have accumulated over 30+ years, but mostly the traditional warm colours such as golds, greens and reds with coloured lights - red, green, white, maybe yellow (I think).

Need lots of them to hide the rather pathetic 20+ year old tree under them!

riotlady · 19/12/2021 20:54

Ours is semi colour co-ordinated because I don’t like baubles that aren’t Christmassy, so all of ours are red, green, gold, silver or wood. But there’s no system or deliberate matching beyond that.
