Inspired by my lunch, just tucking into a weight watchers chicken lasagne that is delicious..
I rarely eat ready meals but the weight watchers range is quite tasty.
Do you eat ready meals and how often?

Very rarely, haven’t found one I liked

Labloverrr · 22/10/2021 13:50

Charlie Bingham chilli con carne for 2 with some salad is a good time saver. M&S meals for when we know we’ll be extra busy for a few days.

NCForthisxox · 22/10/2021 13:52

All the time DD normally has her tea at after school club. I normally have m&s Waitrose or taste the difference from Sainsbury's , Charlie Bingham's I can only eat very little nowadays so I end up spending more on them I don't like the very cheap ones.

No never, I always find the portions are so small I'd end up having to buy sides to go with them which makes them expensive for the quality or I'd still have the faff of making sides myself.

Rubyupbeat · 22/10/2021 13:54

We have a cook one once a weekish. They have a nice variety.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 22/10/2021 13:55

Every couple of weeks we pick up one of those "curry in a box" meals from Tesco and dh and I share. But by the time we've added wine and a few extras like saag aloo, we might as well have just gone to the curry house.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 22/10/2021 13:57

No, the ones I've tried have all been rank.

babybunny123 · 22/10/2021 13:58

I love a Charlie Bingham now and again. The Cottage Pie and Lasagne are really nice.

Mayhemmumma · 22/10/2021 14:02

I do! I have cook pots for lunch 3 or 4 times a week at work - tasty and cheaper than the usual sandwich combo I'd end up buying

ASDFamily · 22/10/2021 14:03

I don't eat them if I can help it...........I haven't found any that I like and I find them very expensive. I looked at some high-end ones in the reduced section of Tesco recently and even at half price, I was shocked at the price!!
I cook in bulk and freeze so I have my own ready meals at hand!

MerryChristmasToYou · 22/10/2021 14:03

They generally taste the same, or the ones I''ve tried do

rosesarered321 · 22/10/2021 14:11

About once a month a waitrose curry, nicer than the takeaway and a lot cheaper and healthier.

elbea · 22/10/2021 14:23

We have a stash of Cook ones in the freezer for emergencies, we do like Charlie Binghams too, especially the carbonara and chilli

nordica · 22/10/2021 14:27

Maybe once or twice a week. I try to get nice ones, for example the Allplants vegan ones.

I live alone and sometimes I don't feel like cooking just for me, especially if it involves lots of ingredients so it would make a huge batch or I would end up with leftovers for days. Some home cooked food freezes fine but not everything so it's a good way to get some variety.

edwinbear · 22/10/2021 14:29

I spent about a year eating them 5 x 6 times a week. I was trying to lose weight and liked the fact I knew exactly how many calories I was eating, without having to weigh out how many grams of peas I was having etc. It worked, I lost 2 stone, but was very dull. Now I'm at my goal weight I eat them very, very rarely.

Whatwouldnanado · 22/10/2021 14:33

Occasionally get a lasagne from M&S, pizza too. My parents have Farm Foods delivered and they seem quite good. I buy locally made steak pies from the butchers if that counts.

Gonnagetgoing · 22/10/2021 14:33

I used to eat them when I couldn't be bothered to cook - e.g. Tescos Spag Bol or M&S Liver and Bacon, Shepherds Pie etc.

Now I cook them myself generally.

Mandofan · 22/10/2021 14:34

No, I think they’re mushy and always lack seasoning. My dp however ate them pretty much daily until we met

Gonnagetgoing · 22/10/2021 14:34

Pizza - freshly prepared in deli area from Sainsburys - yes - had a veggie one last night - but quite rare and only as I couldn't be bothered to cook.

ducksalive · 22/10/2021 14:35

I used to in the UK, sadly in the USA they hardly exist and those that do are horrible.

Gonnagetgoing · 22/10/2021 14:35

If by ready meals you mean stuff like ready prepared burgers (I like Strong Roots veggie burgers etc) then yes, as and when I like them.

Was eating Pukka Pies until I realised how calorific they are.

TuftyMarmoset · 22/10/2021 14:36

Rarely. The veggie offerings aren’t much good so it always seems like a waste of money and I might as well have had beans on toast. There is one peanut stew one I like and I do get ready made chilled or tinned soup sometimes.
DP sometimes gets curry ones because he is underweight and they are very calorific, good option for when he is working late.

Changethetoner · 22/10/2021 14:37

No. never. Too expensive, and over packaged and too little nutrients. And far far too high salt content. usually.

so, no I don't buy them or eat them. But do have the occasional frozen pizza, does that count?

afinethingindeed · 22/10/2021 14:38

We have Charlie Bigham ready meals most weekends. I love their lasagne and curries. We used to have a takeaway every weekend so this feels like an alright swap (cheaper and fewer calories).

bravelittlepenguin · 22/10/2021 14:39

We have the Cook veggie lasagne which is totally delicious plus some fresh veg maybe once a month. I also very occasionally buy a dine in for two or similar from M&S (had the chicken Kiev with truffled cauliflower and fresh green beans and broccoli this week which was gorgeous!)

Other than that, no. The cheapy ones from the supermarket never appeal to me and are high in salt, fat, sugar etc plus not particularly tasty so I'd rather have something quick but nicer like an easy pasta we've made ourselves than that.
