HannibalHayeski · 04/10/2021 19:04

Someone on twitter reckons "Someone nuked the DNS A and AAA records for Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp!", whatever that means.

Twitter is being jolly amusing on the subject (esp Innocent Drinks).

Nanananani · 04/10/2021 19:06

Basically the their IP addresses and domains have been deleted

Nanananani · 04/10/2021 19:09

That was in response to @HannibalHayeski

bowchickawowwoww · 04/10/2021 19:11

That's shit! I brought some new underwear today, to show off my new hairstyle on Instagram

CobraChicken · 04/10/2021 19:16

That means, in technical terms, someone is taking the piss and that's a fake screenshot - shocker! (Their domain registration doesn't expire until 2030-03-30.)
RavensWig · 04/10/2021 19:16

Heatherjayne1972 · 04/10/2021 19:21

The conspiracy theorists are getting all excited
My friend just said ‘see I told you the internet would go down’
Yup

Nanananani · 04/10/2021 19:23

@bg21 yeah I should’ve added, that’s what it could mean if the screenshots were actually real

FlibbertyGiblets · 04/10/2021 19:24

dusts off AlpHorn

HettySunshine · 04/10/2021 19:25

I just had to make an actual telephone call.

I feel a bit grubby.

Siriisatwat · 04/10/2021 19:25
@Siriisatwat well hold on a sec. You're suggesting someone goes and gets chips... Without then checking into where they've gone to get the chips and then taking a photo of the chips and tagging where they got it ...
Ah, darn it. This is why I’ve only got 15 instagram followers. I’m obviously shit at this.

AdobeWanKenobi · 04/10/2021 19:30

Quote from the cyber guy at cloudflare:

Dane Knecht, Senior VP of web security firm Cloudflare, says the Facebook Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) routes, used by networks to deliver internet traffic, have been 'withdrawn from the internet.'

Cybersecurty expert, Kevin Beaumont, wrote on Twitter: 'This one looks like a pretty epic configuration error, Facebook basically don't exist on the internet right now. Even their authoritative name server ranges have been BGP withdrawn.'

DS tells me this basically means the roadmap by which your devices access FB etc has been deleted.

PickAChew · 04/10/2021 19:31

Somebody probably updated the firewall and buggered everything.

This sounds very much like some poor person is getting sacked…
