I don't like to see tarantulas used in movies because they're always used to look scary and we're not scary. It's pure misrepresentation and it makes me cross.

My favourite movie is Charlotte's Web, but I've never read the book. I like the Nanny McPhee movies as well.

I love this thread. Albie you are very cute. Thank you for sharing the interesting facts. I used to be terrified of spiders but was lucky enough to hold one of your cousins once and she (Rosie) ran right up my arm so I realised you're probably much more frightened of us humans than we are of you.

I think you are absolutely stunning and I would like to have one of your relatives in my home too. Only I'm not sure I would want to hold them in my hand. I could do all the other things your mum does including paintbrush tickling. Would this be ok if I had a tarantula but didn't pick them up? It kinda seems like you don't like being picked up so much anyway?

@makelovenotpetrol - within the hobby is not recommended to handle your pet tarantula(s) there are some new worlds which are considered the most docile and tolerate being handled but it’s believed that they do not actually like it and it causes stress, nearly all of them have the ability to kick hairs which can be uncomfortable to us.

So having a pet and not handling it is perfectly fine

Albie just wanted to say hi and you are very lovely indeed.

I'd like to tell you that I love your house spider cousins as they make great low maintenance pets, they sort themselves out and don't mind if I chat to them. There's one cheeky one that abseils down from the ceiling when I'm on the loo!

I agree. I have a better understanding and appreciation of spiders now.

I am very much a live and let live person - I never kills spiders in my house and am delighted to see them in my garden - and this thread makes me happy.

I agree! Albie manages to be both informative and funny.

Before, if I encountered a tarantula I would have room screaming from the room. Now, I would be happy to watch them. Except for the unpleasant Orange Baboon variety. I think I would give visiting them a miss.
