I’m 40 and I don’t want to speak to people on the phone!

Are you one of those people that never answers the front door too? Grin I have never been afraid of having telephone conversations, had a nice hour chat to my sister yesterday. Very old school, clearly.

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 04/10/2021 19:32

Is because there aren't enough hgv drivers to drive the WhatsApps to your phones.

bloodywhitecat · 04/10/2021 19:32

DownDetector is a useful site, looks like Virgin and Vodafone have problems too

To be fair, I've never liked talking to people on the phone. A lot of people have anxiety around phone calls, it's quite common really. The age of email and texting was a blessing for me!

Facebook, Whatsapp and Instagram suffer outage

I hate Facebook. I hope that it never comes back.

I am wondering how addicts are coping without it.

Maybe people will have to 'shock horror' PHONE people instead.

U2HasTheEdge · 04/10/2021 19:35

Netflix has been a pain in the arse for me since yesterday afternoon. It doesn't always want to load.

user64323 · 04/10/2021 19:37

I thought it was my phone so I have freed up loads of storage space as it was full, checked my wifi provider, checked my mobile provider, then while logged on thought I'd finally end my contract I've been paying way over the odds for for months. Then I tried restarting my phone, twice. Then finally I wondered if there was something up with certain sites so decided to check Mumsnet and here we are. At least my phone now has lots of free storage and I've finally changed my expensive contract to sim only... A productive evening Blush.

RozHuntleysStump · 04/10/2021 19:38

Fed up of it now. I use Instagram on a night to drive traffic to my website. My son has gone berserk as well as he’s autistic and uses messenger to communicate.

What is the angst though? I suppose if you are expecting a difficult call or bad news then fair enough, but chatting to friends and family-that's nice.
Disclaimer-I spent many an hour sat on the stairs as a teen chatting to my friends that I'd just spent all day with, phoned my Granny every week, and every job I've ever had involved speaking to people on the phone. I don't think teenagers have to do it enough now. If you wanted to make an appointment/plans when I was young you had to pick the phone up.

julieca · 04/10/2021 19:40

I think it is people get out the habit of talking on the phone and if you don't do something, it can start to seem a big deal to do it again.

Sounds like the people with telephone phobia might have to face their fears. Shock The Speakmans will be out of a job.

EE is down too apparently..,..

So the Daily Fail says anyway….

brittleheadgirl · 04/10/2021 19:41

I have a group chat with my 3 best friends. It's normally around now we 'chat'
We've resorted to making a new group on iMessage Grin

Itawapuddytat · 04/10/2021 19:41

Hmm Most of my family lives abroad - no whatsapp and no facetime would make things rather pricey if we need to call each other only on the mobile phones Hmm

Elderflower14 · 04/10/2021 19:41

Finally now speaking to Wilf on Twitter messenger... He was nearly crying when he couldn't get hold of me.

Sparklingbrook Of course we can email each other - but we rather like the long chats on whatsapp or facetiming each other while cooking dinner or just pottering around the house/garden etc Oh well....

Lovemusic33 · 04/10/2021 19:45

I’m missing face book…

How am I going to know what Linda had for dinner? When will I be able to find out why Garry checked in at the local A&E? And how am I going to know how Jane is getting in with day 3 of covid isolation? 😢.

Hopefully it'll be back soon then, it's not been that long yet I suppose.
RedToothBrush · 04/10/2021 19:47

I don't like phone calls. I dislike the constant intrusion and rudeness of people surgically attached to facebook and whatsapp more.

julieca · 04/10/2021 19:47

@Sparklingbrook young people do not use email. I tried to email my nephew......silence. Quick WhatsUp and he is straight back to me.

WeepingWinnie · 04/10/2021 19:48

@GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat

It's breaking news on my Sky news app. Facebook apologise....
Breaking news Grin

I have none of these things, so would have thought it was completely and utterly non-news.

I don't think teenagers have to do it enough now. If you wanted to make an appointment/plans when I was young you had to pick the phone up.

When I was in debt (and not even that much, we were talking a couple of hundred per company) I would get exceedingly aggressive phonecalls and threats telling me bailifs were coming to take all my shit (of which I had bugger all except my phone and a shitty old TV anyway). They were aggressive enough to literally drive me to tears EVERY single time I answered them. I know of tons of people who had the same experience who now have massive phone anxiety as a result.

Debt collection dept/agencies are actually much nicer and way more supportive if you are struggling nowadays than they used to be, but the damage is well and truly done!
