ADs and The Brave New World

When you kind of hope that a new thread meanders on quietly because it means that life is being fairly stable...

What are ADs?

Here's the copy and paste job...

Definition of AD
^AD stands for anti dementor.
There are creatures in Harry Potter called dementors, who suck all hope and happiness from you and eventually take your soul. Way back at the start of the pandemic thread after thread was posted on by posters like this and anyone who'd dare question anything or disagree with anything (like putting cheese in your coffee) was bullied off these threads. And so any actual discussion disappeared and it became an echo chamber of misery.^

We are the antidote to that. We follow the rules, but not the "roolz" and we question and discuss with respect to each other. It's all very civil.

In my work we now have to test before every shift (and send evidence) not just twice a week. I feel like the testing culture is just getting more insane. The amount of plastic waste we're generating with these tests is also really stressing me out.

@justasking111 What a lovely idea but Jesus christ you must've always been sick! Grin

110APiccadilly · 05/01/2022 19:52

@justasking111 I remember having those Secret Sevens (the ones with the boys and girls on the covers) when I was a child. Though ours had been acquired second hand - possibly by my aunt, who had an amazing eye for a charity shop bargain!

ISaySteadyOn · 05/01/2022 21:04

@justasking111, those are the Anne editions I checked out of the library in the summer! Smile

Taswama · 07/01/2022 08:14

NeedWineNow · 07/01/2022 08:51

@110APiccadilly what lovely news to start the New Year - congratulations!

110APiccadilly · 07/01/2022 09:53

Thanks all! Though I think I'd rather have a book than something sapphire. I got through so many books when DD was tiny, reading to stay awake during night feeds!

GreenPumpkins · 07/01/2022 20:50

Congratulations! @110APiccadilly that's such lovely news to start the year with!

Some people have really, genuinely lost their minds... www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-59919105.

Wow.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 08/01/2022 21:10

Congratulations to you 1110APiccadilly that's wonderful news! Works out at about a 2 year gap doesn't it, that's a nice spacing! Saw the news about that teacher yesterday. How awful. What I can't get my head around is most 13/14 year old boys are as big or more often bigger than their mums. So she is quite unlikely to have been able to physically overpower him, I certainly couldn't my 12 year old daughter. This means she was able to persuade him that this was the best possible course of action...emotional abuse at the very least. It's disgraceful. I hope he has a loving decent father or if not other family members who are able to care for him whilst his mother is so crazed with covid hysteria she has forgotten her duty to her son.

Fear creates irrational behaviours!

justasking111 · 09/01/2022 12:21

I am more hermit like now having dealt with the lockdowns twice. I am changed

Taswama · 09/01/2022 18:35

Interesting to see there is now talk / leaks of the end of free LFTs. I wonder how many other countries have had them throughout.

110APiccadilly · 10/01/2022 07:00

As long as the end of free testing coincides work the end of vaccine passports - I think it's atrocious that other countries have gone for a stealth tax on the unvaccinated by making them constantly pay for testing. It's mean, and dishonest - if you want to tax the unvaccinated, have the courage of your convictions and do it honestly, imo. I'll disagree with it either way, but it's better when you're up front about what you're doing. (A tax on the unvaccinated means only the wealthy can make their decision purely on medical grounds - that's clearly unfair.)

Taswama · 10/01/2022 08:35

Agreed Picadilly .

If they keep providing LFTs for social care, hospitals and schools I imagine there will be a resale market from some enterprising teenagers at least!
