Most terrifying Dr Who monster?

As a child it was the cybermen, I think because they looked sort of human, as an adult it's those bloody weeping angels, looks like they are making a reappearance in this series

Weeping angels. Always the weeping angels.

Jon Pertwee and the giant maggots!
I was about 8 years old and they were the stuff of nightmares. Still watched it though!
Loved Jon Pertwee and saw him live at Wimbledon Theatre many years ago.

Was that The Ark in Space? I had nightmares about that for weeks.

Wasn’t that the Green Death in the mines in South Wales with Jo Grant?

fastgin · 31/10/2021 21:04

Old cybermen. I used to hide behind the sofa when they came on.

Still give me the heebeegeebies thinking about them.

It was the weeping angels. But then they ruined it by bringing them back again and again.
If they'd just left it at the one episode it would have been better.

scarevola · 31/10/2021 21:25

Cybermen

The Horders in The Green Death

Weeping Angels (but only in Blink, I think they became less scary in the reprises)

scarevola · 31/10/2021 21:26

Oh, and DC2's scariest was Midnight - the one where there wasn't really a monster at all

ApplesinmyPocket · 31/10/2021 22:06

@BonteGracieuse

The old Cybermen were much more terrifying than the big stompy ones they have now.

But I have to agree that the Weeping Angels are pretty scary!

Totally agree with this. I was terrified for years after seeing Tomb of the Cybermen when I was young (am ancient now). The big stompy ones are not so scary, though I do find their faces very chilling - as a PP said, it's because they're human-ISH isn't it.

Same way as I find horror films with human ghosts frightening, but am unmoved by giant sea monsters/animals etc.

@Ilikewinter

1000% weeping angels, blooming terrifying!!
I'll raise you BABY weeping angels! Those guys were freaky!
Rubyupbeat · 31/10/2021 22:21

As a child, the cybermen, followed by the daleks, although I worked out I could escape from the daleks by going upstairs, now the bloody things can float!!

Rubyupbeat · 31/10/2021 22:22

Nowadays the weeping Angel's, you would stand no chance!

midsomermurderess · 31/10/2021 22:48

The giant maggots for me too. Bloody hell, completely terrifyingly creepy. 'The Brigadier' was in it then.

ALongHardWinter · 31/10/2021 22:52

The Sea Devils. Omg they scared the hell out of me.

PhilODox · 31/10/2021 23:02

Shock @BathshebaKnickerStickers That's the Jagaroth!
I was about to list him!
And The Creature From The Pit (which was basically two actors bent double under a duvet...

PhilODox · 31/10/2021 23:05

But yes Blink is the most terrifying episode ever.

Viviennemary · 31/10/2021 23:05

I thought the Daleks were pretty feeble. Those daft voices. Cybermen now they were creepy.

iklboogiemaninthecloset · 31/10/2021 23:14

Mine was The Stones of Blood as a kid. Later on The Weeping Angels.

iklboogiemaninthecloset · 31/10/2021 23:15

Oh and The Silence were pretty creepy too.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/10/2021 23:15

The hand of fear. I had so many nightmares. I was very little.

They were totally terrifying

Even though we only had a black and white tv, you just knew they were neon Green.

OhYouBadBadKitten
YY - I can still remember that hand in the quarry - that had me behind the sofa in terror.

SammyScrounge · 31/10/2021 23:23

@Ihopeyourcakeisshit

Surely it has to be the Daleks?
Has to be, yes . My wee sister and I hid the behind the sofa the first time they came on!
timtam23 · 01/11/2021 00:13

Tom Baker as the Doctor, I think it was The Ark in Space, large larvae/creatures on a space ship that crawled around and sort of consumed/invaded humans. I had nightmares about it at the time.
The Daleks also used to terrify me, I would hide behind the sofa.

BabyBearRus · 01/11/2021 00:18

Yep same here. Really eerie.

BabyBearRus · 01/11/2021 00:19

Gas mask on child....are you my mummy? Really creepy and very sad

Newestname002 · 01/11/2021 02:35

I haven't watched Dr Who for a very long while so don't know some of the characters (eg The Silence) but do remember the weeping angels and thought they were terrifying. I caught the end of an episode last night and there they were - just as scary as I remembered- and FASTER! 🌹
