Nicest jam

Over the years I have spent a fortune on jams . I have an obsession with trying ever flavour I see . I can’t visit a fair , garden centre, farmers’ market without buying some ! I even have a jar of melon jam and a jar of apple and cinnamon .
At the moment I love plain and simple blackcurrant jam , mainly on scones and crumpets .
So , what’s your favourite jam ? Are different jams better on different things ?

Homemade jam. I never buy shop bought now. So tasteless
I'd like to place an order please for as many pots of Raspberry jam that you have plus 2 damson, 1 blackcurrant plus 2 marmalade fine cut please.

Any lemon curd?

cheers Grin

Beerenberg: Fig and Cinnamon Jam, Australian Apricot Jam, and their Caramelised Fig Jam.

Just had a box of these jams delivered to my Grandad (in his mid 90s), and he was thrilled!

You probably want conserve not jam. Bon Maman type or the slightly posh looking supermarket one if you don't want to pay artisan prices.

Less sugar and more fruit- it can't legally be called jam as there isn't enough sugar in it.

Conserve is generally just 50/50 fruit and sugar and it's likely there's not a huge difference between Aldi/Lidl 'mass market using the cheapest fruit we can get our hands on' and 'artisan hand made with heritage blackcurrants at five times the price' to be honest.

I suppose a blind tasting comparison would be interesting.

Cactus jam is amazing. Really light and refreshing, not too sweet. Otherwise, apricot jam or lemon curd.

jamandmarmalade · 24/10/2021 06:11

....plus 1 x rhubarb and ginger please @MrsDThomas

KissedintheDark · 24/10/2021 06:18

Damson jam.

revampneeded · 24/10/2021 07:34

2022 is going to be the year I restart jam making. Seville marmalade, apricot conserve with kernels in and strawberry conserve: both very chunky and as sour as possible. Question: has anyone made marmalade with Campari, and does it work?

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 24/10/2021 07:43

Rosehip is lovely, many Turkish shops carry it.

There are other lovely flavours there as well, figs and cherries and green walnut preserves.

I made some apricot and fig leaf this year, used a London borough of jam recipe.

The most unusual I have ever had was jasmine jam in France.

Philandbill · 24/10/2021 09:52

@revampneeded Question: has anyone made marmalade with Campari, and does it work? sadly no, but if you need a taste tester I'm the person Grin

MrsDThomas · 24/10/2021 11:02

Omg😂😂😂😂

Making jam is still easy. I mostly buy frozen raspberries as they are cheaper. But blackberry jam is my go to one. I have about 10k in the freezer.

I use BBC good food recipe. Buy a jam thermometer and use ordinary sugar. Never used pectin. Have a try!

Crosta & Mollica , St Dalfour , Bonne Maman .

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 24/10/2021 14:37

Aldi raspberry is lovely

Thymeout · 24/10/2021 16:50

Pp didn't like Bonne Maman strawberry conserve. Haven't tried that flavour but their apricot conserve is fantastic - and currently reduced in Tesco. I could eat it by the spoonful. Intense flavour and not too sweet.

Otherwise, it's home-made damson all the way, but I missed the right time to visit the Farm Shop this year.

NotMyCat · 27/10/2021 20:04

@Nonbio46

Sainsbury’s Hedgerow Conserve is my favourite at the minute.
Bought this today and it's so nice
NalPolishRemover · 27/10/2021 20:14

I hate blackcurrant jam

My favourite is raspberry & after much taste testing my favourite is aldi specially select. For me it's by far the best of the supermarket jams.

I also love marmalade but only on hot white well buttered toast

I like plum, gooseberry or rhubarb jam but they're harder to find these days.

One of my favourite bold treats is really fresh white bread with salted butter & raspberry jam. I could gorge on that!!

SirVixofVixHall · 27/10/2021 20:19

@Samanabanana

Chatsworth cherry brandy jam, it's incredible
Mmm. i like the sound of this.
