The fact that some doctors, teachers, police etc look about 12. Then I realise they actually don't look 12, they just um, look younger than I do and I'm forgetting that I'm not 19.

@fudgecat

Handles to wind the windows in cars 😁
My car has those for the rear windows! And it's only a 2014 model :)
IncessantNameChanger · 09/11/2021 16:14

My eldest turns 18 tomorrow

Seeing my old college mates and thinking they look older. I still think of them as 16

Seeing my mum shuffling about.

Looking in the mirror and seeing my dad 😫

Yy to 90s being considered retro. C'mon man, it was like last year! My friends have just been on a back to 2000s weekend - what do you mean back to? Isn't that NOW? Then I remember that my nephew was born in 1999 and is nearly 23 🤯.

BusySittingDown · 09/11/2021 16:17

Oh yes, seeing someone from school that I haven't seen since school and thinking "ooh no, it can't possibly be them as they look almost middle aged...oh!"

Oh that's depressing! Back to the 2000's.. dear god..

When my 18yr old says "mum do you know this song?" And it's something by the cure or the smiths or whoever and I say "yes dear I remember when it came out"

I was on an easyJet flight a few years ago and the cabin crew did their spiel where they name all the crew. The captain was Max Somebody and I inwardly panicked thinking 'how could someone named Max be old enough to be a pilot??' Right enough, when all the passengers were disembarking, 'Max' appeared and he did look like a teenager ShockGrin

Having to explain to my children what a phonebox was for ("Why didn't people just use mobiles?"), what a milk float was, that we didn't have streaming TV when we were kids, and that we didn't do ICT at primary school.

fussychica · 09/11/2021 16:50

Looking in the mirror
DS will be 29 this week and I was no spring chicken when he was born
Watching the Hit List and not knowing half the tracks

Wobblysausage · 09/11/2021 16:55

Dd asking me if it was all black and white back in the olden days when I was a child… in the 90s

SpeckyWithTheGoodHair · 09/11/2021 16:56

I have colleagues that were born when I started Uni.

PickupaPenguin8 · 09/11/2021 16:59

Haha! I can identify with nearly all of these.

ForsythiaInBloom · 09/11/2021 17:04

I heard something on the radio phone in the other day that made me think “WHAT TAF? I’m sooo old!” Shock

They wanted Beyoncé’s “Crazy Right Now” played for their daughter going away to Uni….because it was No1 when she was born.

No, no, no!! It’s only been a couple of years since that was in the charts!!!

Nobranothanks · 09/11/2021 17:04

Definitely agreeing with these.

A led zeppelin album celebrated its 50th birthday recently.... I nearly fell over!

"30 years ago" immediately think of 1970's...... I then realise that it was 1991 and almost fall over.

Talking to niece the other day about her uni town and mentioning that I used to love the clubs there, when she asked me which ones I had this horrible realisation that I was clubbing there the year she was born 🙈

MedusasBadHairDay · 09/11/2021 17:04

Yep had that one, also had DS ask what I did during WWII Hmm I was born in the 80's!!
BusySittingDown · 09/11/2021 17:09

@MedusasBadHairDay, I haven't had that myself but I would deserve it. I used to ask my mum what it was like in Victorian times 😂. I was obsessed with the musical Oliver when I was little.

MissMarplesGoddaughter · 09/11/2021 17:10

Having to use hand signals as part of my driving test

Saucery · 09/11/2021 17:11

When Withnail says “Look at me, I’m 30 in a month!”. Withnail has always been older than me Shock

GoodnightGrandma · 09/11/2021 17:12

When I realised that the babies I had delivered would be having babies of their own 🥴

user1471538283 · 09/11/2021 17:14

The tiredness! I used to be able to shop all day and go out all night. Or finish a heavy week off work with going out clubbing. We often didnt leave the house until 9pm
Now I'm usually exhausted and more exhausted after tea. I'm ready for a book and bed by 9pm.

For me to go out conditions have to be exactly right because I hate the cold, I no longer like the dark and I hate rain.

I judge whether or not I can get on the floor and back up again. I usually cannot. I used to sit on the floor to watch tv.

tillytoodles1 · 09/11/2021 17:18

My two adult children both turning 40. Also, reading the news and seeing something about a person in their mid '60,s and thinking i dont look that old! They usually describe them as pensioners.

RaisinFlapjack · 09/11/2021 17:23

A while back 6 music did a special celebrating 25 years since ‘Definitely Maybe’ was released. Like, a quarter of a century?!

I said to DH that “Oasis is to our kids like the Beatles were to us”. Then realised we had the maths wrong and Oasis is to our kids like Elvis was to us.

I don’t understand TikTok.

KurtWilde · 09/11/2021 17:29

@ratspeaker

When I heard someone saying" did you know the guy who wrote Umbrella Academy used to be in a band"?
Haha my DD has recently started watching this and I said oh, yes, that was written by Gerard Way from My Chemical Romance. And she said 'that old band you listen to?' Confused

Realising that I went to see STEPS when they first toured and now they've been on the go for nearly 25 years Shock

Newbabynewhouse · 09/11/2021 17:30

Thinking back to when i was a child and my dad had a pager and a mobile phone luke a hiuse brick with an aerial. A screen just big enough to see the number typed in and a short message. Cost about 50p to send the text and we had no internet. Also seeing grey hairs poking out the top of my head and being excited to buy things like lamps and cushions!
