Is your Christmas tree coordinated glory or a mismatch of decorations from the years?

Ours is so random, some from my mum, friends’gifts, dh’s kids favourite baubles. It doesn’t match….

Mine is decorated with two main colours and a few sentimental bits. My kids take turns to choose the colours each year. Of course with the standard multi-coloured flashing lights. My mums tree was always like this too so I smile when I feel like I’ve “pulled it off”.

MarshaBradyo · 18/12/2021 21:30

Liberty baubles over the years

I can’t stand it if one smashes, esp since they seem to have gone down hill and do more trinket style

Spitspotsput · 18/12/2021 21:31

Mine is perfect. I definitely don’t add random decorations like a Christmas skeleton and Christmas giant spider.🪆

Our main tree is random baubles etc collected over many years , we always add a couple each year , this year it’s an ostrich with a scarf and a fuzzy rhino with sparkly feet ( from Longleat ) . We also have a tree that only has Swarovski Christmas ornaments on as we have a friend who has been gifting the yearly ornament to us for the last 30yrs . The small tree in our home office is all small baubles in red / green / gold .

woodhill · 18/12/2021 21:33

I have 2 sets, white, blue and silver this year or green, red and gold

I want to buy some more decorations as there are definitely more of the latter category

I've ditched the tinsel this year

EwwSprouts · 18/12/2021 21:33

Mismatched. Decorations inherited, made by DS when younger, bought on holidays, gifted etc. You may think it gaudy, we think it's lovely.

ImInStealthMode · 18/12/2021 21:34

Ours doesn't match at all. We buy a decoration from every new country or city we visit, so there's no co-ordination or theme at all but I love it.

I think co-ordinated matchy trees can look lovely but a bit sterile.

CorsicaDreaming · 18/12/2021 21:38

@popcorndiva

Complete mismatch or as I like to say maximist.

It has different coloured tinsels, lots of pretty baubles which all represent something, twinkly lights which I have set to rotating rainbow and a massive rainbow star.

Really like the festive dinosaur decoration!
HelpINeeedSomebody · 18/12/2021 21:38

Total co-ordination here.
I remember even as a child hating the multicoloured mismatched 80s Christmas tree we had and I longed for the day when I could decorate my own tree in exactly the way I wanted.

My girls have their own multicoloured tree with everything on and mine is cream, gold and red.
They say they love leaving me to do the downstairs and coming down/or in from school to see the house transformed but who knows they'll probably go the other way again when they grow up and have crazy mismatched trees.
Tis the way these things go.

Jemimapuddleduk · 18/12/2021 21:39

A glorious, bright, gaudy mismatched beauty! Love it.

Where is the canvas of the queen in the background from? Perfect for my downstairs toilet!!

I always feel like coordinated trees are a missed opportunity for creativity, joy and sentimentality. I really enjoy seeing a tree with literally everything heaped on it, it looks warm and welcoming.
One of my pupils said he wouldn't be able to take his school-made decoration home this year as it would clash with the family's colour coordinated Christmas theme. Such a pity.

Svara · 18/12/2021 21:41

First tree in the UK last year, starting from scratch so all coordinated.

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 18/12/2021 21:43

It’s perfectly possible to have a creative, joyful and sentimental tree that still manages to be coordinated.

thecatsthecats · 18/12/2021 21:45

@KrispyKale

Mismatch. When we started and it was more tasteful it felt a bit lacking.
Mismatched IS tasteful. Matchy matchy is for shop windows, not home trees.

My decoration collection is worth hundreds, built up over the years.

Pegasussnail · 18/12/2021 21:46

We've a bit of a rubbish fake tree this year but i have gold co-ordinated decorations (from Brown Thomas etc some pricey)

But the kids room is a mix of tree decorations eg felt birds. Avocado. Home made. Paper chain. Random Mr men hanging toys from McDonald's

It's lovely to be fair.

Strokethefurrywall · 18/12/2021 21:49

Our is this horrendous monstrosity of gaudy tat and I love it. The kids decorate it so it’s got every craft item from preschool to present day on it, along with our Christmas stingray, Christmas Turtle and Mexican hat (live in Caribbean).

I’m not sure I can be arsed with a coordinated tree, not matter how much I’d like to.

FrangipaniBlue · 18/12/2021 22:10

Co-ordinated Glory.

Theory thing that makes my teeth itch more than mismatched decorations are lights that run in rows.

butterflyfox · 18/12/2021 22:11

Both. One elegant and coordinated and one full of colour and the er…Unique decorations the children bring home from school. It’s a game changer to have two trees.

Justcannotbearsed · 18/12/2021 22:17

@FlatterNow

Oh goodness so much shite on our tree.
This, if I’m perfectly honest! Grin

My tree is Christmas tree themed. I have decorations which belonged to my grandparents, parents and which we have collected over the years. It isn’t mismatched though, none of them are random colours like shocking pink or electric blue. The fairy has seen better days.

KurtWildesChristmasNamechange · 18/12/2021 22:19

Mismatched. I started out with red and white but over the years we've added all sorts of things from icicles to plastic candy canes and this year some beady eyed felt sprouts in Santa hats. White lights though because I have a black tree and colourful ones don't look right.

CharSiu · 18/12/2021 22:27

We have a really lovely all matching tree with hand blown glass baubles. We also have a tree in the dining room that is all a bit mismatched. The decorations made by DS are on a garland run through the bannisters up the stairs along with multi coloured lights.

anne2650 · 18/12/2021 22:28

Ours is full of memories

GTAlogic · 18/12/2021 22:28

The tree in the living room has silver, gold, red and black baubles along with a couple of knitted ones.

The tree in the dining room is black with silver baubles along with all the Christmas decs the dc have made over the years.

I love both.
