ADs and The Brave New World

When you kind of hope that a new thread meanders on quietly because it means that life is being fairly stable...

What are ADs?

Here's the copy and paste job...

Definition of AD
^AD stands for anti dementor.
There are creatures in Harry Potter called dementors, who suck all hope and happiness from you and eventually take your soul. Way back at the start of the pandemic thread after thread was posted on by posters like this and anyone who'd dare question anything or disagree with anything (like putting cheese in your coffee) was bullied off these threads. And so any actual discussion disappeared and it became an echo chamber of misery.^

We are the antidote to that. We follow the rules, but not the "roolz" and we question and discuss with respect to each other. It's all very civil.

Yes, I add my thanks too. One of the few goods to come out of lockdowns for me was meeting such a lovely, compassionate, funny set of women from all over the country. You're all brilliant 🎉

Buzzinwithbez · 29/04/2022 08:47

Yes, two years since I sat on a secret contraband bench that the council had forgotten to remove or tape over and feel immense relief that there were other people out there who thought much of it was all madness.
Thankyou!

RoofFlower · 30/04/2022 16:37

Nice to see you all back again. I was a lurker but didn’t post, just enjoyed reading and identifying with a lot of your posts.
Thinking about going somewhere hot and lovely on holiday but the thought of all the requirements and the stress of it all is putting me off.
I really don’t understand all this vaccinated/unvaccinated bollocks. What difference does it make in the end? I’m triple vaccinated and still managed to catch covid and pass it on to others.

ISaySteadyOn · 30/04/2022 17:15

First, I am glad you posted. Always nice to see new people on the threads. I don't know about vaccination either. With people I know I am going with the old fashioned manner of not discussing politics or religion. I think, in an odd way, the vaccination thing falls into both categories.

LightandFruity · 01/05/2022 23:45

I’m another lurker and have been following for a while. Thanks for the voices of reason throughout all of this.

I can hardly believe what’s gone on over the past 2 years. All the guessing, lying and the impression of just making it up as you go along from the government. The over reaction of the public, egged on by the media. What have they done to us?

RoofFlower I am triple vaxed, had covid last year and still managed to catch it again and pass it on to Dh. At times I think what was the point in being vaccinated?

How does everyone feel about things now?

I could ramble on for hours but really just wanted to say I appreciate y’all.

Worldgonecrazy · 23/05/2022 13:17

Oh no, here we go again …..

media ramping up the fear …..NHS ‘updating’ their website….. posts predicting Armageddon….

ISaySteadyOn · 23/05/2022 13:41

Cos of the monkey pox thing? As I understand it, isn't it sexually transmitted?

toomuchlaundry · 23/05/2022 13:58

@ISaySteadyOn I think it is transmitted in a similar way to chicken pox, so close contact (doesn’t have to be sexual contact)

Worldgonecrazy · 23/05/2022 14:04

The ‘sexual’ contact mixed messages is probably because the epicentres of spread have been gay ‘saunas’ and other such places men meet for random sex with a lot of strangers. (I had a gay friend who never shit up about the sordid details). But any prolonged close contact, so family hugs, sharing a bed, etc. plus saliva etc.

The media have been whipping up a storm and then when an African disease is circulated via gay sex hook ups, acts all innocent about the racism and homophobia caused by their rhetoric.

AlviarinAesSedai · 23/05/2022 14:28

I would definitely not be leaving the house if I caught it. Vain me.
Definitely feels racist and homophonic to me.

ISaySteadyOn · 23/05/2022 14:44

Thanks for explaining, everyone. I am trying not to worry.

CruCru · 27/05/2022 07:12

Hello!

Nope, I am not even slightly worried about monkey pox.

RoofFlower · 27/05/2022 23:14

They can just sod off with the monkey pox fear mongering. I refuse to go through all that shite again!!

mmmmmmghturep · 29/05/2022 20:43

Me neither. They can fuck off

ISaySteadyOn · 02/07/2022 19:13

Any of you have children starting secondary school in September?

ISaySteadyOn · 02/07/2022 19:14

DD1 is. And I am proud and nervous both.😌

Yes, DS1 will be. He's got induction days coming up this week.
Annoyingly I've got Covid again so I'm hoping he stays clear and doesn't miss them. Surprisingly he's never tested positive before (third time it's been in the house since Christmas) so I'm hoping he's naturally resistant... I've told him not to get too snuggly, but I'm not locking him in his room and feeding him through a cat flap 😂

We had a real, proper Sports Day this week. That was great to have back.

GarlandaChynoweth · 02/07/2022 21:47

Yes, DS1. He's on his year 6 residential this weekend.

ISaySteadyOn · 03/07/2022 10:59

We had a proper Sports Day too. It was wonderful.

DD1 had her transition day on Friday as well as her Y6 leaving dance. She looked so beautiful and grown up. Her residential starts Monday.

How do you all feel about your DC going to secondary school?

GarlandaChynoweth · 12/07/2022 16:47

DS1 is starting to get a little sad about leaving primary school. He's not going to secondary with any of his current friends. He had his transition day last week and was really positive about it so it's a mix of excited and a bit sad for us.

GarlandaChynoweth · 12/07/2022 16:49

Anyone else read this yet?www.pinterandmartin.com/amp/the-childrens-inquiry

GarlandaChynoweth · 12/07/2022 16:49

I've bought it but not read it yet. I started it and felt quite emotional. Need to steel myself- it won't be easy reading

munchbunch12 · 12/07/2022 19:27

GarlandaChynoweth · 12/07/2022 16:49

I have it too but also haven't started it yet, I want to finish 'Material Girls' first! I agree it's going to be emotional, and will probably just resurrect the anger I felt during all the restrictions and lockdowns 😥

ISaySteadyOn · 12/07/2022 20:45

Is Material Girls Kathleen Stock's book?

I agree that the children's inquiry will be v emotional to read but I think that I had better do so anyway.

Yes it is! I discovered it after reading a thread on MN. It's taking me a while to read (it isn't my usual type of book) but I'm finding it really interesting so far. It's scary to think how a relatively small group who shout very loudly seem to be in control of so much, but I suppose we could say that about lots of different things.
