Names that should come back

Inspired by the other thread, I was thinking today that Dawn is a name that is gentle and soothing - meaning and sound.

John, Peter and Paul - simple classic names.

Paul for me every time with Neil a close second. Had our surname been different one of our boys would have definitely been a Paul.
For girls Elizabeth, which has never really gone away and Jane and Hannah.

Honestly, some of these names are already my primary school - they’ve already started coming back…

"I think Linda is a pretty sounding name"

I agree - I've been thinking for years that this is due for a revival.

Squeakerfoot · 25/09/2021 22:00

I love Laura. Feels classic rather than dated to me.

Got a soft spot for Marjorie!

I had picked Georgina as a girls name but had boys who all funnily enough have the names mentioned here.

CormoranStrike · 25/09/2021 22:33

I also love Simon and Mark

Linda and Dawn were both considerations for our DC. I really love David for a boy but it doesn’t seem to be very popular these days

I think the names which come back from sixty years ago will be understated ones, like Helen, Brenda, Jean, Vivienne, not trying to be out there, but just merging in so you kind of get used to saying the name without the surprise.

We've had the Arabella/ Georgiana/ Luciana/ and more 'a's and Georgian feel, then ever felt possible.

We've done pretty Victorian servant names : Rosie/Polly/Mollie/Daisy

Then old-lady-pretty Edwardian names: Edie/Vera/Ada/ Agatha

And now we'll be into names which are simple and graceful and not sounding like they are trying to out do others in that theme.

Mrsfrumble · 25/09/2021 23:18

Richard, Simon, Philip, Stephen, Martin. All great. For girls: Jenny, Louise and Joanne.

Mrsfrumble · 25/09/2021 23:19

Also Alison, Amanda and Caroline. So pretty.

Maskless · 25/09/2021 23:50

Keziah.

justasking111 · 25/09/2021 23:56

Names from the Bible just became unpopular as did royalty names. Hopefully they'll have a renaissance

douliket · 26/09/2021 00:05

I think the names of the 80's are still too soon to bring back
The Michelle's and Laura's and Trisha's

Although I'm saying that, I much prefer these names to the American names from sitcoms on tv such as

Cooper
Cody
Hunter
Dash
Ace
Jupiter
Cash

All ridiculous really, takes away from a child's true personality i think when people are distracted by ridiculous names as you just can't see past them, please think twice, these names will never ever make a come back

Especially Boys,I love boys with a solid name, sometimes you can nearly pass a girl with an American or made up name but on little boys they sound like cartoon characters
