Is it me or is the new Rod Stewart song a bit ‘off’?!

It’s called ‘One More Time’ and I keep hearing it on radio 2.

Every time I hear the lyrics I feel uncomfortable - maybe because it’s an old man clearly harassing a younger girl for sex ‘one last time’ until she relents!

Grim….or am I being daft?!!

It will be 🤷‍♀️
It's on the playlist.

Bluntness100 · 10/10/2021 10:18

It’s a shit song but I don’t really understand your thought process because he has female musicians dancers on there, you can’t really think he should have women knocking on eighty in there? He’s hardly acting like he wants to shag them in the video.

VoyageInTheDark · 10/10/2021 10:18

Just heard it on r2 too, it's so cheesy and cringy

VoyageInTheDark · 10/10/2021 10:18

Also do people use speed dial anymore?!

LubaLuca · 10/10/2021 10:23

Nobody needed new material from Rod Stewart, he peaked a long time ago. It's really not as bad as Sting's new song though - that is truly awful, and is on the R2 'play at least once per show' list.

Ginmakesitallok · 10/10/2021 10:28

"I’m not easily offended but this makes me grimace every time I hear it" - you don't listen to much music do you????

Bad song, but hardly offensive

gardeninggirl68 · 10/10/2021 10:50

All this fuss over a song!

It's nothing compared to some of the shite out there

gardeninggirl68 · 10/10/2021 10:52

Mumsnet trying to be 'woke' over everything is so cringey

Looking for hidden meanings. Trying to find something offensive in things men do/say

Blankspace4 · 10/10/2021 10:52

@Ginmakesitallok to the contrary, I listen to an awful lot of music!

@gardeninggirl68 I couldn’t be less ‘woke’ if I tried 🤣

Just think it’s a creepy song.

Agree

The video is the least offensive thing ever and he’s hardly prancing around like he wants to shag the backing musicians/dancers. If anything he’s acting chummy with them

There is nothing to suggest he wishes to shag young women at all in it. Much less the rather cringe video.

It’s just another typical rod song from do you think I’m sexy to hot legs, baby it’s cold outside, tonight’s the night etc.

But there is absolutely nothing to say this is “an old man harassing a young girl for sex until she relents”

Which is a horrible creepy interpretation.

MrsBungle · 10/10/2021 14:12

The lyrics don’t bother me but it’s a truly shit song.

Taoneusa · 10/10/2021 14:16

He just looks way too old to be singing this. He doesn’t have any conviction.

Looks absurd being followed by three overdressed grand daughters prancing about in black during an afternoon in the park.

Tripe!

WallaceinAnderland · 10/10/2021 14:37

I was totally shocked when I realised Cliff Richard's 'Living Doll' was a song about adbuction Shock

This is also my opinion. It’s dreadful. So is Sting’s shit new song. So so bad.

Rubbish.
Laiste · 10/10/2021 16:46

Why does he sound as if he's a country and western singer? He's a Londoner isn't he?

and ''speed dial''? Confused

WallaceinAnderland · 10/10/2021 16:52

Well what does 'lock her up in a trunk' mean then?

notacooldad · 10/10/2021 17:00

Well what does 'lock her up in a trunk' mean then?
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Read the lyrics!
He is amazed he has his perfect woman. He foesnt want her to run off with ' a big hunk'
I am confident it is meant figuratively rather than literally!

Take a look at her hair, it's real
And if you don't believe what I say, just feel
I'm gonna lock her up in a trunk
So no big hunk can steal her away from me

'Looks' too old... nasty ageist rubbish

What should a singer 'look' like then? Only for the young people?

Laiste · 11/10/2021 08:03

The 'looks too old' thing. (incidentally the same was being discussed about Madonna's recent TV appearance on a thread here yesterday. Or the day before. I'm on the fence about that one i must admit because of the cosmetic surgery point).

Genuinely asking myself: when is too old to be flashing your arse or singing a song about sex with a load of much younger people in attendance? Is there no limit? If so what is it for me?

Rod Stewart'll be 80 in 3 years. Is it ok as long as he's got all his marbles? Is it ok as long as he's not using a walking frame? OK as long as you can still recognise him or his voice?

MintyGreenDream · 11/10/2021 08:09

Heard this for the first time while i was in the dentists chair last week; not sure which was worse the procedure or the song.

Fluffypastelslippers · 11/10/2021 08:14

Slightly bemused that OP thinks this song is 'Rod Stewart' singing about his desires for these under 40s. Most artists become a character - they are not singing literally about themselves. This isn't an old man/young woman song, it's simply a song about a break up. You don't need to assign ages based on the artists real life age.
