The lights that people are seeing up already are likely to be for Diwali, as a pp mentioned. It's lovely to see them!

foxgoosefinch · 04/11/2021 18:27

Normally around mid December as I’m usually too busy with work to get a tree before then. This year DD has requested early decorations, so I might go for around the 1st or even the weekend before. Wi try to get a tree a bit earlier this year, I think!

bedbathandbeyond · 04/11/2021 18:27

My Norway spruce will be delivered on 1st December, and that'll need a good couple of days to settle in the garden so probably the first weekend in December. 🎄

Second Weekend in December and down about the 27th when the tree droops

foxgoosefinch · 04/11/2021 18:28

Oh and we take down on Twelfth night.

kitcat15 · 04/11/2021 18:28

1st weekend in December.... they come down 30th December at the latest....I like a nice clean clear house for new year

Peridot1 · 04/11/2021 18:29

@Hohoholymoley

End of November usually the night before the toy show.
I can guess where you live. My sisters in Ireland usually do that too.

The ones I saw had a flashing snowman, santa boots by the upstairs window and a HUGE 'Merry Christmas!' Banner above the front door....

About a week before Christmas. Just looked at the calendar - will be 18th Dec this year. They come down on 12th night. I like my Christmas traditional unlike the poster immediately before me.

Definitely not Diwali like you say, there is Santa and a snow man hanging on their front door as well as all the lights 🤦🏻
A580Hojas · 04/11/2021 18:33

Fast moving thread! I was referring to kitkat's post.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 04/11/2021 18:34

Small real tree with lights goes outside the front door on 1st Dec.

Indoor tree will be 6th Dec this year, earlier than usual because family coming to stay on the 7th.

Other decs., wreath on door, same time.

Christmas cards are blutacked to painted surfaces as they arrive.

Nothing comes down until 6th Jan - January is dreary enough anyway - though might be 5th this time since youngest Gdc’s birthday is the 6th.

Gnr24 · 04/11/2021 18:34

Usually last week in November but I'm already fed up of the dark evenings, I'm thinking 20th Nov 🎄

ItsSunnyOutside · 04/11/2021 18:37

3rd week of November usually. Love it!

Sonata13 · 04/11/2021 18:38

I put them up in October! Wanted a jolly atmosphere for my mother's birthday. It's cheered up no end!

MrsFin · 04/11/2021 18:38

Traditionally, the Saturday before Christmas, though I usually relent under pressure a few days earlier.
"December" and "Christmas" are not synonymous.

Helpimfalling · 04/11/2021 18:38

Never before the 1st December.

Use to be just 12 days before Xmas but in the past few years anything in December is fair game.

It also comes down in December too.

Helpimfalling · 04/11/2021 18:40

@rslsys

After lunch on Christmas Eve and down again after breakfast on Boxing Day. Bah Humbug 🎅🏻
Please don't tell me you store it in the loft and all that ....for well that
Lanique · 04/11/2021 18:40

Second weekend in December. I want the tree to last, and to still appreciate the novelty come Christmas Day.

Chunkymenrock · 04/11/2021 18:41

2nd weekend in December.

KevinTheKoala · 04/11/2021 18:43

DDs birthday is on the 12th so we put ours up on the 13th

grapewine · 04/11/2021 18:44

Anytime during the first week of December.

TaraLewis · 04/11/2021 18:48

12th night is in January @TheLovleyChebbyMcGee

supadupapupascupa · 04/11/2021 18:50

1st dec or soon after. And down on 6th Jan or just before

SprayedWithDettol · 04/11/2021 18:53

Around 20th December. Any sooner and they lose their special sparkle by Christmas Eve.
