Finally. We can say it.

I've just utterly broken down for Arthur.

@EsmaCannonball

The funding for social services could be tripled but that wouldn't change the core problem of its ethos being all wrong. It's all about the parents and keeping families together and not about the best interests of the child. I know so many teachers who've repeatedly reported child abuse but nothing ever happens because the social workers talk to the parents first and take their word for it. I know people who've worked in children's homes where the children are scared stiff of contact with their parents but are forced into it by social workers who tell them they have to maintain the relationship. I know medical professionals who've had to watch newborns go home with junkies and alcoholics and violent career criminals because the baby might be that person's second (or third or fourth or fifth) chance in life (never mind that the baby is doomed). You can throw all the money in the world at social services but until they start putting children before adults or family cohesion, and are prepared to remove children before the damage is done, then nothing will change.
Absolutely this. Until the best interests of the children are made a priority rather than the 'rights' of the parents, horrors like this will never end.

Just reading about the Daniel Pelka case, it's quite similar to this one, with the punishments and salt poisoning etc, in this case it was his stepfather rather than stepmother that instigated it all. Also Coventry. £10k was raised for the NSPCC as people were so outraged at the missed opportunities to save him and it's happened again and it will keep on happening.

Frezia · 02/12/2021 23:08

There are no words. I lit a candle for Arthur tonight, I don't know what else to do. I've given up on religion but I so want to believe he is finally happy and loved wherever he is. I'm devastated for him. There are no words.

lollipoprainbow · 02/12/2021 23:09

@Onthedunes spot on !!

Cmsadvice · 02/12/2021 23:10

ET pretty much sealed her own fate in all of this. The body cam footage shows her feeling sympathy only for herself. Blaming Arthur for everything and anything. He battered his dad? He head butted her? Poor Arthur must have been only a couple of stones.

Honestly watching that body cam footage has made my blood boil. Normal people with normal responses would be asking is he okay, will he survive etc. And obviously be grief-stricken. Even if you didn't know the child in question you'd be upset to the core having witnessed severe head injury to a child. But to show no ounce of emotion about your own child/stepchild? ET and TH set themselves up. Bet they thought they were so clever as well.

Apparently ET went missing 3 years ago but was found again. Wonder what that was in relation to.

lollipoprainbow · 02/12/2021 23:11

Surely lack of funding would have meant there was no social worker available to visit Arthur? The fact that they did and couldn't see anything wrong is inexcusable

Cassimin · 02/12/2021 23:11

I’ve just seen this on the news. Words can’t describe how horrific this is.
I’m a foster carer and to be honest it was an incident waiting to happen.
We have had the same child with us for 10 years, in this time we have had 23 changes of social worker between us. Just this week I have been issued a news one.
We go on courses and they trainers spout about how important it is to share information, always talking about the failures around Victoria climbe and baby p yet this week I’ve had phone discussions with my child’s dr who prescribes his medication, they asked me various questions they should know the answers to. He asked if my child had his weight, heigh, blood pressure taken recently. I said yes, by the school nurse. He said they don’t have access to that info- they both work for the nhs.
Professionals make all the right noises and make sure all the relevant boxes are ticked but the children are losing out.

Cmsadvice · 02/12/2021 23:11

I'm not religious but I did say a prayer for Arthur tonight.

lollipoprainbow · 02/12/2021 23:12

Arthur's dad's body language in that body cam video was very telling. He looked nervous as hell.

Hearwego · 02/12/2021 23:12

I’m sure someone will come out with the old cliche “lesson will be learned”.

Really? Like baby Peter, Victoria Climbie and Daniel Pelka? What lessons we’re learned from those poor souls?

lllllllllll · 02/12/2021 23:13

Wouldn’t it be ironic if she were to end up as cellmates with the biological mother.

The chances of that happening are absolutely zero (unfortunately).

An MP for Solihull(?) Has already used those exact words.

FFS. How dare they trot out that meaningless crap.

