Do you tell your OH everything?

Just inspired by a recent thread - do you tell your OH everything? I know that's incredibly broad. My DP knows pretty much everything there is to know about me, and I'm very guilty of texting him sporadically throughout the day to tell him very menial things! I put that down to being a SAHM though.

I think he knows pretty much everything. I’ve certainly not kept anything from him. He even knows all my PIN numbers including the one to my online “password safe” so he has full access to my entire life should he so wish!

No way
He’s not interested sadly

Happylittlethoughts · 23/09/2021 15:00

Nope. Not everything about the past, present or future. I guess I'm not that type of person.

Houseofvelour · 23/09/2021 15:02

Yep, I tell him everything.

Obviously I'm not going to share the size/shape of my morning poop but anything important/feelings/things I've done that day will be shared.
He's the same with me. We're very open with each other.

Yep

He's my best friend and has a much more level head than me.

So very good at seeing the other side of things or talking me down when needed.

I grew up with an emotionally abusive dad who my mum and I could only talk about things he'd want to hear, or wouldn't get angry at (didn't leave much)

So 100% open communication and honesty is pretty much my #1 priority in our marriage. And I couldn't be happier with my DH and how he supports myself and DC and how happy we are.

Only time we're secretive is Christmas/Birthdays etc and even that's a struggle as I automatically want to tell him if I've seen something he'd love etc.

Sure more money and a bigger house would be nice but wouldn't swap it for what we have.

@TSSDNCOP

I draw a line at confidences that my friends share. He would not care nor benefit.
I hate when I’ve found out that friends have done this! One of my friends said “me and DP don’t have secrets”, well me and your DP do! But then when I was with my ex I found myself doing the same thing. I had to consciously stop myself from telling him things that were none of his business (and he was nosy so he did care!) because it was making me a hypocrite

I've said this cautionary tale before but a colleague was heartbroken that her ex had tracked down her friends boyfriend and told him all the stuff that colleague had told him. The information was sensitive and colleague had no need to tell boyfriend.

The ex didnt know colleagues friends , he didnt know her boyfriend but out of revenge for her sitting with him. He found the boyfriend and told him everything he knew.
It put her friend at serious risk as she was trying to leave the violent boyfriend and flee DV. There was serious consequences for pillow talk.
I asked her what made her tell her boyfriend that and she just said " well you tell tour partner everything dont you"
I asked would she be thrilled about her mates freely discussing her abortion from several years earlier with their latest partner and she was shocked to see it from that perspective.

Clearly this is an extreme case but somethings aren't yours to tell. It doesn't mean you are keeping a secret because it is not about you nor are deceiving or manipulating your partner for your own gain.

I don't remember every single detail of the day and report back to him because that would be boring, but anything funny or unusual I will tell him. I feel like I can talk to him about anything though and nothing is off limits, other than I suppose details of sex with past partners that we don't need or want to know about.
