How do you know it's a cyber attack and the BBC doesn't know?

I knew Mumsnet would have the answer as to why Instagram and Facebook are down I moderate a site and it wasn't letting me do anything

Unless they've edited that article @Dobbyafreeelf it says that no reason for the outage has been given.

I think it’s obvious it is an attack though as it’s been down so long. Obviously not going to say yet. I rekon they are loosing thousands of pounds every 5 minutes too- ouch!!

No, and neither do any of the other numerous news reports which are all easily accessible to anyone with an internet connection/TV.

you’ll have to bin it and get chips, I’m afraid. There is little point if you don’t stand on the dining table for 15 mins before hand trying to get the best photo of your lamb chops.

There’s nothing to suggest ‘obviously’ it’s a cyber attack.

But yes it will be costing many thousands of every minute it is down. Just hope some poor soul hasn’t made a mistake on a change or something.

DD is very cross that I have allowed this to happen, that I don't know how to fix it or that I am unable to offer up any kind of time frame as to when it might be fixed.

@Siriisatwat well hold on a sec. You're suggesting someone goes and gets chips... Without then checking into where they've gone to get the chips and then taking a photo of the chips and tagging where they got it ...

Literally 30 minutes before it went down Ds1 signed up to WhatsApp! He’s a Fresher, arrived at university yesterday and the network signal is poor. He’s struggling to settle I think so needs a bit of support😫

Hopefully it won’t be for too long.

I know we all used to cope without internet and constant communication but with a teen who doesn’t like to chat too much, messaging is a good way for them to reach out and admit their worries.

Not really. They were all down a few months ago for several hours and it wasn't an attack.

Maybe it's to do with the Pandora stuff in the guardian today 😬
