No surprise that the met have stopped. Their investigation into PA.

He is an arse, but the age of consent in this country is 16 and she was older, so he does not appear to have committed a crime under British law. What do you want the Met to do? I certainly think there are better things for them to be getting on with.
On every thread about Andrew this gets said.

The point is that Virginia Roberts Giuffre was trafficked.

Ghislaine Maxwell, good friend of Andrew, is finally up in court on trafficking charges next month in New York. She may well sing like a canary about the involvement of others, to reduce her sentence.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 11/10/2021 07:01

Why can't people just keep it in their trousers. What happened to decency and self respect.

Enko · 11/10/2021 07:06

Spindle

Whilst I agree that VR highly likely was trafficked. The reality is we can't and America can't judge on hear say. Its not as simple as she said so it must be true (or searching google)

I HOPE Ghislaine sings I really do. However unless they have some concrete proof from VR I cant see how they can convict PA at the moment its her word against his and whilst we may all believe her. We do need proof

So let's hope GM sings. If she doesn't i suspect PA will go clear like OJ did.

So if a 17 year old USA resident had consensual sex here, then is that legal if the age of consent at home is 18?

It's an age of consent for where you are?

(This is not a question about this case)

girlmom21 · 11/10/2021 07:09

@HouseOfFire of course it's legal. You abide by the laws of the country you're in.

orangejuicer · 11/10/2021 07:10

Laws apply where crimes are alleged to have been committed.

Geamhradh · 11/10/2021 07:11

@Pixxie7

I have got the information through google.
Jesus.
Aspiringmatriarch · 11/10/2021 07:12

Cressida Dick was at school with Ghislaine Maxwell, then at the same Oxford college. I don't think the Met were ever going to 'investigate' this too deeply.

I did wonder why they were going after him when she was 17 at the time, or am I missing something ?
sanityisamyth · 11/10/2021 07:16

@HouseOfFire

When I was at uni I had several American flatmates who were here for a semester or a year on exchange. Many of them came from states where the legal age to drink was 21. They thought it was amazing coming over to the UK as they could legally drink, even if it was then illegal when they got home again. I presume the principle applies to any aspect of law: it is legal in that country regardless of the origin of the person involved.

BordelDeMerde · 11/10/2021 07:18

@Pythonista Other countries are available

Eh, not so much now really. You (collectively) voted against that, remember? Grin

rwalker · 11/10/2021 07:24

Sums it up really when people think you can build a case off google.

Really? Thats interesting Mind you Cressida Dick is hanging on by the skin of teeth at the moment.
Isabellabasil · 11/10/2021 07:30

@Pythonista other countries are available yes, but if everyone who is unhappy here since Brexit left, then there would be a big problem as most of them are the educated, public-spirited ones doing jobs like doctor, teacher etc...

andyoldlabour · 11/10/2021 07:31

They covered up for Saville (who had connections to royalty) for god knows how many years, so this one isn't going to come out in our lifetime.

Ricekake · 11/10/2021 07:32

What jurisdiction do the met have anyway, what were they investigating?

HalzTangz · 11/10/2021 07:34

@Theunamedcat

OK? Considering the current climate could it be they haven't actually found anything?

They know there will be a public outcry they will get other people in to investigate the investigation so its in there interests to find the smoking gun if there is one

Perhaps *as creepy as he is) he is...innocent?

Exactly this. He could actually be innocent.

Not that MNs will ever conceive that.

MNs like the kangaroo courts where they vote a verdict without knowing full facts and only knowing what they press decide to disclose

Learningtobeafeministagain · 11/10/2021 07:34

@lnsufficientFuns

You can do what the fuck you like if you’re part of “the institution” They’re all untouchable There is so little accountability or shame or consequence.

Nothing ever gets challenged unless you’re female and wish to discuss, protect, or defend your rights not to be raped or murdered or otherwise diminished.

This is why women keep being treated like we are.

It’s exhausting.

And it’s disgusting to use publicly funded civil servants to dodge being served like we saw with that ridiculous cat n mouse sitch in August.

Pretty much this.

Although it’s usually a male sense of entitlement - actually you only need to look at the Queen and look at her ‘close friendships’ with Dubai rulers etc wonder what the hell our country is doing. The ruling class is still alive and kicking in 2021 we have to bow and scrap to someone just because of who there are. Harry earning millions for having no team talent or nothing worth while to say - just surrounded by people who think he is wonderful for being Royal. Why haven’t their titles gone yet? Why do they still have huge lands and the Duchy of Cornwall etc ? It’s really awful and needs a clean sweep.

KatherineJaneway · 11/10/2021 07:35

What evidence is going to be around 20 years later. This is no surprise.

SpindleWhirl · 11/10/2021 07:36

@Ricekake

Goodness knows.

You'd hope it was the trafficking connection. Like I said before, things may come out in the Maxwell trial if she gets as far as testifying.

HalzTangz · 11/10/2021 07:36

It's terrible that she was trafficked, but still doesn't change that UK law age of consent is 16.

Unless Virginia said No then technically PA broke no law (unless he specifically ordered and paid for a woman from Ghislaine)

Roussette · 11/10/2021 07:37

As I understand it, the fact VG was classed as a minor, means she was still a minor over here. It's irrelevant what age over here is law.

Also, someone said...I wonder what the Met got from VG when they interviewed her.
They haven't. They've had no contact with her I read last night.

Of COURSE they will drop this, no surprise there.
But PA should not be complacent, VG is not giving up, quite rightly, for all trafficked young girls.

Roussette · 11/10/2021 07:40

HalzTangz*

Peregrina · 11/10/2021 07:41

PA at least won't be able to set foot in the USA, which I think will annoy him, if nothing else.

Roussette · 11/10/2021 07:42

unless he specifically ordered and paid for a woman from Ghislaine

No idea if he 'ordered' her or paid for her. She was a trafficked minor who was chosen by JE/GM as the right girl to have sex with PA.