BeaLola · 02/12/2021 23:19

RIP little Arthur

I hope the 2 responsible suffer unimaginable pain like they subjected that poor innocent boy to-pure evil

Blue4YOU · 02/12/2021 23:19

I was sexually abused at about age 11-13 by a family member. I can promise that I have and never would abuse anyone.
I have a seriously disabled DD and adore her.
I wish I could protect all children.
My DH was also sexually abused by a teacher.
He is now a counsellor specialising in children living in care (who have done all sorts of things and/or have beer known love).
Please would the people who think childhood abuse leads to crimes as disgusting as these creatures have inflicted on that poor child is automatically related to abuse please fucking stop that shit.

Blue4YOU · 02/12/2021 23:20

Beer? Sorry meant never

Mufasa1118 · 02/12/2021 23:20

Let's all try to be a bit nicer to children.

A little bit more respectful.

lllllllllll · 02/12/2021 23:21

@Blue4YOU well said. There are no excuses for how that poor boy was treated. None.

icelolly12 · 02/12/2021 23:22

If social workers took children away from their parents every time they had an unexplainable bruise, there'd be uproar and there simply aren't enough foster carers available for this, plus the majority of children want to stay with their biological parents as it's all they know.

Maybe we need more people who are willing to step in when they see something wrong and challenge the behaviour directly. When I was in an Indonesian village I was told that if anybody in the community is a rapist or child abuser, they don't bother with the police or anything, the local people get together and find, attack, torture and kill the person. At the time I thought it was barbaric, but a part of me wishes that the evil pair had the fear of that happening to them.

Blue4YOU · 02/12/2021 23:24

Also @Bluntness100 - I wish that too!! The cruel, cruel bastards.

bubblesbubbles11 · 02/12/2021 23:25

coatofsomanycolours

thank goodness for all you have done for the children in your care.

SammyScrounge · 02/12/2021 23:26

@FolornLawn

The news articles don’t mention the mother, is she on the scene?
She's in prison for murder.
PleaseGoDontGoAgain · 02/12/2021 23:27
@PleaseGoDontGoAgain yes but social services were called , reporting bruises on Arthur while he was in Emma Tustin's care. So she can't have seemed like the nice one.

I'm just saying if social services were called reporting bruises on Arthur's back, and then SS do a quick check and see that:
She had two children taken off her,
Also had bad mental health issues,

They should have removed Arthur from her.

Yes his bio mum was also not an option but that doesn't mean he has to stay with his dad either.

Arthur should have been put into a foster home
I hateSW with a passion, but I understand the work. I have 2 boys ADHD,ASD and I fled DV when they were small and they suffered as a result.

It showed itself in them attacking each other, they were brusing each other.

It would have made sense that a little boy from that environment would be lashing out

They SHOULD have given Arthur to the Grandparents as there was NO history of abuse there. There was a history of witnessing DV between TH and OLH

A kid with behavioural issues in foster care is NOT more likely to be fixed but is more likely to be moved frequently and have a shitty life

The people who killed him are responsible.

kissmelittleass · 02/12/2021 23:28

I couldn't watch it all on the news the video was too much for me I nearly got sick, it had really affected me this evening I can't stop thinking about the poor little boy and how he suffered.
I hope that those evil scum bags suffer every second of every day and never sleep again and it still wouldn't be enough I hope they rot.
Rest in peace beautiful boy I'm so very sorry for what you went through xxx

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 02/12/2021 23:32

In the body cam footage TH and ET are clearly distracted by something that is going on on the street that isn’t visible on camera. TH even walks off as if to investigate/interact with whatever it is.

Does anyone know how long after the attack this was? I wondered if it was when Arthur was being put in the ambulance but then other comments have suggested he was already in hospital when that footage was being recorded so I wonder what was holding their attention so much on the street when the police were trying to ask them what happened. Surely if that was your child you would be at the hospital with him? Why was TH still at the house?
