It’s really cute. I love the name, haven’t heard it on a real person I don’t think just on baby boards and films.

If you can bear watching him in the clip linked to you will hear him pronounce it. It's Rome-y.

It’s pronounced like Rommy. Why would you expect Johnson to get this one thing right?

She's his child. He can have it pronounced how he likes. Or are we now all to be dictated to on how we should say our children's names? 😏

I'm sure Mynameis25 will appreciate your sentiments. 🙄

I'm sure she couldn't give a shit what I think.

But if you think she'd be offended, why @ her in the message? That's just nasty.

Lovely name, as is Rosemary, which it's a nickname for.

I know three Romys of different ages.

Seemslikeagoodidea · 18/12/2021 02:53

I like the name. I clicked on the link and the photo is very cute. In the article it mentioned that the baby has "Charlotte" as a middle name, after Boris' late mother, which is a nice touch.

I'm not a fan of Boris, but I don't hate him either, and considering that his mother only died 3 months ago he is probably still grieving for her. Whatever the rights and wrongs of his behaviour, the stress of being PM during a pandemic, then losing his mother, has probably taken its toll on him. I hope Boris will finally settle down now, and commit to this family.

You may have noticed there are several people on this thread commenting on the correct pronunciation, not just me Hmm

very888 · 18/12/2021 08:33

They can pronounce it however they like to be fair. People really get their knickers in a twist about this kind of stuff.

madisonbridges · 18/12/2021 08:33

@Warmduscher There is no correct pronunciation, just alternatives. Posters said how they had heard the name pronounced - which indeed varied between posters. You commented that he was wrong in his pronunciation of his own child's name. As he has given the name, he can have it pronounced as he likes, which happens to be how many posters pronounce it, especially if it's short for Rosemary. This name is no different from Sara, where it can be pronounced two ways. No one criticises the parent for pronouncing it either way.

@madisonbridges

I couldn’t care less how he pronounces their children’s names. I mentioned my friend and her child as it’s different from the Johnsons.

You seem to have a sense of humour failure - my comment about him not getting her name right was to do with the fact that Boris Johnson is unable to get anything right.

madisonbridges · 18/12/2021 09:39

@Warmduscher. Yeah, I got your "joke". Except he did get something right. He got the name of his own child right.

Yes and we must appreciate small victories.

Round of applause for Bozza on Thursday? He's finally got something right!
