Looking for some good ideas for DD’s 21st birthday.

OP posts:

A gas cooker.

Chasingsquirrels · 08/10/2021 13:37

Washing machine from my mum & dad.

luckylavender · 08/10/2021 13:39

An Omega watch. But when DS was 21, there was nothing big he wanted so we took him to Vegas. It was epic.

I had a newborn so can't really remember, think it might have been a watch.

emmathedilemma · 08/10/2021 13:43

I can't remember!

KurtWilde · 08/10/2021 13:48

I had a newborn and spent it mostly crying and trying to get DD to feed as she wouldn't latch on. Don't recall any presents so i probably got a few quid in a card.

Echobelly · 08/10/2021 13:51

I got a lovely watch, worth a few hundred - probably not much good these days. I had it for nearly 20 years until the back came loose and I left it off for too long so the mechanisms were borked sadly. Not sure how much The Kids use them these days, though

MrsBerthaRochester · 08/10/2021 13:53

A gold bracelet even though I rarely wear jewelry. My mum knows this but she was in a mood with me. Would far rather have had cash. Sold the bracelet a few years ago.

DDiva · 08/10/2021 13:54

I got a really good quality luggage set. I still use it for every trip and it's still looking good.....

Cruiser11 · 08/10/2021 13:55

DDiva that’s the best present on the thread.

CurryLover55 · 08/10/2021 13:57

A pendant with a portrait of my dog - one of the best presents I’ve ever received.

TuftyMarmoset · 08/10/2021 14:11

One of those Thornton’s champagne bottle shaped chocolate things. I was living abroad and couldn’t take much stuff back with me.

MrsMcCluskeysCat · 08/10/2021 14:12

A diamond necklace (just a simple diamond on a white gold chain) which I still adore. I was given a budget and taken to the jewellers by my mum to pick it though as they wanted to make sure it was right (I had previously mentioned that if I was to get any piece of expensive jewellery that would be it)

ErrolTheDragon · 08/10/2021 14:14

A set of small Japanese bowls, each one different. I'm not sure how DM came up with that idea but they're very nice - unfortunately I've broken some of them. I use them for pot pourri or bits and bobs.

FindingMeno · 08/10/2021 14:18

Can't remember, but nothing fancy.

DazzleDrops · 08/10/2021 14:24

A Rolex Oyster wristwatch.
That was for my 21st and graduation combined gift. I never wear it now, but have always had it serviced. DD is expecting it for her 21st later this year (its worth more than a new one today. Crazy!)

rbe78 · 08/10/2021 14:35

A watch (that I chose with my parents) and six cases of champagne - big family parties aren't our thing, but I had a great house party at our student house that night!

peboh · 08/10/2021 14:39

A weekend trip to London, theatre tickets and afternoon tea. A watch, some books, a necklace, and then just little random bits. I doubt it all came to more than £500ish as I didn't want my mum to spend a ridiculous amount. I'd have been just as happy with a book, movie night and a takeaway if that was all she could gift.

MistyFrequencies · 08/10/2021 14:41

€1000.

Oh for clarity the budget was £800 and the lovely jeweller sold us a necklace that was in the window at £950 for £795!

A new cooker from my mum and dad 😂😂 a teddy bear that played happy birthday from dd.
I had a meal out with my mum and dad, siblings and dd and my best friend.

Afterwards, my mum and dad took dd who was 6 at the time home with them and I went to the pub with friends.

Pearbear · 08/10/2021 15:03

A clock and not a particularly nice one either, I gave it to a refuge family who had nothing for there first home as it held no sentimental value to me. Bought from the Coop department store in town which was my mums go to shop for everything. I’d have loved some nice jewellery.

castoroil · 08/10/2021 15:04

£210

JakeyRolling · 08/10/2021 15:08

A P45 from a shitty sales job.

My grandparents bought me a necklace that was not my taste at all. They guessed I didn't like it took me back and I swapped it for a bracelet that is among my favourite bits of jewellery.

80sMum · 08/10/2021 15:09

That's going back an awfully long way for me, but I do remember! DH bought me a camera and my parents treated us to a nice meal out in a pub.

For my own DCs' 21sts, we bought DS a watch and took DD for a weekend in Paris.
